#Cass is Agent P

Danny and Cass are Dr Doof and Agent P
So! Here's a simple prompt. Danny is a small time Villain who uses his Technical Mind to build batshit crazy Inventions in an attempt to take over the "Tri-City Area" (Gotham, Bludhaven, Metropolis). Cass is the Silent Badass who is stuck having to defeat him every time.
Just imagine it!
...
Danny: Ahhh, Orphan. What an unexpected surprise. And by Unexpected I mean COMPLETELY EXPECTED! *slams buttom* *trap springs up around cass*
Cass: ...
Danny: Now, I bet you are wondering why I have covered all of Metropolis in Aluminum Foil. Well. IF I am to take over the Tri City Area, all three Cities must be together! So, using my Fenton-Magnet-Inator, I will pull Metropolis across the Harbor and unite all 3 cities! What do you think of that!? *turns back to cass*
Cass: *holding the dismantled trap with a bored look on her face* ...
Danny: ...Okay then, fine, whatever. It took me all day to design the perfect trap for you and you dismantled it in 5 seconds...I'm not upset...
Cass: *sheepish look* ...want to fight now...?
Danny: ...I would like that...
...
And if Danny is Dr Doofenshmirtz, and Cass is Agent P, who would Phineas and Ferb be? I vote for Jon and Damian.
And Tim is Candace.
...
Jon: I know what we're gonna do today!
Damian: This will be entertaining.
*5 hours later*
Tim: BRUU-UCE! Jon and Damian built a Kryptonian Flying Roller Coaster!
Bruce: I'm one of the world's greatest detectives Tim, I think I would have noticed that.
Tim: *also one of the world's greatest detectives* ...dude...
...
This was just a fun thought I had at work, but I feel like it works well enough.
This could be a Romantic Cass/Danny, or just regular old Frenemies Cass/Danny, but either way I just really love the concept of Danny being a Villain and Cass being the Hero constantly sent to stop him.
(Maybe he is too competent otherwise? The other Heroes don't know why, but every time someone other than Cass tries to stop him he is suddenly Extremely Dangerous. Maybe it's a Crush?)

It is a rare day when the Batfamily has a declared day and night off (usually instituted by Alfred when everyone is injured). They decided to spend the day watching a movie together. Only, Bruce is fed up with the Batkids spending too much time arguing over what movie they should watch and turns it to a random channel that happened to be playing Phineas and Ferb. He states that 'if you act like children, you watch childish things'. Little did Bruce know how much of a pain it would cause him.
First off, Damian has never seen the show, but now that he has, the OWCA agents, especially Agent P, are his favorites. He is already compiling a list of measurements as to give Alfred to make custom fedoras for Titus, Alfred the Cat, Batcow, and any other pet the Wayne's own. Alfred already has the sewing machine out. Damian even commissioned one for Hailey that Dick can't wait to put on her. And on a completely unrelated note, an animal smuggling ring that Damian busted last week happened to have an abused platypus that Damian has now decided would be better fit in the Wayne Manner than taken care of in some wildlife preserve.
Dick remembers trying to recreate do everything Phineas and Ferb's summer as a kid, and is now determined to do it again. While everyone is distracted by the show, he calling is order and favors, determined to make things and contacting anyone who could help. He already has the Teen Titans on his side. He even ordered roller coaster parts that should come tomorrow and who knows what else. While he might not be able to personally build everything, he knows people who could. But for some reason, the parts never arrive at the manor.
Jason is hardcore identifying with Candace. While he is not the oldest, he knows what it is like to have the perfect sibling that never gets caught for their wrongdoing (*cough*cough* Dick). He already had to go through Dick's crazy summer plans before when he was Robin, trying to stop Dick from getting himself killed, and he doesn't want to do it again. Throughout the show, he is trying to bust Dick whenever he leaves to make a suspicious phone call, but Dick always says he is ordering takeout. Jason is pulling his hair out wondering how come no one has questioned the amount of times Dick has left to order food and how none of it has arrived yet. When he gets a chance, he sings E.V.I.L. B.O.Y.Z. directed toward Dick, who sits up front looking completely innocent.
The minute Phineas and Ferb is mentioned, Stephanie quicky fled the room only to roll back in full Duckie Momo apparel. She has on a Duckie Momo onesie, Duckie Momo slippers, and Duckie Momo glasses. In fact, the whole floor has become a Duckie Momo nest, complet with blankets and pillows. She even had a matching onesie for Cass. She also came in knowing all of the songs word for word and had so much fun recreating the "Squirrels in my pants" dance.
When Cass isn't in the Duckie Momo nest with Steph, cuddling a Duckie Momo plushie, she is copying fight scenes from the show. It started off as Steph asking if she could do a move Agent P did, only for her to recreate the whole scene. Now everyone is wanting Cass to copy any of the animals fighting moves, but she declined until she also got a fedora. Damian quickly got her one and declared her an honorary OWCA Agent. Dick tried to join in, but failed. Jason about died laughing about how a platypus could beat Dick in a fight, only for Damian to yell, "Agent P is a worthy opponent, Todd!" with Cass nodding in agreement. Either way, Dick has mainly been pouting ever since.
Tim has been up for about a week before he got dragged into family time. Now, he is just staring numbly at the TV, saying 'mood' whenever Doofenshmirtz talks about his awful childhood backstories (like the one where his parents didn't show up for his birth), giving Bruce an aneurysm each time. Tim is already on the edge, and Bruce just hopes he doesn't gain any motivation to copy Doof's 'take over the Tri-state area' schemes. Bruce especially worries whenever Tim spots a machine and says 'I could build that'.
Unbeknownst to Bruce, Barbara already has the schematics for all of Doof's machines as well as Phineas and Ferb's. What started as a bored interest during summer as a child grew over time, especially with all resources she gained by being Batgirl and Oracle. The information on both are kept in separate secret heavily protected files to keep Tim away from Doof's and Dick away from Phineas and Ferb's. She even has a warning system in place if either of them get close to making one of the machines, either on accident or on purpose, and diverts them away from completing it. The system also includes orders to return any shipments made solely for the purpose of recreating a machine and deleting any records of the order in the first place (hence why Dick's shipment never came). But Babs is content with letting Bruce worry and continues to watch the show with a Duckie Momo blanket spread over her lap (courtesy of Steph).
Since Duke was still working day shift (he wasn't as injured as the others and wanted to flee before there was bloodshed over choosing the movie), he comes back home and happens to conveniently be listening to a playlist of Phineas and Ferb's greatest hits. Upon seeing everyone, Duke takes an earbud out and asks, "Whatcha doin'?" The only answer he got was Steph throwing another Duckie Momo onesie in his face.
An hour later, Jason and Steph are singing BUSTED on top of a table, Jason as a warning to Dick and Steph just for the heck of it. Meanwhile, Cass and Duke acts as Duckie Momo backup dancers with full choreography. Dick wanted to join in as well, but Jason forced him to sit down and watch, hoping the message will sink through, but Dick thinks it is because they don't like his dancing so now he is pouting again. Tim is waving his cellphone light as if this is the most meaningful part of the night, while Damian is about to wrestle the fedora onto Alfred the Cat, as the cat keeps batting it away. All the while, Babs is recording everything.
Bruce is reminded that this is why you should never watch daytime television and turns the channel, despite the cries of anguish. Only to be horrified when Alfred reminds him and the children that show is can be viewed on Disney + and can be streamed at anytime. He runs back to his room as the beginning notes to the intro fill the air and all his children sing along.

Run Ghost Run 5
A03 Prev Next
description of injury
Four days ago
Cass and Stephanie had been in Illinois for a few days now. Just wrapped up a mission and had been prepared to send a status report. Midwestern’s just did not know how to chill out. One second there finishing up and the next Cass is glowing green. That was concerning, then she was talking about a potential war. Which was even worse.
Cass insisted on going deeper into Illinois. Her mind was set, and she had already taken off. Obviously, Stephanie was going along for the ride. Should they have contacted the others, probably. Especially since they hadn’t confirmed the first mission had completed. What was one more day of no contact.
Just like that they find themselves finding a patrol around a town. Men and Woman in white suits were walking around laser guns in hand watching the skies. White vans and closed roads all around them. No one in or out. Cass had certainly led them to something interesting. The Patrol seemed focused on the sky towards the town form what they could see with their batnoculars.
Going around the patrol the were able to see a run down nearly falling apart sign through the batnoculars. Barely legible words Amity Parks. As well a giant whit building. Cass pointed towards the building with a nod, and they were off.
There were more of these people in white suits, more whit vans all focused on the base. She could sense the white theme. It was surrounded by a barbed wired fence and seemed fortified. There where seemingly laser guns mounted on the fence pointed towards the sky. Whatever was going on he could fly. Were these people hunting aliens or metas? That would be a real problem.
Stephanie turned around just in time to see in the distance a grey armored RV plowing through the road blockades then the fence around the building. As it got closer, she could she the Green F on the side of the RV. The drivers had no care about property damage.
The real problem was when the RV crashed into the building two adults were pulling a passed-out teen from the back. A teen who was clearly restrained. Ropes keeping his hands to his back. They were talking to a man outside the base who looked way to excited for it to be anything better then bad. The way Cass was watching the scene confirmed a rescue mission.
Despite the looks of the building even excluding the newly made path into the building their security was weak. She wouldn’t be surprised if untrained civilians would be able to break into the building. There vents were even big enough to crawl through. They would have to do a little recon, see what they could figure out. Find the kid grab him and get out. Given the situation they did click emergency alert button. It would be a little bit till they got here but they could hold them off for an hour or so.
