Bruce is harder to read because there’s decades of lore, canon, and stuff that’s not in the main continuity. Many writers have different versions of him that some favorite—however, here goes.

thank you Wayne family adventures for giving me a rough idea on the ages of the bat family members, and not making Bruce go thru like five robins in 3 years:

dick: 25 since he became robin when he was 9

Jason: 20 because he became robin when he was 13

tim: 18 since according to google he became a robin when he was 14 (also I can't possibly be the only one who hates that Tim has been like 16 for God damn years right)

Stephanie: 19-ish, I'm not actually sure when she became robin, but I think she's 19 as I'm pretty sure she's one year older than Tim.

I have genuinely no idea how old Damian is supposed to be. some comics portray him looking like he's 12-14 (google says he's 14 now?), while others try to make him look around Jon's —who is 17 if I'm not mistaken— age. so I like to assume that he's 15-16 (mostly because I enjoy the idea of him being close in age to jon as I really miss their younger dynamic) as he looks around that age, but if Stephanie became robin 2 years ago and Damian became robin when he was 10 that would make him 12 rn, so I'm very unclear on his age. I think I'll just stick to thinking off him as 15-16 in current comics and 12 in Wayne family adventures.

I'm pretty sure duke is like 16-17 in current comics.

Cassandra —who is my favorite member of the batfamily next to Dick— is supposed to be around jasons age, so I think she's about 19-20

finally, we have Barbara (while I am aware that there are more batfamily members such as kate kane, Luke fox, jean Paul valley, harper row, etc. I know next to nothing about them so I'm ending the list here.), at some point she was 6 years older than dick, but I'm pretty sure that got retconned, and now some are saying she's the same age as dick. despite all the inconsistency, I think she's a little older than dick, and since he's 25, she would be about 26-27.

I want Duke included in batfam family fics. being the older sibling Damian needs, relatable yet guiding. Tim being ‘Dukes robin’ and having lots of respect for Tim yet he’d also steal his slice of pie. Duke and Jason hanging out, and Jason appreciating how he never tries to lecture him. Duke and dick matching vibes (or as much as they can) when on patrol and somewhat in the family, and both trying to make their brothers calm tf down. Bruce trying desperately to not fuck up with Duke like he did his other sons, only serving to confuse and slightly alarm Duke. Alfred and duke being the only ones with more then *1* braincell.

Heck yes! I agree that Duke needs to be included in more batfam fics (and especially as a more pivotal role). I personally try to add him a bit, but I fear I do not include him enough as a key member of the batfam.

Duke is hella important and should be treated as such. I'd love to see more fics with him pissing off GCPD for fun. Just chaos and pranks against GCPD, rogues, Batman, and the Batkids. Also, he should he allowed to punch (or kick) as many JL members as he pleases (Hal was just the first).

Duke and Dick having similar fashion ideas is a cute idea I've seen in the fandom. I would also just love to see more fanart of Duke rocking some fun outfits for galas (especially if the galas follow the AU of Gotham being super weird with their social norms). Duke being featured on magazine covers, being asked to model, and being interviewed would be cool fanwork ideas to play around with. I've seen so many of the other batboys and none with Duke as a magazine cover.

Here's my ideas on how Duke could interact with different batfam members. Feel free to reblog if you have ideas yourself or think the dynamic should be different.

I feel like Duke and Cass would get along really well as chaos gremlins who get away with their shenanigans. Messing with Commissioner Gordon is a favorite pass time of theirs. For some reason, even when presented with evidence, Bruce doesn't believe that Duke and Cass would do the things they get away with. It's both impressive and annoying to the other batkids.

Duke could have a weird relationship with Tim. On one hand, Tim is Duke's Robin. The cases he's solved, feats he's accomplished, and respect Gotham has for Tim's Robin in general (for being Batman's therapy kid) are unfathomable. On the other hand, he's seen Tim walk into the same wall four times within three minutes. They both share a love for riddles, but Tim can be an idiot at interpersonal relationships.

