I think the "Bruce is a good dad" convo misses out on how different children can get different dads even when it's the same guy.
Jason doesn't get the same dad. When Bruce flings Tim over a disagreement, it's a sign that he's worse than before and somethings up. When he does it to Jason, it's a Tuesday.

I do have to admit that, like, all of the many posts trying to frame C3 as a radical work speaking truth to power and challenging status quo with direct references to queer theory and leftist political critiques come across to me as having the same energy as fandom criticizing Steven Universe and She-Ra through a postcolonial lens
#i.e. it is an inherently ridiculous thing to do because the work isn't up to the task of bearing the weight of that analysis#inb4: I know popular works and mass entertainment and children's media and whatever else can be analyzed seriously that's not my point#This is more about like how ridiculous of an energy this is to have in fandom#It also has the energy of insisting Infinity War should've been nominated for Best Picture#Critical Role things

In all honesty I think a lot about how seriously Callum takes the concept of family and what he assigns to that vs his own inherent nervousness about whether he is family to someone else because he doesn't want to impose (expect more) than he thinks someone is willing to give.
Like Ezran is his family so he's always comfortable with him, and we quickly see Rayla be added to that tier. Family to him equals immense priority and levels of care/nurturing and he gives both of those things a lot of weight and a lot of his time/energy/focus
But it takes time for Harrow to be someone Callum comfortably calls family on account of not being sure if Harrow felt that way, not Callum being unsure of his own feelings. But once he knows, we see it settle and take root
This is also why he's such a stickler with Rayla in early s1. He considers her a friend, but she's not making any first moves — she's not telling them everything / is clearly hiding something, she was more reluctant to bond, is only giving political reasons about why she won't betray them (take the egg), not personal ones. He doesn't want to assume they're more than they are — similarly to why he's so nervous around Claudia, hesitant around Harrow, and then a mixture of both around Runaan and Ethari. Callum has so much love and loyalty to give, but he's not gonna shower you in it (or at least in his mind, he's holding back) before he feels certain about it on his end and/or particularly on yours. He can be, and often is, quite self conscious
Even if usually he ends up taking the first step or outright plunge anyway (bonus points if it doubles as giving someone else major words of affirmation or especially an act of service, because that also majorly makes him feel a Lot more comfortable around people)
#tdp callum#callum#characterization#moon fam#plus callum hi callum#the royal family of katolis#parallels#arc 1#arc 2#multi#like truly whenever he's nervous just give him a Task He Can Do and he relaxes by like. a thousand percent#min meta#analysis series#tdp#the dragon prince#alternatively rayla's a lot more willing to impose her presence even when it's not wanted (4x04 showing her nervousness with the opposite)#but not her desires. which callum can kinda middle on / is more circumstantial for himself

the blorbo-ification of john walker that’s been developing in this fandom lately has been.. interesting to witness. i’d be less mad if marvel built a compelling reason to root for him and his development after thunderbolts (because i don’t subscribe to the idea that characters can be irredeemable) but like.. we have yet to see a compelling reason to root for him (imo obviously). i think people just saw a man being sad and sassy and completely forgot that he was the physical representation of white privilege in the narrative of tfatws. he became cap with miles less resistance than sam would have had initially, despite steve gifting sam the shield. walker had a violent episode and murdered a civilian (who, reminder, did NOT kill lemar) in a scene that served to contrast the extreme levels of restraint and self-possession sam has to show AT ALL TIMES to even be a hero as a black man in america.
and then in thunderbolts, john is just a man with a few funny lines, and a few sad lines, experiencing (minimal) consequences of his actions (his wife leaving him, public backlash. honestly he could be in jail.). once again i’ll say, i’m not even opposed to a john walker redemption arc. i just think it’s poor storytelling by marvel to not address the themes of race/privilege so inherent to john walker’s character in tfatws if they’re trying to “redeem” him and put him in the mainstream of mcu heroes. and i think it’s an interesting interpretation by fans to ignore the themes of race and privilege in walker’s character to go ahead and woobify him into a lovable pathetic wet cat man, in love with bob and play-bantering with bucky.
the crux of john walker’s character is this: he is a white man who achieved things far easier than others with more personal merit could. he entered the us military as a young man and spent near-constant years involved in foreign intervention. he is a man who believed himself heroic enough for the serum and the shield and he was wrong. his entire life has been marked by narratives of nationalism and american exceptionalism, and thus implicit white supremacy. these are things he (and his redemption arc) must grapple with.
when it comes down to it, walker fans, i’m not saying walker shouldn’t be your blorbo. i’m asking why you’re sanitizing the sociopolitical commentary his character served to give in tfatws in order to blorbify him.