The vents did not cover every room in the building. They couldn’t even access a way to disable the power and get the jump on them. They were now on the lookout for anyone they may be able to pass off as. Get at least one preferable both on the floor and search for the kid.
Cass and Stephanie saw a blonde about the same height. Good enough for them. A simple knock out later and Stephanie was on the prowl. When she found him, Cass would emerge, and they would kick bad guy Butt. Hopefully nobody would ask for her name, the tag on the suit just said agent P.
Getting pulled into an operating room as she was the newbie who had cleanup duty proved how bad this case was. The kid was cut open and obviously spiraling. Not to mention the glowing red concoction injected into him was meant to hurt. Agent K and O were just awful humans. She did the signal for Cass to make her appearance as she escorted him to his cell. It was not a room in the slightest.
Agent K was more than happy to rant about the ghost to her, they were bent on destruction, stealing besides and just needed to be weapons. He didn’t keep it in at all. After a discussion with him she swiped his card so she could get the boy out of the cell.  There was still no sign of Cass. There must be something lurking keeping her away. Shed just continue her own.
She managed to get a few trackers on him before freeing him and decided to almost listen to his request. She would delete it off the main server but make copies for there records. Find out who he was and why they wanted him. He clearly needed proper help and a good nap or two.
Deleting the data she turned to go find Cass. Cass was in the next room frozen.

Present
Barbara was not meant to be working in the library today. She was told forced to take a break. Things have not been going well these past few days. Steph and Cass have been unresponsive for five days. To make matters worse any signal sent to their comms or trackers would just freeze. No matter what she sent just lost in time, it was driving her bats. Banging her head against the computer wasn’t doing any good. Not to mention both Damian and Tim felt some warning. Both claimed they briefly glowed green. Nothing on the cameras or any spikes anywhere when the incident occurred. No one even witnessed it. The two couldn’t even explain what kind of warning it was. Both had been grounded for the time being. Jason was just flat out ignoring them again on top of it. Bruce had already headed out to Illinois; Dick was now patrolling Gotham alone at night. Duke during the day and Jason flat out stopped responding two days ago.
She was oh so kindly told to take a break. Hence why she was at the library today. She had planned on just using a laptop while giving the illusion she was doing something else. The sudden call out was just suspicious. Now here she was positive the bats had something to do with a worker calling out. Now stuck manning the front desk. Turned out it was a good and bad thing. Bad that there was now another mystery good that at least someone was now aware of the suspicious child. The kid in front of her had gone through something. He couldn’t be older than 15.
The kids’ bags would give Tim a run for it. Besides the bags the eyes were red and puffy underneath. The way they walked reminded her of any of having a rib cracked or broken. His breaths seemed forced a very forced. He was walking with a slight limp as well. It could just be a runaway. She might as well solve at least one mystery today.
Watching his movement led her to believe it could be much more serious. He seemed very hesitant and seemed to be shrinking away when anyone would glance at him. He looked ready to take off giving her name may get him to give his. A name even if it was just a first would be a good start. The moment the kids sleeve rolled up as he touched his throat made it more important.
Those bruises he was spotting were fresh. You could tell he had been strapped down to something then moved into smaller restraints after. Big purple bruising around his wrist. There were obvious friction burns. He struggled against it, there were smaller red lines in the middle of the bruising. Something thin had dug in after the fact. Add in the bags under his eyes only meant bad things.
The most glaring part was the black hair and blue eyes. Either he was in a bad situation hiding from something and maybe has a responsible adult out there looking him. Knowing Bruce, she could only imagine how long it was going to take for some solution. Not long once she tells them about him.
Him wanting the guest login for a computer could work in her advantage. The library technically didn’t require a name, the only reason they needed to check in was so the staff knew someone was using a computer. It was more a notice to the staff. Never could be too careful after all.
Danny once he was able to talk once he seemed to give away more info then attended. He wasn’t the best liar around. He knew he didn’t have ID or had no intentions of giving it to her. The way he paused at sister and jazz led her to believe that those bits were true. A sister named Jazz, most likely short for something. Could be jasmine or maybe the parent just liked that music style. He said his supposed name with confidence, some part of it was likely to be true. Rather than a guest logging she gave him premade account. He seemed to buy it was her account.
It was “her” account just one meant to log the information being searched.
What she knew at this point was he had obviously been held somewhere recently escaping, was from the Midwest, had a sister called Jazz and was most likely from a small town. There is no way someone from a large city would say their vice principle gave them homework for the next year. The larger the districts the more last-minute changes, change of staff’s new school boundary lines the whole work.
Regardless of where he came from it was obvious, he needed help.
First thing she needed to do was shoot a message to the group chat.
Oracle: keep a watch out for this kid. Calling himself Danny Cosmos. Something’s up with him, nothing good. Currently at the library. I’m attaching an image, it’s a tad glitchy not sure why. Most likely in danger and hiding from something.
Barbra attached an image of him when the sleeve had rolled down. She pulled it from the security camera in the library, all the footage with him was glitchy.
Signal: I’ll stay in the area as much I can. Give me a heads up when he starts to head out, will follow him.
With the message sent out Barbra watched the internet searches go on. Nothing he googled eased any concerns. A town that suddenly disappeared, the apparently lack of knowledge on hero’s, the deep dive into meta human protection, and a whole entire act declaring a species un-sentient. How could the undergrowth acts just get missed by the league. Even with it being hidden as it was some alert should have been sent.
Barbra had the feeling he wasn’t going to trust any of them. The way he investigated Gotham vigilantes after the act falling into the more conspiracy side wasn’t going to do them any favors. His searching patterns indicated that he was unaware of any of the stuff he investigated.
The whole Starling and Noctule thing was odd. Maybe he did have some early homework he wanted to do. Why else would he be looking that up, it just didn’t fit in.
Oracle: RR you should investigate the undergrowth acts now.
Oracle: Kid isn’t likely to trust anyone, he’s heading out now
Red Robin: This is going to need more than a PowerPoint.
It wasn’t even five minutes after her message when Duke replied.
Signal: A sphere of darkness just ate him. He didn’t disappear through the floor or even turn small. Could not see through the sphere or manipulate it at all. Could not get him in time.
It was at the same time an echoey voice sounded through her earpiece.

smash or pass all level 1 agents for hiro
[ W H I R L P O O L ] — Smash. & Honestly? Probably his favorite Level I if he had to pick one. Smash but like respectfully. Like, he would take Cass out to dinner and get to know him before he smashed. [ L O T U S ] — Smash. There's just something about a beautiful woman telling you what to do that just absolutely makes Hiroji want to know what all he can to do to make her happy. [ H A D E S ] — Smash. If it's with Ymir, absolutely. No questions asked. He is curious to know how that would even feel. By himself? Well, Hiroji would want to know if he could get someone that tall on his knees. [ G L I M M E R ] — Smash. You kidding? Are you kidding? Smash! SMASH! Espeically if she's in diamond form. [ W I N T E R ] — Smash. Only because he knows she'd cut his throat if he said it. [ G R A N I T E ] — Smash. Watching her punch through rock makes Hiroji curious what she would do if she punched him? He'd absolutely want to find out. Smash him back, please and thank you. [ Y M I R ] — Smash. Hiroji would smash him if he could get both him and Hades together as a package deal. Without Hades? It's the same thing, he'd want to know how good Ymir looked on his knees. [ L O V E S H O T ] — Smash. Mostly, Hiroji would to know if uh ... he's wielding a big bow elsewhere too, you know? [ P R I N C E H A R R Y] — Smash. Hiroji would probably smash him first, disrespectfully. Guy kisses and kills? That's hot. Hiroji likes the thrill of knowing he might die, I guess? Honestly, that tracks for him. [ V I P E R ] — Smash. It's the evil glint in her eye, what can we say? It does things to him. [ F L A R E ] — Smash. Hiroji would join Cerb to get a chance to smash Flare — like being perfectly honestly. A woman that can smash him to smithereens? Damn, say less.

What's your favourite period of Batfamily dynamics?
What's the one that you're most interested about exploring through fanfic? Reading the comics for? Reinterpreting, so that it Actually Works?
This poll isn't interested in which period is best written. It wants the one that gets you passionate - either excited or furious - in a way that makes you want to go back to it over and over. (You don't even need to have READ the comics. Choose the period that makes the most interesting fanfic.)
It also isn't about which events were most interesting. It cares more about the relationships (including relationships with outside teams), how they changed over time, and which dynamics were most compelling to you.
Here are our challengers!