For Damian, Duke has seen how the world picks up kids and spits them out. He's seen kids lashing out, how they merely want to defend themselves, and how fantastic they are once you get to know them. He's been angry and spiteful at the world too. For Damian, Duke's hella impressed at the kid's heart despite all the shit he's been dealt. Duke would encourage chaos, talk with the kid about how different emotions have impacted Duke's actions and life, and is an overall supportive figure. They can often be seen doing both wild stunts and "common for their age group" activities for fun (although the game Sorry is banned because of them).

Jason and Duke would probably have a complicated relationship due to Red Hood's actions. Their similar childhoods (as far as economically and location based) would lead to jokes and shared customs that they chat with Steph about (such as Creepy Toe Joe or that specific gas station or the phrase they say as they passed that one pothole). Despite that, they have different viewpoints on Bruce and murder.

Duke is probably one of the more emotionally intelligent and communicative batfam members. If Alfred is the sassy version, Duke would get a good laugh out of those remarks and the astute observations.

Bruce and Duke angst could go hard. Bruce is trying so hard not to make his past mistakes. Duke and his perception of Bruce (he holds Bruce in high regard) and how that affects their relationship.

As far as Duke being in a "perceived to hate metas" family, that could either be hilarious or angst. I imagine people trying to intervene or "save" Duke from the Bats would be infuriating and sad to see.

Duke could also laugh at the batkids' superhero friends and how they, even as adults, are banned from entering Gotham. Duke is free to live in the manor and come and go as he pleases. Any of the batkid's meta friends have to be snuck into Gotham.

just finished watching batman vs the teenage mutant ninja turtles and tumblr you have failed me. WHERE IS THE CONTENT. i have so many feelings about this movie and they may be incoherent but here we go. bit of a longer post so i cut it here

first of all this is probably my new favorite piece of batman media i loved almost everything about this movie.

starting the movie off strong with my wife barbara gordon. she was so funny in this movie and i loved how much of her smarts and fighting skills were shown cause she can do it allll.

bruce was a little grumpy but when he eventually came around and listened to raph’s speech and agreed that they’re a family i was like 🥹🥹 this is the batman i wanna see.

mikey and alfred’s friendship 💗💗 would love to see alfred actually using mikey’s skateboard.

speaking of mikey I LAUGHED SO HARD THE ENTIRE TIME CAUSE OF HIM 😭😭 his entire vibe killed me lmfao. he was so unserious and i love that about him.

donnie came through as usual and him and babs being the smart duo who wear purple was very nice it made me smile. also it was very cute how often he hid in his shell.

raph was impulsive as usual but he also came through like always. i didn’t expect him to be the one to give the speech but i realized it was actually very fitting.

damian was a little whitewashed unfortunately but his very obviously going through puberty voice was adorable cause he kept trying to be intimidating but i couldn’t take him seriously. i thought he would mention that ra’s was his grandfather to the turtles as a shock factor but it didn’t bother me all that much. i liked his team up with raph bc they’re both secretly softies on the inside.

leo i love you sorry i don’t have a lot to say but keep being eldest daughter coded.

Reverse Robins: Joker Junior series by miyaji_08 i rec’d the second fic in this series over here for the timkon of it all, but the series—two parts, both complete—is also one of my absolute favorite reverse robins stories. it goes the joker junior!tim route, so heads up for A Lot of tim-centric trauma, but gives tim (and everyone else) so much healing, too. it also gets creative with the robin of it all, as in, the call sign for batman’s partner is different from the jump because dick wasn’t around to originate “robin” for it, which i always think is a fun extra detail. the batfam characters are great and the young justice crew is also great, so read for top-tier hurt and comfort and great characters and satisfying plot and tim and damian competing to see who is the most Tired big brother of the bunch.

blood of the covenant by envysparkler robins are angsty in any order, but man does this hit the angst sweet spot, which in turn makes the soft parts feel even softer. i genuinely can’t decide what my favorite dynamic is in this AU, between damian & tim (damian wracked with guilt, tim hurting and still wanting an older brother even if he’d never admit it) and tim & jason (no spoilers but chapter 4 especially lights my brain up like a supernova) and tim & dick (i think about the part where dick grayson [tiny, cheerful] uses tim [undead, annoyed] as a jungle gym like once a week).