Discrepancy #5.5
Building on the idea that Dokja refers to his life in two different ways.
In the novel, Dokja says:

[ORV Novel, Chapter 2. Again, ignore the page break. I don't know how to get rid of it on my phone.]
In the webtoon, he says:

[ORV Webtoon, Episode 1]
I don't know if it's different in the Korean version. As much as I'd love to learn Korean, I'm currently learning Tagalog and French. But it's interesting because of the meaning of Dokja's name.
As we all know, Dokja can mean (and I quote from my copy of the translation) "only child, reader, or individualist in Korean." Does it actually mean that? I have no clue. For all I know, it could mean "really cool guy. " But it's the accepted meaning, so I'll go with that.
When N!Dokja says, "A Dokja's life," he says he is and will continue living the life of an only child, reader, or individualist. What is noticeable about those terms is that they all describe something singular: a singular child, a singular reader, or an individualist, which is literally an independent person.
When W!Dokja says, "I have my own life to live," it just... doesn't hit as hard. Saying a Dokja's life is such a fantastic line. I love it, honestly. He's simultaneously saying that he will live his own life and limiting his life to someone who is always alone.
Additionally, Sangah does the same thing. In the novel, she says, "a Sangah's life." In the webtoon, she says, "I should also live my own life!" From basic research (cough cough a simple google search cough cough), Sangah could mean ivory, purity, beauty, or elegance... Don't come at me if that's wrong... ANYWAYS, N!Sangah does the same thing as N!Dokja when she says, "a Sangah's life."
And again, it could be different in the Korean version. Stupid American is stupid.