The Golden Age (1939 - 1960) - Alfred is a bumbling fool, Bruce murders people in the (very) early issues, Bruce and Dick need no motivation beyond 'it's the right thing to do' and 'we're AWESOME' (and why would they?) [22 years]
The Silver Age (1960 - 1980) - Dick gets fun Teen Titans friends, Bruce goes on space/time travel adventures, Alfred still didn't raise Bruce, and now we have BABS [21 years]
Early - Mid 80s (1980 - 1986) - Dick gets to be oh so melodramatic with his new angsty Titans friends in New York, Bruce says 'Chum' and 'Lad' as he ruffles tiny Jason's hair, Alfred raised Bruce and is his awesome self, Babs continues to be able to do anything, and they're an actual family [7 years]
Late 80s - Early 90s (1986-1992) - The Dark Knight Returns heralds a dark new era, Babs is crippled, and Jason dies. Tim is a new type of Robin - one who supports Batman. Babs rebuilds herself, no child needed. Dick and Bruce try, but mostly fail, to communicate. Alfred becomes the heart of a family that doesn't know it's a family. [7 years]
The 90s (1992 - 1999) - Dick and Tim are brothers. Oracle rejoins the Batfamily, while continuing her separate life. Dick moves from New York to Blüdhaven, closer to the Bats than the Titans. Bruce has 2 sons, even though neither realize he thinks that way. Steph arrives, and exists on the edges, only connected to the family through Tim. A variety of other people come and go through their lives - Jean-Paul, Helena Bertinelli, Harold, Sasha Bordeaux, etc. [8 years]
Early 2000s (1999 - 2003) - The family grows. Cass continues Babs' legacy, and Steph finally gets a friend. Babs and Alfred are in some ways joint centres of the family. Alfred and Bruce fight about how to raise kids. Dick and Tim get even closer. Tim starts Young Justice, and Dick is back with his oldest friends. [5 years]
Mid 2000s (2003 - 2007) - The era of death. Donna dies, Dick's team disbands, and Tim's team renames themselves the Teen Titans. Bad idea, many teens die, including most of Tim's friends. Steph dies. Tim and Cass get close, until Cass is brainwashed and kills a lot of people. Many, many people around Dick are murdered, and eventually Blüdhaven is exploded. Jason is back from the dead, and exuberantly contributing to the murders. Dick is furious with Jason, Jason is violent towards Tim, and Tim is far less forgiving than fanon pretends. Babs gets colder, Alfred gets older, and Bruce shuts down. [5 years]
Late 2000s (2007 - 2011) - The era of grief. Bruce, Dick, and Tim take a year long cruise to recover. Cass and Steph eventually return. But the scars run deep. Everyone's relationships are shaky. Babs leaves Gotham. Jason has a different motivation every arc. Tim is trying to clone people and being head-hunted by Ra's al Ghul. Damian shows up and topples the already unsteady situation. Bruce dies. Cass leaves. Tim fights with Dick and goes off to prove Bruce is alive. Damian and Steph both rebuild themselves in the ashes, while Dick tries to hope for a better future. [5 years]
New 52 (2012 - 2016) - The universe is rebooted. Jason has friends now! Dick spends some time as a secret agent. Damian continues his preboot growth. Tim ... exists. Steph and Cass don't. Babs is Batgirl again. Most of the past no longer exists. [5 years]
Rebirth (2016 - 2023) - Comics slowly bring in previous continuity. Alfred dies, Damian runs away from home, both Steph and Cass are back and being Batgirl, Tim is back with Young Justice for a while. Jason reintegrates with the Batfamily on and off. Bruce gets worse and worse at parenting. (I know this should be split up, but I haven't read ANY of these comics) [8 years]

I hope you enjoy this part :D

Virgil hated medication. Hated it with a violent passion. It messed with everything. Made him dumb, stupid and out of control. And the fog. The post-medication fog was almost as bad as whatever injury he was trying to hide from.
This time was no different. His head was full of cotton wool and it was hard to put two thoughts together.
He knew he was in the infirmary. The crinkle of plastic cotton sheets gave that away. That and the smell. Grandma kept this place clean the old-fashioned way – antiseptic and scrubbing brushes. The fact MAX, one of the most technologically advanced AIs on the planet, often helped her do the cleaning was an oxymoron, but what worked did the job as far as she was concerned.
As usual, he made the same mistake he always made in this situation and tried to move.
He couldn’t help the groan as his arm complained.
“Virg?”
Gordon.
A slow blink and the orange of his little brother’s shirt wobbled into focus. “Gords?”
“Hey, Virg. How are you feeling?”
A grunt and a few more neurons came online. Apparently, apart from some stiffness, only his arm was giving him trouble.
And his head.
Damn fog.
“Been worse.” He focussed on his brother’s face and frowned. “Are you okay?” Gordon’s eyes were red rimmed and strained, his face pale. It was so unlike his little brother’s usual demeanour, alarm bells started ringing and the fog was shoved aside as much as possible. “Gordon, talk to me.” He shoved his good arm under and pushed himself up.
Gordon reacted immediately, shooting up out of his seat and attempting to usher Virgil to lie back on the bed. “Hey, relax, Virgil. I’m f-fine.”
But his sunshine brother’s voice cracked on the last word and Gordon, the brightest ray of light amongst his brothers, WASP agent, survivor, tough as nails IR operative, had a tremble in his voice.
What the hell?
Virgil made vertical, Gordon’s hands attempting to both help and hinder. The world spun for a few long moments, but he was more worried about Gordon. “What’s wrong?”
“Damn it, Virgil, Grandma’s going to kill me if you hurt yourself.”
A breath. “I’m fine.” Focus. He threw off the covers and swung his legs around so he could sit without falling over. His arm was strapped to his bare chest.
Oh.
Ohhhh.
Shit.
Gordon was looking at him with worried eyes. “I can explain.” The words fell from his mouth.
His brother had his hand on Virgil’s good arm. “Virg, please lie down. Grandma’s angry enough already.”
“What?” Damn the fog!
And Gordon was hugging him.
Ever so gently, his arms, so much wirier but no less athletic, seemed so small to Virgil. They always had. Emphasis on the words ‘little brother’.
Virgil’s one good arm returned the embrace as best he could. “Gords, what is it?”
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For everything.”
“What? Gords, I don’t have the brainpower, or the coffee, for a guessing game.” Ugh, medication meant no coffee allowed, damnit!
Gordon stepped back and despite all the aquanaut’s years of experience and full adulthood, all Virgil could see was that scared kid who had lost his remaining parent in a fireball all those years ago.
He grabbed his little brother’s arm. “Gordon, talk to me.”
Strained carnelian eyes. “Why did you do it?”
“Do what?”
“Your tattoo.”
A swallow. “Because I needed to.” It had been a dark time.
There had been too many dark times.
Gordon’s eyes were focussed on Virgil’s shoulder, now swathed in bandages, likely hiding most of his tally.
“But Cass…”
Virgil’s heart froze. Pain far too recent to face. He couldn’t go there. Not yet.
No, please, not yet.
“It was Dad. And Mom. I…I wanted to acknowledge them. I needed them...with me.” How the hell did he explain it?
How did he explain the gaping holes they had left behind that he could not fill? Their ghosts haunted him in the deep of night. They hovered at the edge of his perception, taunting at being there, but when he turned, they were just as gone as they actually were.
Cass smiled at him in his dreams, his list of unfulfilled promises in her beautiful eyes.
“It helps.” A reminder of reality.
“But all those other dates?”
“A reminder. To try harder. To acknowledge their loss.”
“But-“
“It is my choice, Gordon. It does what I need it to do.”
His brother’s expression altered just a little, resignation creeping in. But then… “I have a book.” It was a whispered admission.
Blink. “What?”
Gordon straightened just a little. “I have a book. With names. Notes. What I remember about them. The ones I couldn’t help.”
Virgil’s eyes widened. “Gords…” His hand tightened around his brother’s arm.
The aquanaut looked up at him. “I do understand. Perhaps not the medium. But…yeah.” He looked away and sighed. “Dad’s pissed.”
Oh, shit.
“He and Scott had a showdown like I have never seen. It’s like Dad expected Scott to look after us. Like we aren’t adults. Like it was his responsibility.” Gordon’s lips thinned. “And Grandma…hell, Virg.”
And there was the source of the strain in his brother’s eyes. Family could hurt like no other.
“Help me up.” Virgil shuffled to the edge of the bed.
“Oh, god, hell no, Virg. Grandma will have your ass.” He floundered in an attempt to stop Virgil from climbing off the bed.
“Well, apparently, she already has everyone else’s, so I’ll just add it to her collection.” His feet hit the floor and he wobbled. But a little more spine and he was fully upright, still dressed in his grubby jeans.
The remains of his shirt lay on a chair in the corner. A few unsteady steps and he grabbed it. With his arm strapped up, it would be enough to hide his shame.
“Virg, don’t do this.”
“Could you please help me with my shirt?”
His brother sighed. “Damnit, Virgil, Grandma, Dad and Scott are all going to kill me for this.”
“Not your fault.” He fumbled with flannel and the material slipped from his fingers to fall to the floor. For the love of…!
But Gordon was there. His hands picked up the shirt and draped it across Virgil’s shoulders, helping him into the one remaining sleeve and buttoning it up to hold it in place best the ruined piece of clothing could do.
“Thanks, Gordon.”
His brother was not impressed. “You can put that on my headstone.”
“This is not on you.”
“It’s not on Scott either, but that doesn’t seem to matter.”
Virgil straightened as best he could. “I’ll fix it.”
“Virg-“
A hand on his brother’s shoulder, he tipped his head down a little for emphasis, grabbing his brother’s eyes with his own. “I’ll fix it.”
Gordon still wasn’t happy, but he put his hand over Virgil’s for just a moment. “I’m coming, too. Even if all I can do is prevent you from falling on your face. I’m dead either way, anyway.”
“This is not on you.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
Virgil sighed, let his hand drop and turned towards the door.
Steps a little wonky, he went looking for the rest of his family.
To kick his own share of asses.

This is not something Damian is 'supposed' to think, so he keeps it to himself.
But he's glad Grandfather's getting involved in Gotham.
It's only a shame he's no doubt going to be acting through an agent, some sycophant who would die for him. Damian wants Grandfather here. He wants to confront him without Mother removing him from the encounter like a helpless child, he wants –
He wants to hurt the man enough he won't ever be tempted to refer to him as Grandfather again. Not even in his head, where no one can hear it.
Cain being here is a problem. She won't let him do anything. At least not anything she views as 'excessive violence'. Damian doesn't understand. The swifter and more mercilessly you ended the fight, the better a demonstration is served to your enemies. Being merciful – gentle even – is a weakness your enemies will not demonstrate to you.
He thought she'd get that. Given their upbringings. But she's somehow managed to forget all of hers but the fighting skills.
… He doesn't know whether that's fortunate or just sad.