Wing Beats in Reverse by firefright a longfic where jason gets kidnapped by the mysterious red hood, who turns out to be jason’s not-so-dead predecessor. the jason pov here is great, and i was so compelled by how this AU explored his place in the bat family, and how it managed the emotional fallout from the kidnapping. tim is also so interesting in this—it does something i love in a reverse robins concept, which is make tim’s motivations (and lazarus pit effects) less about anger/hurt/revenge and more about ice cold logic, about being the villain so the bats don’t have to/whether they want him to or not. plus some league of assassins trauma as a cherry on top. also, kon gets to show up for a bit. (as a fair warning—and spoilers ahead—the fic has a somewhat hopeful ending for tim, but doesn’t reach full reconciliation in the scope of the plot.)

i woke up so worried that the angels let go by circees a short but potent batkids age reversal au that’s also a grisha au, starring duke as the coveted sun summoner that damian is trying to deliver to safety without mentally adopting a new brother (damian fails on the second part). even with my limited memory of grisha lore i could tell a lot of thought was put into this au, and i have a feeling it would be even better if you are able to catch all the details. i also love that even in a fantasy world where some of the bat family have magical abilities, duke is still extra special—a great analogy to being a metahuman among the bats.

The 90s Are Back! by RedWritingHood saving the two silly ones for last to lighten the mood! in this one, red hood!tim gets de-aged to sixteen and meets all his new siblings. it’s like .01% angst and 99.99% shenanigans, and pretty much all the dialogue is super quotable but Dick holds out his hands like he's calming a bunch of wild animals. "Okay, I know everyone's real upsetti spaghetti right now, but I think we all just need to calm down." might take the cake.

Clowns Don’t Kill People by mademoisellePlume very short, very silly reverse robins brother shenanigans, in which tiny dick grayson isn’t scared of recovering joker junior!tim because dick, having been raised in the circus, doesn’t associate clowns with evil yet. the fic is fun (and a great palate cleanser if you need a break from the angst above), and the author’s note at the end made me fully laugh out loud.

anyways i was thinking about the fanon dynamic of dick no longer loving tim and while it's definitely incorrect on all levels, i am thinking about how if there is one thing that i am even a little bit intrigued by, it's the idea that dick waking up one day and no longer loving tim is actually a scenario that is probably one of the most emotionally devastating things that you could do to tim and i think there could be a potential for, like, a good and devastating type of angst in a scenario like this if you were really, really careful about it and don't just turn tim into a wet noodle who is oppressed by a made up scenario where no one loves or appreciates him.

i guess these are my two examples of how this could potentially work in my head that doesn't villify anyone:

one, dick gets cursed by a magic user who removes his love for and/or memories of tim for reasons. maybe it's someone they crossed in the past when they were nightwing and robin who's out to get revenge on them. so you get this scenario where dick does not love tim anymore due to magic shenanigans, and this is very, very hurtful for tim and tim gets to angst over his big brother not loving him. however tim is not a wet noodle, and when he's not angsting and trying not to take this too personally he's on a mission to figure out what is wrong with dick and why doesn't dick like him anymore. tim would of course, stop the magic user and bring real dick back and real dick is very relieved he has his love for tim back and feels terrible about the whole thing even though it's not his fault and tim is trying so hard to not take it personally, but it is an objectively shitty situation that would make anyone feel bad even if you know it's not personal. it's very hard and hurtful when your favorite big brother is treating you like a stranger even if it is not their fault! it would end with dick being super proud of tim for bringing back the real him and ending the curse and being like "i always know i can trust you to save me :) :)" (in a reversal from red robin--you're my brother tim, you'll always be there to help me or something). i also think this scenario you could do something really fun with tim and damian because they could begrudgingly team up because even damian is like "i don't like this stranger dick who doesn't care about tim, it's just not right" and when tim is angsting he could casually bring up the fun things that he and dick used to do together and damian is only trainsurfing with tim because tim is in a pathetic situation, not because he's actually enjoying this or anything, okay?

