Batfam members favorite sci-fi shows:
with the help of @space-specs
Bruce- Doctor Who (i vote he’s either a 12 fan or a 9 fan -ketchup)
Dick- Star Wars: The Clone Wars series (2D and 3D)
Babs- Firefly (just look at the cast.)
Jason- Babylon 5 (also probably a big Star Trek TNG fan)
Tim- Star Trek: Discovery (but grew up watching Voyager and is definitely a Harry Kim fan)
Cass- Star Trek: The Animated Series (has so many of the gifs and screencaps to use as reaction images)
Steph- Star Trek: Lower Decks (its so much goofier than live action star trek stuff and she really vibes with Beckett Mariner)
Duke- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (there’s so many complex interpersonal stories and also Commander Sisko is a badass and a fantastic dad that a kid who lost his dad would look up to so much)
Damian- Astroboy (just look at it. just look at it. like gently holds -specs)
Cullen- Star Trek: The Original Series (idk he just seems like he’d enjoy some really homoerotic-not-at-all-homoerotic space dramas)
Harper- The Mandalorian (just LOOK at the suit designs, omg -specs)
Kate- The X-Files (gay people. also badass hot redhead)
Alfred- The Twilight Zone (its a classic, and he’s a classy man. plus i imagine that when he has time off, he just wants to indulge in something wacky and lighthearted instead of all doom and gloom)
Terry McGinnis- Quantum Leap (i have no explanation except that i think he’d like it -ketchup)
Matt McGinnis- Cyberchase (”it’s so retro!~” -ketchup, as Matt)
Jarro- Futurama (it just is. look at him. then look at futurama. then look back at him. then look back at futurama. now look back at him. now it makes sense to you.)
Drake Winston- Westworld (he’s a batfam member in my heart and deserves to be here. also he just would be, and specs agrees with me -ketchup)
Carrie Kelley- Misfits (robert sheehan. -ketchup)(enough said -specs)
Jim Gordon- Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (yes it was a show. he’d like the books as well (all 5 of them), and the movie)
Bette- Lost (she just seems like she’d enjoy it)
Luke Fox- Battlestar Galactica (i vibe-checked it and it checks out -specs)

for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal
before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

My one problem with Star Trek is that no one is ever consuming contemporary media. As in media that's contemporary for their time period. Everyone is always reading old novels and practicing classical music. They study Klingon Opera or read old Cardassian mysteries. No one is ever like really into obscure Klingon Nightcore. Nobody is reading shitty Ferengi pulp novels. There's no kids media of any kind. Where is space Sesame Street or junior novels about gaining superpowers from a warp core accident? What about comic books? Nobody is playing crappy indy holodeck games. It's always some recreation of a historical battle or just lounging in a mud pit at some alien spa. Someone give me angsty Bajoran protest music. I need some rebellious teens producing the worst most cacophonous death metal techno that they recorded in an empty cargo bay. I need contemporary pop culture in Star Trek.

Can anyone think of a piece of media with one or more of these three themes
Water +space horror
Time and repeated cycles
Older teens to young adults fighting an unknown spiritual entity
This question is time sensitive

I saw this on twitter and the idea of this happening sounds absolutely hilarious. Like Han, Ventress and Merrin just direct Thrawn to a DMV and make him coming to dathomir absolute hell
I- I know genuinely nothing about Star Wars besides the first three movies (is that 4-6 or 1-3? Idk the last three in the OG run that are chronologically the last 3 movies) but I do appreciate this information. I sent a screenshot of this ask to my dad and he has been ranting about Harrison Ford as an actor for the past 10 minutes.

Contemporary Japanese light novels and classic American sci-fi are basically evil opposites when it comes to their titling conventions: both titles will be long and rambling, but the former will be a prosaically descriptive phrase that lays out the story's entire premise, while the latter will be a line from a poem the author liked that tells you absolutely fucking nothing.

Someday there's going to be a human in the far future whose hyperfixation is the early 21st century. And they're going to read our books, and watch our movies and shows, the ones that survived, probably the good ones that people kept preserving. And they'll think about them, and talk about them with likeminded people, and enjoy the same parts we did, and have the same favorite character that you might have. And I think that's cool.

dc x dp au but it’s just jason throwing hands at vlad and completely destroying him while team phantom is in the background cheering him on
(also before anyone gets the wrong idea, i do not ship anyone in dp (especially danny and jazz) with jason or anyone in the batfamily because that is weird and also gross because the majority of the characters in dp are underage (which so many people who are in the dc x dp fandom seem to ignore, btw) and the majority of the batfam (except for damian (and tim for some reason since dc has kept him 17 for a while)) have been adults for quite a while (and also if people going to ship danny with anyone in the batfamily it should be damian because they’re the same age))