As usual, decisions under cut
fun fact: this pltoline was initially slated to come way earlier because I was like “oh good intro plotline is dick can see some of the skills damian used as an assassin/ damian gets to work in a new context with his old skills”
then it became like. actually plot/emotional beat relevant and I had to insert it where it fit better, afterl ike.... everyone has had time to somewhat get used to each other and we’ve had each of the batfam members in gotham meet damian at least once on screen
you could also tell i had opinions TM about when the characters just buy deathstroke off because the writers are terrified of having him lose a fight
I loved writing this chapter because i love writing all instances where Tim and Damian interact with each other since they get along as well as two cats in a bag.
IIRC Damian refers to Tim as a teenager (at least he does in new 52) but i’m pretty sure in my timeline tim is somewhere around 18 so I find it funny that Damian calls tim a kid or teenager when tim is now a legal adult. this could be because i’m a bitch though (me finding it funny)
I also generally like writing Damian and Cass’s interactions (and the fact that both Dick and Cass think that Damian gets along with the other one better :P)

But? Damian Wayne • Tim Drake
Pairing: Older!Damian Wayne x Plus Size Reader, Tim Drake x Plus Size Reader
Word Count: 4.5k
Summary: you go through a lot because of Tim and Damian but in different ways.
Request: do you listen to asmr boyfriend roleplay (on yt)? Some of them would be great as fics.
Warnings: angst, mentions of cheating, sexual innuendos, language, fluff, a very light mention of violence, light mentions of insecurity, is rain a warning?
A/N: the fact that every fic I’ve written for these characters has the same concept is very funny but I definitely see the appeal and the potential.
Based off these YouTube videos: one two three
❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎
Replaying it didn’t make it easier to digest. After months of plans to move in together and talks about adopting a dog, Tim had broken up with you. He fell for someone else, a person he spoke about often.
She was a coworker of his, a gorgeous woman if anyone asked you. You could never blame him for falling for someone like her, she looked like a model and was a badass agent — it just hurt.
Now you were packing the belongings he kept at your place to send them to him with Alfred. It seemed like he couldn’t only break your heart and walk away, Tim also had to humiliate you. Out of respect, Alfred didn’t ask anything at all, he merely reminded you he was always available for you and wished you a good night.
The TV show playing in front of you wasn’t being processed by your brain. Curled up on the bed, covered with the duvet and a fuzzy blanket, you were desperately trying to conceive some sleep, for your brain to at least calm down so your head would stop throbbing and your eyes twitching.
Startled by tapping on the window, you were forced to swallow the mucus clogging your nose. Coughing, you rolled on the bed to asses who had disturbed you. Upon realizing it was just Robin, you begrudgingly left the bed to open the window.
He entered the room without saying anything, waiting for you to lock the window and close the curtains to take his domino mask off. He always did that, no matter how many times you told him no one would see him.
Damian stared down at the dozens of used Kleenex in the trashcan you kept near the bed. “Why are you upset?”
“I thought you knew...” your voice was strained, throat too tired due to the sobbing.
“I clearly don’t.”
“Tim dumped me for someone else.” Saying it in front of his brother was even worse than you had imagined. “Why are you here if it isn’t because I forgot to pack his brown jacket?”
Damian plopped down on your desk chair, staring directly at you, “patrol was boring and father is with Kyle again.”
Nodding, you went back to your spot on the bed, making yourself comfortable with a pillow on your lap.
“Are you tired?”
You were, but you didn’t want to be alone. “Not at all,” you lied so he wouldn’t dare leave. “Do you want to watch that movie you recommended to me last month?”
“Sure.”
Browsing through different streaming services until you found the film, you saw Damian take parts of his suit off in order to be more comfortable. Surprising you, he sat down on the bed, just beside you, once you had found the title.
You had to admit that paying attention was easier with him around, probably because you didn’t want to annoy him. The film did its job, you finally got distracted — you also fell asleep.
It became a routine, every night he would tap on your window and make you company. Some nights you would stay up until sunrise when you had to go to work, others he would be so tired he’d crash out on your couch, and a few nights you fully rested because his presence made you feel calmer.
Damian and you had never been too close, he and Tim had a complicated relationship and you didn’t want to have problems with your now ex-boyfriend. Now you hoped you had, he wasn’t what you had thought — Damian was nicer than every member of the family made him out to be, funnier, smarter, kinder. You genuinely enjoyed being around him.
He was extremely patient with you. He’d recommend you things to entertain yourself, let you vent when you needed, and without having to do it, would often make sure you had been eating properly because he had observed that between how much you had cried the days after the breakup, your job, and your lack of sleep you were low on energy. Damian had even spent an entire week helping you redecorate the apartment to cheer your spirit.
Being close to Damian meant spending time at the park with Titus, a shit ton of it, and trying new food every weekend, and visiting art galleries which had never been your thing. Being close to Damian also meant worrying because with all of his skills and abilities he was the most stubborn man you had ever met who often fought blindly just to end up in the Batcave's medical wing with a worried Alfred calling you to let you know your friend was hurt but alive.
Most importantly, being close to him meant feeling free to be yourself. You were sure no one would believe you, but it had never been truer.
❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎
Elevators had you tired, ironically. The only reason you hadn’t taken the stairs was that you were carrying a portfolio full of documents, a book bag, your purse, and a coat — everything was wet, just like you. Taking an umbrella would’ve saved you many nuisances, or not walking home from work, but you were too distracted in the morning to remember and now you were paying for it thanks to the rain that came with the nearing seasonal change.
You liked the rain, its sound was soothing, the smell made you aware of your own existence as it awakened your senses, you felt cleansed by it. A lovely thing to experience overall, just not after a long day of work.
Stepping out the second the elevator doors slid open, you took the keys out of your coat with your right hand. You let the straps of your purse slide down to your forearm as you flexed your arm while introducing the key in the lock, when it turned, you sighed out of relief and pushed the door open to finally get inside.
The lights were already on, sizzling echoed around the small apartment and a familiar smell of stir-fried vegetables hit your nose. You hung your coat, letting it drip as much water it naturally could before even daring to put it into the dryer.
Walking further into the apartment, you found Damian in the kitchen. He was wearing the comfiest clothes you had seen him on, sweatpants and a matching sweatshirt with only a pair of white socks.
“What are you doing in here with this weather?” you asked, taking a look at what he was cooking.
“I was bored.”
He always said the same, you always told him you didn’t believe him but he ignored it every single time. Patting his back, you announced you would get changed.
“Don’t take too long, dinner will get cold!”
As much as you were fine with Damian being there( and his cuisine,) you had to wonder why couldn’t he tell you his reasonings for his presence at your place. One thing was him visiting when you were there and another him practically breaking into your apartment — you were open to give him a copy of the keys, to be honest, but you would really appreciate it if he asked.
Dinner was delicious, shared over talk about your day. Damian was avoiding speaking about his day, about his entire week actually — in the past month and a half he hadn’t done anything close to that.
Sat on the couch in order to continue bingeing the show the two of you had started last week, you considered asking him what was going on with him. It partially scared you, the last time a member of that family had acted like that toward you they broke your heart.
Taking a deep breath, you threw your head backward to rest it against the edge of the sofa. Damian watched you, frowning. “Are you okay?”
You answered in a hum. “You?”
“Peachy.”
You moved around the couch, opening your eyes to stare at him. He stared back, the frown slowly disappearing from his face as seconds passed.
“Do you want to talk about it?” you inquired in a timid voice.
“Father is planning on retiring.”
“Oh... are you taking over?”
“Yes.”
You couldn’t picture anyone but him doing it. Dick had been miserable as Batman, Jason wasn’t interested in being like Bruce after everything that had happened, and Cass was finally finding a balance in her life.
“You don’t sound happy about it.”
“I am.”
“But?”
He shook his head, “but nothing. It was a long day.”
For your mental wellbeing, you didn’t press on it. He was clearly hiding something from you but he had the right to do so. It made you feel bad but whatever.
The lights flickered, prompting you to groan. The storm was getting worse, the sky was rumbling with thunder and the lighting striking the city and flashing into the living room through the thin white drapes was as mesmerizing as terrifying.
You mumbled, “can you stay?”
“Yes.”
Damian walked behind you, holding the flashlight from his cellphone to light the path toward your bedroom. You undid the bed quickly so he wouldn’t have to hold the device up for so long, you were sure it wasn’t an inconvenience to him but you still didn’t want to bother him.
He sat down on the bed, just next to you, “I’ll stay here until you fall asleep, then I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“You can sleep next to me if you want.” You felt your face burn up the second the words left your mouth yet you meant them. Oh, you did.
You heard shuffling. Assuming he was taking his sweatshirt off to get into bed, you moved away from the middle of the mattress toward the farthest side from him.
Getting under the duvet, Damian laid on his back. His cologne mixed with his usual smell of vanilla and almonds filled your nostrils as he dropped his head onto the pillow with his arms crossed against his front.
“Dami?” you whispered. He hummed in acknowledgment. “Can you get closer? I’m cold.”
With no hesitation, he turned over in order to lay on his side. Throwing his arm around you from behind, “Is that better?”
You relaxed with your back against his chest, letting a content sigh out. Damian inhaled deeply, taking a whiff off you. He did it again then, finding the smell of your lotion soothing. As he relaxed too, his arm curled around you more comfortably with his hand laying on your plump belly. You placed your hand on top of his, a little nervous yet excited. Being held was a nice feeling, one you had forgotten.
He lifted his fingers, brushing yours. You intertwined your fingers between his, playing with them. He huffed a light breath, caressing the sides of your fingers as you played with his.