two, post-crisis dick and nu52 dick have switched places! now, someone may have had this idea before and i know very little about nu52 dynamics other than the fact that dick and tim were more like just coworkers than anything due to the loss of their shared history i think? nobody hated anyone, but you had tim be like "i'm close to jason, dick who?" so you have tim, who is now dealing with a dick who is treating him like a distant coworker and doesn't understand that they were really, really close because they don't have their shared history in this dick's universe! and maybe this dick thinks that tim is a bit of a boner, because nu52 tim is a bit of a boner, and this situation sucks all around! it makes tim very unhappy that there's a world where dick and him aren't best bros. anyways because post-crisis tim can worm him way into anyone's heart, he does eventually worm his way into nu52 dick's heart and by the time the dicks switch back to their rightful place, nu52 dick is like. hm, maybe i should spend some time and actually get to know tim. this has the bonus of post-crisis dick getting to also angst over having to deal with nu52 tim who doesn't really get why dick is acting like they're super close? and dick gets to be very sad there's a world that he and tim don't have a shared history that's actually pretty important to him, now that he's faced with a tim who doesn't understand why they're so close. also, this tim is a bit of a boner who seems to like jason for some reason. dick just misses his tim, okay? :(

anyways, important notes from either of these scenarios: tim spends an inordinate amount of time complaining to huntress and/or oracle about the state of things.

I'm not a Tim fan, but there's something about a Tim and Damian bonding fic that just hits me right in the feels.

on a similar note, Jason and Dick bonding, especially when both of their characters are written correctly. It's a different dynamic bc Damian is an insecure kid who's 12 trying to find his place within the family, and Jason is a self sabotaging adult trying to push everyone away because he doesn't think he's worthy of love. and then there's Tim who's a reluctant older brother, but you can tell he still cares about Damian, and Dick wants to build a stronger relationship with Jason, but still doesn't want to push any boundaries.

Jason on the run from the league with Damian -> I'm currently reading two fics like that.

Time travel fics (that should be obvious with the types of fics I write)

Flashback fics to when Jason was Robin, and it's just fluffy headcanons and Jason getting used to living in the manor. (again, Kinda obvious with the fics I write)

I also like fics exploring how Jasons morals work, and like seeing the way Jason exists in other peoples minds

I also find fics with proper Cass and Steph characterization (meaning more than 'Mute Assassin Doll,' and 'Tim's ex') Gold, and Any Fic That Has Duke In It For More Than A Mention Is Like Winning The Lottery.

I'd definitely recommend reading Wayne Family Adventures on Webtoon but as for fic recs here are my top 7 batfam fics of all time, plus one wip that's less batfam, more timkon, but simply must be ranked.

Yesterday's Voices by Lemonadegarden... this was the fic that got me really into the fun but heartbreaking family dynamics. Also Tim plays a minor role, but this was the first time I was like, I need to know more about this guy. A quick summary: Batman gets amnesia and doesn't remember the last five years, or the recent death in the family, and the angst hits so hard.

exactly how this grace thing works by irnan... this is by far the best de-aged fic I've ever read. Dick, the oldest sibling, suddenly becomes the youngest and it's such a brilliant character analysis. And I'm always a fan of Dick Grayson getting the love and appreciation he deserves.

The Study of Birds by Maskoftheray… this one focuses on the sibling dynamics, mainly between Tim, Damian, and Dick. It’s hurt/comfort with birdwatching and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I read it.

Brother Wanted by Vamillepudding... This is an au where a ten year old Tim places an ad in the newspaper for a brother and it's as cute and perfect as it sounds. The Jason and Tim bonding in this is 10/10 and makes all their canon angst that much more devastating

World's Saddest Breakfast Club by motleyfam... this fic includes the whole fam and it's so sweet about it. Jason breaks into the manor and ends up cooking everyone breakfast.

scapegoat by envysparkler... the sibling blame game in this is so real. Basically the family starts blaming Jason for every little thing because Bruce would never get mad at the child he just reconciled with.

I gotta say one of my ultimate favorite things about being into the batman universe is just breaking down the dynamic of the family in general.

Like I love the fanficions that portray the characters so bueatifully with their hopes and fears. Strengths and insecurities while healing the characters. The thing is I need more of it honestly.

Like I want to see Bruce working through his problems and actually talking, not just telling them he's scared about loosing them but actually talking to them about his fears and working through them (and we love to see him actually having a partner, superbat or not).