You know I really love how Squid Game pushes it's scenes so far that it makes you feel that sense of urgency and distress that the characters feel. It can easily happen that if a scene goes on for too long for the purpose of keeping you in suspense that it then gets boring or annoying. But that never happens in Squid Game. Some scenes are incredibly long, especially the games, I know I got so stressed out watching Dalgona for the first time because the scene just would not end. But that's exactly what the length of that scene is supposed to do for you. Often when you are feeling a lot of anxiety or are in a moment of intense stress everything around you can feel slower. Like time takes longer to pass. Especially when you have a time limit and still need to concentrate and not make any mistakes. And in my opinion Squid Game conveys that perfectly. The games, they drag on even though a game itself is often not that long. Red Light, Green Light has a timelimit of 5 minutes. That's so little!! But they make you feel every damn second of it while watching. I'm not sure if the actual scene was longer than 5 minutes, but it probably was. But they don't cut out stuff. Often when things happen over a span of time in shows and movies they don't add in parts where not much happens and just cut to the part that's interesting again. But in Squid Game because it is life or death and because of how anxiety can make you feel like time is passing slower every moment for the players feels so long and every moment is important. And that's what I really love in how they made the show. Because yes scenes may be going on for a long time. But they're showing you in the most realistic way possible how the players experience these moments. Add to that that there's almost no added in music like pop songs and in general there's not that much background music either. Because it would just take you out of the intensity of the scene, seperate you from the character's point of view. So a lot of scenes are very quiet in the way that every sound you hear is also a sound that a character inside the show is hearing too. Squid Game, just in the way it's made and filmed and in how long scenes take, is made to be so realistic and wants you to feel as closely as possible to what the characters themselves are feeling too. I really love this way of making a show
Btw I made this post because I realized that this doesn't just happen in the games but also outside of them. When Gi-hun is searching for the recruiter we get a montage of all of them searching, the days passing and Gi-hun ripping off pages from his calendar, but even here that montage takes longer than a montage to show the passage of time usually takes. Because it is long. They can't show us every day of Gi-hun just searching again and again but they can sure make us feel like we've just watched that. And you start out watching it thinking "oh they're gonna show us them finding him in like the next 30 second" but they don't. And there's one point where you think the montage is over but then it isn't. And you get frustrated watching it because "why can't they find the recruiter already?? This is taking so long" and that's Exactly how Gi-hun is feeling in that moment. They drag it out, they show you so much of everybody just searching and days passing and they Want you to be annoyed, because then you're really getting it. You're really getting how fucking long it took to find the Recruiter and what a painfully and annoyingly slow and exhausting process it was. And that's just another way that this show is so damn amazing!!! Because it's so fucking good at making you feel exactly what a character is feeling!! They're not just telling you "oh yeah this took long but they did it", no. They're Showing you exactly how long it took.
And suddenly we've arrived at one of my favorite story telling rules which is "show, don't tell" and I think Squid Game applies this rule really really well
(I have more rambly thoughts under the cut that have a little bit to do with this post but focus on another part of it. Also if the structure of this post feels weird that's probably because I had many different thoughts and just kinda put them where I felt they fit in best so idk, I have a hard time rereading stuff I've written so sorry if the flow of it feels off)
Tbh I think it might also be a little bit why the show appeals to so many people and why so many people go and participate in Squid Game the Challenge or that Mr Beast shit. With the way Squid Game is made and filmed to be so immersive it has the power to give the viewer that same rush of adrenaline that the players inside the show feel. But us viewers sit at home and we know we are safe and so we want more of that adrenaline. It's maybe kind of like Bungee Jumping. You get that rush, that thrill of "holy shit I'm Falling", but you know you're safe. You're doing something you would otherwise only experience right before death. And obviously that is what Squid Game the Challenge is like, because being in it you know if this was real, as in real the way it is real in the show, then you'd be very close to death at any given moment. But you're not. Because you don't die if you fail. But you still get that thrill because of that association with death without actually having to be afraid of it. And that's when it gets fun. And while I don't think that this was intended the show is partly also as popular as it is, Because just by watching it you get a little bit of that adrenaline that's fun for you because you know you're safe
Also another thought about the 'show, don't tell' point of it all. There's not that much talking happening in Squid Game. Like people obviously speak to each other but often there are also long periods of time where nobody is speaking at all. But that doesn't matter because this show is so good at showing us everything that is important without much words needed. I'm pretty sure you could watch it without sound or subtitles and still get most of the plot of it. And that's really impressive
#i think a lot of media is afraid of being boring#so they shorten scenes that take longer to make them not feel so long#it's kind of a relief for the viewer#yes this character went through those incredibly tense 10 minutes but don't worry it'll be only 3 minutes for you#you get to see the star some of the middle to show you that stiff actually happens and then the end where they are finally done#but don't wory we won't make you sit through ten minutes of quiet just watching this character trying to accomplish a task without much els#happening#that would be boring#any then you are the viewer are nicely out#but#those actions scenes oh you'll get 30 minutes of action with people beating each other up when realistically they would have probably only#been able to fight for maybe like 5 minutes before they're done#i like that too about squid game#there's not much hand to hand combat (beside the lights out extra games) but when there is it takes a realistic amount of time#and i also feel like (i've not actually been in any fights like that lol but i'm assuming) fighting always goes by really fast in like#how you percieve it#you don't have time to think you just do and you move and then it's over and you don't remember half of it because it happened so fast#especially compared to those high stakes moments where you have to be really careful and be smart while still being threatened with death#if you make one mistake#that Feels a whole lot longer then#anyways idk where else i want to go i just really like how long scenes are in squid game without ever being boring#especially Because it is to convey time perception and the stress a character feels properly#lea's random thoughts#squid game#squid game analysis#also i feel like i just understood 'show don't tell' on a deeper level#cause while they still only visually showed us the time passing#if they had done that in a way where for examply gihun is only crossing of days on his calendar until the day where they find the recruiter#then that still kind of would have been just 'tell' because they're saying 'look time has passed' only without words#but showing it to us (which is what they did) is actually making us feel like time has passed