Turning around, you got lost into the ethereal way the light from the lamppost entering through the window illuminated Damian’s side profile. He opened his mouth to probably say something but you abruptly shut him up. You did know what overcame you, it was something that had been simmering in you for the past month — the need of being near him, the butterflies that swarmed inside you when he laughed, the peace he brought you. He surprised you by kissing back.
“Shit,” you exclaimed, realizing you had actually done it. “I’m sorry, I—“
“It’s okay,” he interrupted to assure you. He placed his hand on your lower back, leaning in again. “Can we do it again?”
You kissed him again, feeling him tighten his arm around you in order to pull you closer. He deepened the kiss too, prying your mouth open as you held his face in order to ground yourself mentally. Damian laid you on your back, pushing you into the mattress as he straddled you — his lips didn’t leave yours, not even as both of you whimpered while his hands trailed up and down your thighs and yours mapped his back. Full-on making out with your best friend wasn’t how you pictured your shitty day ending, but you weren’t about to complain.
Damian couldn’t keep his lips off your face, enjoying the softness of your cheeks under his mouth and seeing the natural twitches of your nose which made him realize you were actually awake. He hoped he hadn’t awakened you up.
“I thought you were asleep.” The depth of his voice sent a shiver down your spine. “Were you pretending?”
You hummed, “it was hard with all those kisses.”
“I wasn’t kissing you,” he said teasingly, using his index and middle fingers to lift your head in order to continue kissing your face. “Did you sleep well?”
“I did. You?”
He answered, “yes. The best in months.” It felt good knowing you weren’t the only one.
Damian hugged you close with both arms, exhaling happily, “you’re very warm.”
Hiding your face in his chest, you hugged back. You didn’t know what it meant, or the meaning behind the gesture of still cuddling in bed with the guy you had started developing feelings for mere weeks after breaking up with his brother. But it didn’t matter, you were comfortable in his arms and happy with seemingly having cracked his shell.
You had to ask, however. “Did I overstep last night?”
“No, I told you it was okay.”
“Oh, yeah.”
He pulled away enough to fully face you. You attempted to ignore him, shifting under his gaze. Damian licked his lips, “did I make you think otherwise?”
You shook your head, the sound the friction of the side of your face made against the pillow too loud for your liking. “I just... I don’t want to ruin our friendship.”
“Is this ruining our friendship?”
You stuttered, “I— I think so?” You weren’t sure.
“I want to ruin it,” he stated, eyes fixed on yours, “more than anything.”
Your eyes dropped to his mouth as he said it, his full lips tempting you again. You were scared of the lack of guilt you were feeling, but you happily gave in. “Let’s ruin it, then.”
Smiling brightly, he dipped his face in order to kiss you. You were certain you would never get over his soft lips, the warmth of his breath, the firmness of his touch, his intoxicating scent, his silky voice... God, he truly had you smitten.
Nuzzling against your shoulder, he intertwined his legs with yours. “I don’t want to get out of bed yet.”
You giggled. “Then don’t.”
Damian decided he could do that, just cuddle his favorite person in the world until something came up, maybe.
❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎
You had been typing on your computer, as music harmonized your den-office when the doorbell rang. Looking at the time to try and guess who could be visiting you on a Tuesday noon, you pushed yourself back, away from the desk, in order to stand up.
Dot, the Labrador you had adopted no long ago wiggled her tail from her spot near the couch as you crossed the living room. She loved laying there, she had a good view of the door and could jump on you the second you got home.
You regretted opening the door the second you faced your visitor. Tim Drake smiled timidly at you, “hi, (Y/N).”
“I— uh, hello?” You tilted your head, confused as to what he was doing there, who had given him the address and why had he thought he would be welcome.
“Can I come in?”
You lifted your index finger. “Just a second.”
Opening the guest-closet, you took a pair of slippers out and padded back toward the door. Tim looked down at the slippers you were offering to him, then at his shoes — as he did, he realized you weren’t wearing any footwear.
He complied, taking his shoes off and sliding his feet into the slippers. When he asked where to put the pair of footwear he had just taken off, you pointed to a mat next to the door, just under the key holders. You closed the front door as he dropped his shoes.
“Wow,” he exclaimed, eyes taking in as much of the space around him as possible, “your taste has changed! How long has it been?”
“A little over a year and a half.”
“We really need to catch up!”
You motioned for him to sit down on the couch. Dot curiously stared at him when he did so while you asked, “do you want anything to drink?”
“Coffee would be fine,” he answered just to have more time to examine the living room. It was extremely luxurious, with a vaulted ceiling and oversized windows.
Curious about the overall design of the penthouse, and how good your job had to be for you to be able to pay for such living arrangements, he followed you toward the kitchen where you were preparing his coffee. It was as full of luxury as the living room, with stainless steel appliances, granite counter-tops and a breakfast bar the size of your previous apartment’s entire kitchen.
“How have you been?” He asked, sliding his palm against the marbled breakfast bar.
“I’ve been great.” You gave him a tight smile, placing the sugar bowl onto the bar.
“I’m glad. How’s your family?”
“They’re great, thank you.” Out of courtesy, you asked, “how have you been?”
He cleared his throat and took a deep breath, “well, after I abruptly broke up with you, from which I’m very sorry because I was a dick, my girlfriend broke up with me too...”
“I’m sorry.” You genuinely felt for him, being dumped out of the blue wasn’t something you wished upon anyone. Pouring coffee into a mug, you handed it to him.
“It’s okay,” he smiled openly, nodding as a thank you for the coffee and dropping a couple of spoonfuls of sugar into the beverage, “I’m over it. I moved to Europe when Bruce said he needed someone to supervise the branch of the company there, the drama wasn’t good for my spirit.”
“Why are you back? It’s not like Gotham has changed.”
“My best friend is getting married.”
You hummed, finding estrange that you hadn’t been invited to the wedding.
“You have a new boy or anything?”
You stuttered, dropping a teabag into a cup, “perhaps.”
“Come on, (N/N), tell me! I won’t get mad.” He deviated his gaze. “I’m over you and everything.”
You confessed then, pouring hot water on top of the herbs, “I am dating Damian.”
“Which Damian?”
You waited for your ex-boyfriend to swallow the sip of coffee he had just taken and took the opportunity to have a sip of tea to calm your nerves. “Wayne,” you explained.
“You’re dating my little brother?!” He whisper-shouted. You simply nodded. “For how long?”
“Eleven months.”
“So what? You ran into his arms as soon as I broke up with you?!”
You didn’t appreciate the tone he was using or what he was insinuating. Definitely not when he had cheated on you without for once thinking of sparing your feelings.
“Damian was there for me when no one else had the time, it just happened.”
“I thought you were going to stay away from my family,” he reproached you.
In all honesty, you had thought the same thing. As much as Alfred had told you to call him if you needed anything when he went to pick up the belongings Tim kept at your place, you hadn’t planned on doing it — but that same night, when Damian arrived, tired after a long patrol, and playing dumb by saying he had just dropped by because he was bored you decided you didn’t have to, you didn’t want to. Eventually, you evolved, as many things had after that night, not for Damian nor because of him but next to him, with his patience and support.
“I can’t believe you,” he shook his head.
“I thought you were over me.”
“I’m not jealous! But you deserve better than him — you’re so pretty and nice and he’s selfish and mean and depends on Bruce for everything.”
That didn’t sound like Damian at all. “Maybe you don’t know your brother.”
“You’re telling me he’s changed? Because I don’t believe it.”
You couldn’t be a testimony of Damian’s change when you had never seen the version Tim described, but you could definitely say Damian was everything you had always wanted in a partner and more — he was what you needed, what you loved.
“You still can do way, waaaaaay better than him,” Tim interpreted your silence as a confirmation of Damian’s change.
“Like who, Timothy?”
“Like me!” he exploded, clenching his eyes shut for a couple seconds to control his breathing. “I’ll go straight to the point: I miss you. I came back to get you back, there’s no wedding. I was too stupid to see what I had when I had it, I know, but I’ve changed,” he assured, “I have a new philosophy, I’m surrounded by better people. I’m not blind anymore.”
“Neither I am.”
He ignored your comment and went on, “let’s just start again. In another country, a new house. We’ll adopt as many puppies as you want!” Tim took an envelope out, “I have two plane tickets here for tomorrow. One is yours.”
The front door unlocked loudly, prompting both you and Dot to crane your necks in order to stare at it. Damian pushed it open, shoes in hand and blazer draping over his forearm.
You saw him focus on the pair of shoes on the mat for mere seconds before Dot happily wiggled her tail at him as she approached him. Damian threw his blazer to the nearest couch, quickly undoing his tie which followed suit, before hunching down to pet the little dog.
Out of habit, you left the kitchen to walk toward him and greet him. He stood back up, naturally towering over you and kissing you softly, “hello, beloved.”
You giddily smiled, forgetting you weren’t alone, “hi, handsome. I missed you.” Wrapping your arms around his waist, you inhaled his scent. God, you had truly missed him. Sleeping without him wasn’t the same, nor having to rely on music or the tv for the place to not feel alone. Two days of not hearing his voice not waking up tangled up with him were too much sometimes.
Damian put his hands on your waist, sighing at finally being able to touch your soft body again. “I missed you more.” He leaned downward, placing his lips on yours again.
“(Y/N),” Tim pleaded from behind you, making you jump.
Damian parted from you, looking past your shoulder and directly at his brother. “Drake. What are you doing in here?”
You stepped to the side, opting for opening the terrace’s door so Dot could have some fun outside. In the background, as you leant against the doorway and watched the little dog sniff the terrace, you heard Tim say Alfred had given him the address. Oh, sweet Alfred, always trying to keep the family together.