Not to mention the batkids as well. Grayson getting the recognition and treatment he deserves. Jason finally getting closure and settling his feelings with Bruce. Tim not only talking to Jason but also not getting treated as an after thought ( seriously I've been watching a lot of lego dc movies and overall the animated stuff and he's not even in half of em??) and Damian getting to be a kid and live his life.

There's this DamiTim fic called, "That Unwanted Animal". And it's literally so good. Basically They were all a little older when Bruce died. Damian, iirc, was sixteen.

Imagine Dick finding out about their relationship. Idk if their dynamics would have been the same in this AU since Damian and Dick had gotten closer in canon during his time as Batman. What if Dick thought Tim had groomed their baby brother? Damian would've been offended if it weren't helping him isolate Tim further, making sure that Tim is his all alone.

By the time someone manages to talk sense or prove Dick wrong, he's too late. Tim doesn't trust him anymore. He's even more attached to Damian, always clinging to him, always looking to him on what to do next. Dick screams at Damian that he broke Tim and that he doesn't trust that his obsession would even last since he snuffed out the fire that was Tim's independence and brain. But Damian have already accounted for that. He doesn't really care for Tim's independence. And he won't let his mind dull. After all, they make so much enemies, his mind would be his ultimate weapon against them in the event that Damian can't reach him in time to protect him.

And it's all Dick's fault really. If he only investigated more. If he only hadn't let his emotions get the best of him. His outburst about Tim and Damian's relationship had reached the other vigilantes. His beloved has been shunned and turned away by those blind fools. But they have made their relationship closer and stronger. He'll be sure to thank Dick and send him an invitation to their wedding

i just read it!!!!!! it was so good!!!!!!! i love fics where tim's struggle is the idea that HE will be perceived as the aggressor even when he's the victim!!! one of my favorite fics where this happens is this fic by weirdalterego

i think that damian and tim's relationship and dynamic is very unique and different from that other batcest ones because in the age gap- TIM is the one who is older, the adult, the "mature" one which inherently shifts the power dynamic in his favor and in basically every other scenario that would be the case. but because DAMIAN is the younger person he absolutely holds a lot of sway and power as well as the ability to completely flip the power dynamics because of just how much bullheadedness and audacity he has. in their dynamic, damian is often the aggressor with tim. he's the one who attacks, and tries to hurt tim and tim is the one forced to defend or backed into a corner until he fights back. i think that in general their realtionship and one in which damian is pursuing tim is almost so unbelievable it doesn't even register as taboo because people's default assumption will be that TIM was the one doing something wrong, tim was the one grooming damian, taking advantage of damian.

tim being hit with the realization that not only do his friends and family not believe him about what's going on- they think HE'S the predator and not the victim. i truly think that tim, in a delicate and unstable state, would absolutely be rendered emotionally broken by it. and damian who has been trying to make him pliable and obedient would be there to comfort him, stroke his hair, tell him 'there there' while tim trembles like a frightened puppy and sobs while clinging to damian- the only person who cares about him. especially after dick tears into tim, launching horrible accusations that just make tim cry.

even worse is that dick is a venter. he vents to friends and dick has many friends and those friends talk and it's why tim had found no support from the community when he went looking for bruce. bruce and clark and so many leaguers are off-planet. maybe if they weren't they could've stopped dick...told him to think about what he was saying, if he REALLY thought tim was capable of such things. even jason, when he returns to gotham after a long-term undercover op, expresses immediate distrust in dick's conclusion.

jason knows predators, he knows pedophiles, he knows how they work, how they think, how they lay traps, how they lure. predators that prey on kids prey on them because they're young, small, and vulnerable. they rely on their inexperience and the fact that they don't know better or are in shitty home situations so no one is around to protect them. jason stresses to dick that predators and pedophiles follow their dicks and their desires, they're too fucking stupid to actually outsmart anyone or be discreet about what they want. if someone like tim was a predator they would never fucking know it.

but that's not what pushes the realization onto dick. it's kori. while dick is blasting tim's name over a call, kori's smile fades and grows thin lipped and grim. she comes to dick one night. flies to his apartment and asks to talk. she doesn't say that dick's an idiot but she asks what led dick to this conclusion. why he believed all these terrible things about tim. dick shows her the videos, the photos, he tells her what he saw when he walked in on tim riding damian on a rooftop while rain drenched both their bodies.