Turning around, you saw them both sit down in front of each other in the living room. Trying to keep them from fighting, you walked back into the room and sat down next to your boyfriend.
Tim immediately told you, “please don’t throw it all to waste for him.”
Both Damian and you frowned. He put his hand on your thigh, like he had done the first time he had taken you to a business dinner as his date, like he had grown used to do under any table. It was your favorite gesture, he wasn’t a big fan of PDA but he still made sure to always be touching you — the fact that he loved your thighs when you had always been insecure due to their size was a nice addition.
“I’m over you, Tim. Damian is my boyfriend, and with who I want to be.”
“He’ll never love you like I do, he can’t.” Tim’s tone was the harshest you had heard from him.
He was right, though. Damian would never love you like Tim did, that was the whole point. You didn’t want what Tim had to offer, the kind of love he could give — you were past that, you had been for a long time now and it felt amazing.
Tired and spent, Damian hugged you extremely tightly while cuddling that night, almost to the point where you struggled to breathe. Wiggling in his arms in order to turn around and face him, you wrapped your arms around him as best as you could.
“What’s wrong, Dami?”
“Nothing.”
You dropped yourself onto your back, struggling to bring him in but ultimately succeeding. Damian sighed, shifting to be more comfortable as he laid his head on your bare chest.
“I don’t know,” he mumbled. Damian inhaled your scent, sighing in content — he was in his safe place. “I sometimes forget not everyone sees me the way you do.”
You supposed he was referring to Tim’s assumptions about him. “Does it bother you?”
“Only when they use it to try putting you against me.”
“You know they would never succeed, right?” You needed him to be aware of that.
“I do.”
“But?”
He moved to hover over you, fitting his legs between yours as he propped himself up with his elbows. “But it’s different when your ex does it. And no, I’m not jealous, I do trust you.”
You wrapped your arms around his neck. You understood what he meant, perfectly so. Damian had been there to pick up the pieces, he had helped you glue them together and even taught you to tweak them so the final piece would look better — with that, beautiful things had bloomed, but in between many tears had been shed on your behalf and many confessions had been made regarding your feelings in general; sprinkle in how hard it had been to process the fact that you had fallen for each other and you could understand where he was coming from. There was a piece of Damian in you, and there was a piece of you in him; at every level.
“It’s not relevant anymore, love,” you reminded him.
Damian caught your lips in a tender kiss, humming. “I just wish he wasn’t back.”
“He’ll be gone by tomorrow. And if he isn’t, I don’t care.” You started playing with his hair, unconsciously running your fingers up and down through his locks. “But I don’t want you to have a bad relationship with your brother because of me.”
“We’ve spoken about that.”
Damian had never been able to get along with Tim, his relationship with Dick was great and he had even built one with Jason, Cass was his favorite, and he had gotten to meet with Helena a few times. However, his resentment toward Tim heightened when you two started frequenting each other — he seemed to now despise him.
You tilted your head to pepper kisses over his jaw. “You’ll manage, Damian. You ignored him for years.”
Your boyfriend sighed dramatically, letting his weight gradually fall on top of you. Placing his hand on your cheek, he smirked before burying his face in your neck. “Besides,” Damian mumbled, “he’s not the one keeping you up tonight.”

Books read in September
I had a moment of intense self-centredness and, internally, wailed: Why isn’t the world filled with more books that appeal exactly to me???
I’ve concluded that it’s like I have an inner story-troll sitting inside me shouting: Tell me a story! I try to appease it by presenting it with books, one at a time, and seeing how it reacts.
Favourite cover: Flyaway.
Reread: The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley. (I also reread From All False Doctrine at least twice.)
Also read: The Disastrous Début of Agatha Tremain by Stephanie Burgis and Snow Day by Andrea K Höst.
Still reading: The Time-Traveling Popcorn Ball by Aster Glenn Gray and The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett,
Next up: I have borrowed The Other Side of the Sky by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, Taking Down Evelyn Tait by Poppy Nwosu, and Between Silk and Cyanide: A Code Maker’s War, 1941-45 by Leo Marks. And maybe I’ll finally get around to The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams?
*
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakroborty (narrated by Soneela Nankani): I think this Middle East-inspired fantasy was just not the story I was in the headspace for -- it was longer, with more complicated worldbuilding and fewer answers. Possibly I’d have followed the political intrigue of Daevabad better had I read this in one gulp (I got halfway through the 20-hour-long audiobook before it was due back and I read other books before picking up the ebook). I liked the two protagonists, enough that I’m curious about what happens to them next, but the second book is 23 hours long and undoubtedly won’t resolve everything either. Maybe another day.
Tuyo by Rachel Neumeier: Ryo is left as a “tuyo” -- a sacrifice to be killed by an enemy -- as a sign that his tribe will withdraw from the Ugaro’s war with the Lau. But his captor doesn’t want to kill him, he wants Ryo to help him stop the war. Neumeier effectively creates tension between people who are polite, honest and honourable, and shows an intriguing relationship, defined by mutual respect, fealty and something more familial. There’s also some unusual magically-defying-physics-as-we-know-it worldbuilding but apparently I was far more interested in the character dynamics. I enjoyed this. Sequel, please?
From All False Doctrine by Alice Degan: My favourite book this year! Toronto, August 1925. Elsa Nordqvist, who hopes to write her MA thesis on a recently-discovered Greek manuscript, is at the beach with a friend when they meet two foster-brothers. This meeting deftly sets up everything which follows. The cover says “A Love Story” but this is also like a cross between a Golden-Age mystery novel and a fairytale retelling, with bonus academia and Anglicanism. I really like how much these characters value their friendships, their lively, intelligent and often honest conversations, and the way the romance unfolds. It also feels like a story written just for me and a hard one to review because my reaction has been very personal.
The Haunting of Tram Car 015 by P. Djèlí Clark (narrated by Julian Thomas): Set in the same city as A Dead Djinn in Cairo, this novella follows two agents from the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities as they investigate a possessed tram car. The world-building is vivid and cleverly, thoughtfully, imaginative. But, perhaps because of the mood I’m in and because this story isn’t interested in exploring the personal lives of its detectives, I have no feelings about this.
The Angel of Crows by Katherine Addison: Sherlock Holmes wingfic involving Jack the Ripper murders. Not what I’m looking for in a Holmes retelling. But I was sufficiently intrigued by something the author wrote. I really like Crow and Dr Doyle (arguably more than their original counterparts). My interest wavered a bit during the second half. It closely mimics the style and structure of the original mysteries in many ways and that’s not my favourite style. I wanted fewer cases to solve, and more of Crow and Doyle interactions. I liked the ending, enough to be glad that I hadn’t given up halfway through.
Making Friends with Alice Dyson by Poppy Nsowu: Australian YA. Alice plans to spend her final year of high school staying invisible and studying hard, but is thrown into the spotlight after someone posts a video of her dancing with Teddy Taualai. I loved how intensely this captures Alice’s emotions and perspective, and how the story explores that people have different emotions, perspectives and needs. Alice seems to me like someone who might be on the autism spectrum -- and whether or not that’s what the author intended, it’s great to see characters like her represented. I wish it had unpacked her relationship with her parents more, but that didn’t negate how much I enjoyed this.
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han (narrated by Laura Knight Keating): I can’t remember why, after I read To all the boys I’ve loved before and P.S. I still love you in 2017, I decided against reading the third book. It turned out to be my favourite. I loved it! I had a different experience of finishing high school and applying for university, but I find Lara Jean’s perspective intensely relatable: she has strong opinions about aesthetics; she’s nostalgic, introspective, stressed by uncertainty; she enjoys spending time at home with her family. I liked how this book captures her wonder at the intimacy of knowing another person well, and how, although she sometimes worries about their future, she has very few doubts about Peter himself. I haven’t come across very many YA novels in which a teenage girl is so secure being in a relationship.
The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley:  After her sister dies, Eva stays with family friends in Cornwall, where she and Katrina spent summers years ago. I wasn’t expecting time-travel. I like time-travel stories, and I like how Kearsley handles it here. Eva’s choices make sense, given her situation, and the story emphasises that, even though she cannot control when she travels in time, there are still many choices she can actively make. So Eva becomes fascinated with 1715, because of the people she meets there and the relationships they develop... but I wanted to spend more time in the present-day Trelowarth, with its rose gardens and new tea room.
Flyaway by Kathleen Jennings: After she receives a mysterious note, nineteen year old Bettina flouts her mother’s rules for ladylike behaviour and embarks on a roadtrip with a couple of forgotten friends in search of her brothers, who disappeared three years ago. I loved some of the descriptions, especially seeing a rural Australian setting for this sort of fantasy. Jennings creates a wonderfully eerie atmosphere and the mystery kept me reading. However, the folktale parts of the story are dark, uncomfortably so. Very successfully Gothic, just ultimately not really my brand of Gothic.
The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan: There’s something so incredibly soft about this romance -- yet at the same time, it’s about two people who work fiercely towards their goals, worry about things, and are acutely aware of the discrimination they and other they love face as Chinese people in late 19th century England. Chloe and Jeremy’s relationship is characterised by banter and gentle teasing that reveals just well they know and accept and care about each other. Moreover, they have friends and relatives -- and a community -- who are supportive. I really enjoyed reading this and appreciated how low-angst it is.
The Threefold Tie by Aster Glenn Gray: Very tender. The characters convinced me that they were capable of communicating honesty with each other and making an unconventional relationship work. I liked the prose, which is no great surprise.
Hamster Princess: Whiskerella by Ursula Vernon (aka T. Kingfisher): This time, adventure finds Harriet at home: her parents are throwing a masked ball so she can “meet some nice young princes without terrifying them”. But the princes are all preoccupied with a beautiful stranger, and Harriet is distracted by the mystery: who is this hamster, how did she get in without an invitation and what sort of magic is behind her glass slippers?  I think this is my favourite of Harriet’s adventures (so far). I loved the humour in this one.