dick realizes that this hatred festering in his stomach is not something he's ever felt for tim. kori guides him through it. helps him see. how tim's face in the photos is always creased in reluctance, distress, and panic. how damian keeps asking tim, keeps touching him, keeps cornering tim until tim agrees to sex.

dick goes into tim's files and personal messages and sees unkind words and messages, hears how 'red robin' has been blacklisted from other cities outside gotham and, with dawning horror, realizes what he's done.

dick had never really healed from...from that night...on the roof...in the rain with tarantula over him. and then....he'd seen damian.

arching up and moaning trying to keep his cock in tim's cunt as his hips gyrated and slammed down...and all he'd seen was himself...younger and upset and disoriented and begging for it to stop.

dick almost throws up as he stares down at the messages. at the pictures and video.

bruce returns to a devastated dick and horrible accusations being thrown around about tim.

by the time they managed to quell rumors they realize damian and tim haven't been living in the manor for awhile. despite the fact that he always eats his meals at the manor, damian is almost always spending time at tim's apartment. bruce and burst in while tim is burying his face into a couch cushion, damian's fingers tangled in his hair and pulling tim's head up to stare at the laptop playing porn. damian is fucking tim roughly and not stopping even when bruce and dick arrive.

he refuses to stop even when bruce roughly orders him to. dick tries to get close to tim but tim just sniffles and retreats into damian's arms who strokes his back and soothes him while staring at both batman and nightwing with victory in his eyes.

dick blames himself for chasing tim into...into...damian's arms. he doesn't want to think or believe that damian was ever truly capable of such things but...hadn't he had no problem believing them of tim?

dick and bruce are thinking of ways to unfuck dick's massive screw up when...when an invitation comes in the mail. damian has freshly turned 18. which means its legal for him to get married.

which is what is happening. bruce gets stone-faced and is already thinking of how they can put a stop to all of this when more news reaches them.

tim is pregnant.

at least a few months already which is shocking to hear because they hadn't seen evidence of it when they'd last seen tim. but it's true. the pictures of a little blob in tim's womb are in his medical records courtesy of leslie who has known for months about what damian was doing but bound by confidentiality and tim's own close-lipped confessions.

dick stares at the pictures and invitations with numbness flooding his body and can't help but feel like this was all his fault.

I feel like the reason so much content of the Batkids is so ooc and unrealistic and if i'm being mean straight up corny in a bad way is that the fandom dosen't understand the particular type of siblings they are.I don't mean adoptive since they're not normal adoptive siblings-in the sense that they weren't all raised together under the same roof by the same parent(s)-but found siblings,which is a very important distinction when it comes to potrayals.I'm not gonna go into detail so i don't make anyone uncomfortable and it would derail my points anyway but i'm like them in the sense that i have a shit ton of trauma that nobody else understood or sympathized with until my friends who i now see as my siblings in addition to my biological ones came along and also like them,we're not all the same age so that effects our relathionships with eachother.To elaborate by using the Batkids as examples since this post is about them:

Dick has gotten the 'Ultra Responsible Perfect Eldest SiblingTM' and 'Adult who's so goofy and sweet they're literally mentally a child/teen who can't do anything by themself' roles shoved onto him equally popularly by different sections of the fandom and yet somehow also some of the same ones.As someone who has a pretty similar position to him with his own found younger siblings,neither of those are accurate At All.He does his best to be a positive influence on the other Batkids and someone who they can turn to when they have problems but also dosen't treat them like they're his students or something rather than his family and joins in on their silly shenanigans and encourages them to do dumb kid shit because he knows they deserve to act their age and that's what a good eldest sibling is.Not an 'i'm so much better than you' robot or a manchild but someone who you can both look to for help and who's your friend .Him and the others for that matter deserve nothing else.Related to that,please erase the idea that he can't both an older sibling and a parental figure-One of my younger friend's literally calls me 'Mom' and 'Dad'.They can and do co-exist.Also this leads to accidentally treating them as younger than they are and he gets mixed reviews /lh