Echo North by Joanna Ruth Meyer: When Echo finds her missing father unconscious and half-frozen in the woods, she is given a choice by the white wolf. A retelling of “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” with elements from “Beauty and the Beast” and “Tam Lin” thrown in, this has so many things which appeal to me, including an unexpected and wonderful library. Yet I found it frustrating and slow; the prose and the characters are rather straightforward, and I predicted nearly all the twists (bar the finale). But I believe that this tale could delight a younger, or a less critical reader.
The Disastrous Début of Agatha Tremain by Stephanie Burgis: In the two years since she turned sixteen and dismissed her governess, Agatha has been free to disregard ladylike behaviour, studying the books in her father’s library and teach herself magic. But then her aunt arrives and insists upon Agatha making a social début. This novelette is another story that I suspect I’d like more if it had been longer, if some of its ideas had been expanded upon and some of the relationships been given more space to develop. Agatha’s aunt and her motivations were unexpected, and I wasn’t entirely comfortable or satisfied with how that was resolved.
Snow Day by Andrea K. Höst: This novelette takes place after the Touchstone trilogy, more specifically after In Arcadia. Two outsiders get to see Cass and her family on Snow Day, and reveal a bit about their upbringing on Kolar.  This feels very much like fanfiction which just happens to be written by the author. It is fun to see familiar characters through others’ eyes and the expanded worldbuilding is interesting, but as a narrative, it seemed somewhat incomplete. (Maybe she’s planning something more with these characters?)

Flameo, Batman!
AO3 Characters: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain (Plus minor Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, and Alfred Pennyworth)
Summary :Bruce was kidnapped. Bruce Wayne was kidnapped, which means he can’t save himself because everyone still thinks he is a harmless non-bender. Incidentally, it is also why Dick is here in Gotham, as Nightwing, staking out this warehouse.
A/N: Written for batfamweek 2020, day 1! The prompt was meta AU, but I wanted to play with ATLA AU for so long that I decided ATLA AU was close enough to them having meta powers. There’s also some overprotectiveness here, so, I guess, you can count that? Anyways, enjoy!
title is, of course, from ATLA
Bruce was kidnapped. Bruce Wayne was kidnapped, which means he can’t save himself because everyone still thinks he is a harmless non-bender. Incidentally, it is also why Dick is here in Gotham, as Nightwing, staking out this warehouse.
Even Babs, with all her Oracle magic, can only narrow the possible sites to five different locations, and, as Damian is not old enough to do a stakeout alone, Dick came to Gotham to help with the stakeout. When the almighty Oracle can only narrow the possible sites of holding to five locations instead of her usual one-shot hit, you know that these people are at least good at what they do. They even have all their possible holding sites away from large bodies of water, which tells Dick two things about these kidnappers. One: they did enough research and have enough sense of self-preservation to know that the Bats have waterbenders in their ranks, and two: they do not have any waterbenders in their own ranks, or at least not one good enough to offset the advantage they would be giving the Bats by staying close to water.
“Is it time to burst in yet?” Jason’s voice said from Dick’s comm. “I’m getting tired of waiting.”
“I thought it was firebenders who are rumored not to have patience, Hood, not waterbenders,” Damian retorts.
“Hey too, Robin! I’m a waterbender!” Stephanie cries out. Dick really should not have given all of them the same frequency for the comms, because he knows this would happen, but they would eventually figure out which frequency the others use anyways, and this would also happen. Dick decided to just save them, and him, the trouble and gave all of them the same frequency. At least this way he won’t have to switch between frequencies before they all collectively decide on which frequency to use.
“Tt. My point exactly.”
Dick sighs. “No, it’s not time to burst in yet. Agent A is going to give the signal, remember? We’re trying the nice way first.”
Jason scoffs. It is really amazing how he could get that to transfer over the comms. “Why are we still doing the nice way first? When, in your nearly two decades of kidnapping experiences, have the nice way ever worked?”
Jason does have a point, but Dick is not going to tell him that. The nice way, which is trying to negotiate with the kidnappers, only worked in about never. But the nice way is how the Waynes’ reputation of being a harmless rich family stays intact, and so they are going to always do the nice way first.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you see it, Alfred’s voice crackles through the comm at that particular moment. “They do not accept our, frankly, generous offer. It seems we have to use force after all.”
“Ha!” Jason cries out. “Told you so, N!”
“Yeah, yeah, Hood,” Dick says. “Everyone knows what they’re supposed to be doing?”
There is a smattering of agreements from everyone, which Dick expected. His siblings may bicker and generally cause havoc that Dick would then have to sort out, but they do their job with a professionalism that is really unparalleled, especially when it is someone of their own on the line.
“Alright then. Everyone has to go in at the same time, or this won’t work.  If you have the jackpot, call it out on the comms. If you do not have the jackpot, immediately go and help the person has. Clear on that?”
Another smattering of agreements. Okay then, Operation-Save-Bruce-From-A-Kidnapping-Attempt Number too many to count is a go. “On my count. One, two, three!”
Dick hears glass crashing from one of the lines. Why do his family have to be so dramatic? But the best way into Dick’s warehouse from where he’s perching now is through the window, so Dick really doesn’t have much to stand on here.
Dick jumps from his perch, bends the trace amount of metal on his suit to his toes, protecting them from broken glass, and breaks the glass window. At the same time, he wills the earth underneath his legs to raise up to meet him. People don’t expect Nightwing to be an earthbender because his fighting style is more like those of airbenders, so sometimes Dick doesn’t start bending until the very end of a bust, just to give himself that extra advantage. But these guys know about waterbenders within the Bats’ ranks, which a lot of people don’t know, so Dick is pretty sure they knew already that Nightwing is an earthbender. Might as well use it to his advantage.
“Mine’s not it,” Jason says through the comms.
“Not it.” That is Cass
“Not here either.” Steph.
Dick scans the warehouse he is in. Thirty men, armed and armored. Their armor is not even metal, which goes to show that this group really knows about the Bat’s bending. All of them are aiming to where Dick is right now.
“I’m it,” Dick says into his comm while changing the shape of the boulder he just ripped from the earth. He bends it so that it would cover him from the thirty guns all firing at him while allowing him to look around for Bruce.
“You should have said so sooner, Nightwing.”
“Damnit, Robin, I’m driving. You’re not old enough!”
“And your driving skills are not up to par, Red, so I will be driving to get us to Nightwing’s location as soon as possible.”
This is Dick’s life. Trying to shut down a fight between his brothers while he is literally being shot at. “Robin, let Red drive.”
“Tt.”
Dick can tell that Damian is not entirely pleased with that order, but thankfully he doesn’t say anything else into the comms, which Dick took as him acquiescing to the order. That allows Dick to actually focus on his job, which is finding Bruce inside this warehouse.
Even though the men did not wear metal armors, they somehow forget their guns and bullets are still made of metal, which Dick can bend. It’s really lucky that Dick is the one who found where Bruce is being held because none of the others can bend metal.
From behind his boulder, Dick allows his senses to find all the guns in the room. Then, he jams them. Dick lets the final round of bullets hit his boulder and then listens to the curses that all the men are letting out. It’s really satisfying when the perps realize that their guns are not working anymore.
There he is. Dick spots Bruce handcuffed to a pillar at the very end of the warehouse. If he were being Batman, Bruce could have easily picked the lock for that handcuff. But he is not, and it is Dick’s job to save him. Divested of their guns, these men should not be that much of a challenge.
Dick goes out of this protective boulder, and smiles. Yeah, these men look terrified with their guns out of commission. This should be fun.
*
Dick is halfway through fighting the men when he hears a motorcycle coming into the warehouse. Jason, most likely. His place is the closest to Dick’s.
Gunshots. Jason, confirmed. Dick can’t feel bullets flying through the air, so Jason must be using rubber bullets. That’s nice. Dick is hoping to avoid a conversation with Bruce after this is all over. (He does not have the time to check which bullets Jason is carrying before they have to move. If Bruce knew about that, there would be conversations to be had, and Dick doesn’t want that when he already has to work twice as hard tomorrow because he misses a night in Bludhaven.)
Jason being there does help, though, because now Dick can almost reach Bruce. It’s really annoying to have to ‘rescue’ someone who is perfectly capable of rescuing themselves but can’t because they are keeping their identity intact. Dick should know, he’s been in both roles. Dick glances up to Bruce, trying to silently tell him to be patient and let Dick come to him, when he is tackled by Jason. Jason, who took the knife that was aiming for Dick.
“What the hell, Hood? I knew that knife was coming, I could feel it. It’s made of ceramic.”
“No thanks, N? I’m hurt.” Jason lets go of Dick to stand back up. “Ouch, the knife just went in deeper.”
“No shit, Hood. Wait, why is everyone on the ground already?”
There is no one left attacking the two of them when Dick could have sworn that there are at least several perps still standing when Jason tackled him to the ground. Then he sees Bruce, out of the handcuff, striking the last of the men.
Of course it’s Bruce. Dick should have known that Bruce would not be able to sit still once he saw one of them injured. It’s really sweet of him, but if he keeps doing it, then they might as well just threw the whole ‘secret identity’ thing to the garbage. Everyone is going to know that Bruce Wayne is capable of a really scary hand-to-hand, and then questions will be asked. And it was Bruce who insisted on the secret identity thing in the first place.
“Are you okay?” Bruce asks.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine, old man.”
“Agent A won’t be happy about the knife wound, Hood,” Dick says.
“As long as he still heals it, I’m okay with that,” Jason shrugs. Then cries out, because shrugging when you have a knife in your shoulder is really not a good idea.
Dick sighs. “Okay, you,” he points to Bruce, “are staying here until the police arrive and they can take your statement, which I don’t know why they bother, at this point. I’ll stay here with you until the police arrive, let them see me for a bit, and then leave. You,” Dick turns to Jason, “are hitching a ride with whoever is here next to the Cave, and you are going to let Agent A heals that shoulder. Okay?”
It is then that Cass and Steph come to the warehouse. They were not stationed near each other, at least not near enough that they could justify coming to Dick’s station together. Worse, each of their stations is further away from this warehouse than Tim and Damian’s station and they still manage to reach this place, together, earlier than Tim and Damian.
“Why are you here together?” Dick asks Cass and Steph.
They both shrug, but Steph actually elaborates. “From the sound of it, you two were handling this well enough. So me and Cass decides to just meet up and come here together, to avoid the disaster Robin duo.” Steph stops then, realizing that neither Tim nor Damian is present. “Wait, are we still earlier than the two of them?”
Dick sighs again. “Batgirl, take Hood to the Cave to get healed by Agent A. Black Bat, please keep an eye on Hood and make sure he actually gets to the Cave.”
Steph mock-salutes him. “You got it, boss.” Then, she frowns. “Wait, you’re not the boss anymore.”
“Batgirl, please?”
“Fine, fine! And you say I don’t do enough for this family.”
“Literally no one ever says that,” Jason mutters.
“Just, get him to Agent A. Please, BB?” Dick changes his tactics.
Cass smiles. It is not the smile that Dick wanted to see. That smile promises havoc. Why are his siblings like this again?
“A good time to start learning healing, huh, Batgirl?” Jason taunts.
“Learn healing yourself, Hood! You’re also a waterbender!”
“Enough! Come on! Just, go to the Cave and ask Agent A to heal you! It’s literally that simple, Hood. You don’t even have to do it if you had just let me handle that knife.”
“Is this the repayment I get for saving your life?”
“You didn’t save my life. I can literally feel that knife coming towards me. I’m an earthbender and that knife is made of ceramic, which is earth.”
“And yet you didn’t bend it away from you until I have to intercept it.”
Dick puts his hand to his head. Then, turning to Bruce, he says, “This is your fault. You’re the one who decides to give me siblings.”
Bruce’s face is deadpan. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Nightwing. How could I, Bruce Wayne, a harmless non-bender, be able to decide who becomes your siblings?”
Steph is the first one to laugh, but Jason and Cass are not far behind. Dick would be the first to admit that Bruce being sarcastic is absolutely hilarious, especially while he is being Brucie Wayne, but it does not help Dick in this situation. Which, come to think of it, is saving Bruce from a situation he could have easily saved himself from.
Screw it. Dick is washing his hands of this situation. “You know what, Mr. Wayne? Since this holding place has been secured, I’m going to leave you to the capable hands of Batgirl and Black Bat.” Dick smiles sweetly, which he is sure that Bruce knows is fake. “I’ll let them deal with the GCPD for a change. Oh, and I’m sure the Robins are going to be here any minute, and they are also very capable crimefighters. Between the four of them, I’m sure you are in good hands, Mr. Wayne. Good night.”
Dick can see the panic in Bruce’s eyes. Steph is notorious for trying to get a rise out of Bruce, and with Bruce being in the Brucie Wayne identity, he would have no way of reigning Steph in. Cass would just help, because Cass is sometimes evil that way. Add the two feuding Robins in the mix, and Bruce had just gotten himself a very explosive mix indeed.
“Wait, Nightwing…”
“Good night, Mr. Wayne. Hood, if you’re not coming with me right now, I’m going to leave you to ride that motorcycle alone back to the Cave with that knife still in your shoulders.”
“Jeez, alright ‘Wing, I’m coming.”
Alfred would find himself with, at the very least, two patients tonight. God knows what Damian and Tim have gotten themselves into. Well, they are Bruce’s problem now. After Jason has been taken care of, Dick is going to ask Alfred to work his amazing healing bending on him, because this mission with his family is really making his headache flare again.
(At this rate, either Jason or Steph really needs to learn healing, because poor Alfred is always being asked to heal something or another.)

jaytim Actors/Celebrity AU
Here I go with another plot idea I don’t know if I’ll get around to writing *sigh* I wish my fingers moved as fast as my brain did when it comes to plotting out stories...
Anyhow, so here it is:
Actors AU
Jason Todd is a well-known actor who grew up poor in Crime Alley; when they reopened the theater when he was a teen he got a part-time job there, sweeping floors, working the box office, all the crummy shifts and such; could never afford acting school, but the theater had a community class like once every two weeks or something;
from observing the actors and plays, and just generally hanging around a lot he manages to work his way up/get opportunities to get on stage; he eventually secures a scholarship to go to the UK and study acting classically; over the years he develops his own signature acting style, which is largely based on improvisation; he has his own way of doing things, can be hard to work with, but has some kind of luck that just makes everything he is a part out turn out amazing/talk of the town;
when he’s in his teens he lands a part in a hit drama that suddenly catapults him to fame—although he remains notoriously picky about what parts he plays and is more interested in the art than the fame side of things; he’s a very private person, has on occasion punched paparazzi for following him and his boyfriend/girlfriend of the time around, donates the majority of his money to children’s charities and such, etc.
Tim Drake is the son and adopted son of silver-screen royalty; his parents were both actors who became well-known producer / talk-show hosts; kind of larger than life figures and he always felt overwhelmed around them; as a kid he expressed interest in being an actor when he grew up, but got a condescending “oh, but you’re so smart, you could do anything else” sort of answer and never really brought it up again because clearly his parents didn’t think he could do it (had made self esteem issues, yeah?);
anyway, he grew up neighbors to the Wayne Family, family of a long line of actors, and the latest heir to that name Bruce is also a bit of a scandalous figure because he adopts children like crazy (basically he’s Angelina jolie); so Tim grew up neighbors and friends with Dick, Cass, Steph, Damian and Duke, all of whom are celebrities in their own right (maybe not necessarily actors, but definitely well-known);
and he’s a secret theater fanboy, watches all the classics, knows all the lines to things, pretends to be his favorite actors—especially a certain Jason Todd who he idolized from the first moment he breaks out with that drama role and follows his career obsessively, just basically either wants to be him or be with him.
when Tim’s parents died in a plane crash, Bruce was named guardian of him so Tim goes to live with him; And the Waynes are all super supportive of him; Timmy wants to be an actor? Then by god he’ll be an actor; they’ll find him an agent and help him get shows and everything; they don’t even care if he’s good or not, if he wants to do it, they’re supportive
And at first the only thing he manages to get booked for is Teen heartthrob roles and voice acting; and most people say it’s just because who his parents are, and he never really gets a chance to show his talent, but it’s a foot in the door
Until he lands a role in a major action flick; (I dunno, something like Maze Runner or Hunger Games or something) and it turns out he’s actually a good actor; like an amazing method actor (and also not too hard to look at); thus begins his career—at the same time that Jason Todd is majorly injured (stunt action scene gone wrong, he ends up in rehab for 18 months recovering, people start to think he’s dead or whatever)
By the time Jason comes back to the world of acting, he decides to go back to his roots on stage; maybe something on Broadway; he’s all set up to take on a new role, only to hear that he’s lost out to a certain Tim Drake (whose only dream has been to follow in his idol’s footsteps and do stage acting in a certain show at least once), but hey, the role opposite is free if you want it?
Jason is rather resentful of being replaced by some kid that he only knows is a Disney channel staple because Roy’s daughter Lian watches that stuff religiously; he doesn’t intend to cut him any slack, because in his view, you have to work your way up and earn your privilege on certain stages and he doesn’t think Tim’s managed that.
They meet. Jason’s defensive and a jerk to Tim; Tim is heartbroken that his idol doesn’t like him.
Cue weeks/months of tension and rivalry; Jason grudgingly admitting that Tim actually has some talent; Tim getting to know the side of Jason that the public never get to see; slowly, they start to work together and get closer…which is, of course, when Tim’s adopted family starts putting in appearances and making things hella complicated. And of course there’s the press, who Tim has gotten so used to being followed around by and in his life, but Jason’s having a hard time of it because he’s always done his best to keep private. And the press keep showing them together, always talking “Bromance”, and Jason is way irritated about this…and then he begins to realize he’s more irritated about the fact that it’s just a bromance because he’s started to realize he and Tim have a connection deeper than that
They end up embarking on a relationship (after a lot of false starts, mutual pining, Wayne shenanigans, etc.). And it’s really, really good.
Except Tim’s agents and reps are on his back to keep the relationship under wraps, because a large part of his image as teen heartthrob / Hollywood hunk is based on the fact of him being straight and they’re worried he’ll lose out on opportunities and such if it comes out that he’s in a relationship with a guy; which tim thinks is bullshit, but he’s signed on to a really important role just now and the guy in charge is huge homophobe and has been known to make the lives of people he doesn’t like miserable to the point where they quit…and breaking a contract with him is practically a “You’ll Never Work In This Town Again” sentence. So Tim and Jason agree to keep things under wraps for a while.
Which causes tensions between them for obvious reasons.
Maybe throw in Jason getting a stalker (Joker, anyone?) and there being a major confrontation between him, where Tim comes to his rescue, or something happens to out them and then they both have to figure out what’s going to happen from them.
Anyhow, that’s all I have for now, but I was thinking about that this morning. Don’t even know why I suddenly was thinking of actors or anything.
I don’t actually know much about theater/acting/celebrities except what I see on TV, but this is what’s been in my head :P