thinking about the reboot mw games collectively and it’s so sadly unfortunate because like. when put up against the other two, mwiii fails so visibly.
first of all you’ve got their thesis/emotional core, right. for mw19, it’s all about the personal motivation of being a solider, the cost of war on an individual. what it means to fight and discovering the importance of what you’re fighting for. for mwii, it’s about trust. the importance of knowing that your team has each others backs, the weight that it has between individuals. what happens when that trust is broken and how it’s found again through vulnerability, because that’s how you truly know you’re there for each other.
and then there’s mwiii..? you should let your sergeant kill a prisoner illegally so said prisoner, when he breaks out of maximum security prison, doesn’t kill your sergeant 4 years later? you should illegally kill people who piss you off (shepherd)? sure there’s the whole “never bury your enemies alive”, but where does that come in to play outside of the soap/makarov interaction? it’s definitely not a valid reason for price to kill an american general in his own office. they could’ve used it for graves if they wanted to take it a step further, but no— graves doesn’t betray the team again, for whatever reason. we’re expected to consider him just a much a member of the team as anyone else, and the narrative treats him as such outside of a few bristly reactions to his involvement.
secondly i take a huge issue with how characters were handled in mwiii. literally everyone is here, and there is no reason for several of them to be. alex felt like a cameo— you see him actually on screen for maybe 30 seconds. farah’s missions feel forced for the sake of her involvement. not that farah shouldn’t be in this game, but makarov’s flimsy reasoning for targeting the ulf is so clearly an excuse to involve her. it feels very random and transparent as a decision to reuse her character because she’s familiar. again with graves— why is he here? i still genuinely do not understand why they decided to retcon his death. it was a perfect arc for mwii to kill him, and him being alive adds absolutely nothing to the story. he has nothing to do in mwiii and there is zero reason for his involvement other than “people liked him in mwii and he has a cool accent.”
within the 141, it’s mostly rehashing of the growth/personality that each of them showed in previous games. none of them have an arc, except maybe price if you’re willing to call the *post credit scene* where he commits cold blooded murder a completion of an arc. gaz, soap, and ghost are static versions of themselves that simply are just … there for most of the plot. they’re not out of character or ruined, but none of them individually have anything going on that can’t be tied back to price.
i think a lot of it comes down to the way they tried to shoehorn mwiii into the original trilogy’s storyline. people loved those games, and nostalgia sells. i don’t think it’s a coincidence that makarov was a big marketing factor for this game— and that’s not to say that mw19 or mwii didn’t abuse that either, but in execution you can feel the difference. price, gaz, soap and ghost are all their own characters miles away from their original trilogy counterparts. makarov… isn’t. he’s a poorly written villain riding on the success of the original trilogy— he’s scary because he’s *makarov*, not because he’s a real threat. it’s cheap. the knockoff “no russian” mission felt insulting. it’s a callback with no real impact in the story, just simply “look! remember when we did this in 2009 and everyone loved it?”
and all of it culminates into a shit ending with shock factor that it tries to make you feel emotional. i’m not sad over this character death. i’m mad, because it’s unearned and lazy. i realize it’s a lot to ask a multi-billion dollar corporation to actually put effort into their stories, but… it’s such a let down when the previous games actually had at least an ounce of passion. i’m just still so disappointed with this game ruining what could’ve been a really interesting and unique story.
#anyways ummm#yeah this has been on my mind for a while#if i was a youtuber id make a whole video essay on this because i am very passionate about how badly they fucked up#i have a character analysis essay for my english class that i actually need to write too#but this is easier because fuuuck#pls pls share your thoughts let’s all complain together#or if you liked mwiii tell me why#call of duty#cod#cod mw2#soap cod#john soap mactavish#soapghost#ghostsoap#mwii#mwiii#mw2#mw3#simon ghost riley#kyle gaz garrick#john price#task force 141#tf 141#idk? complaining?#phillip graves#farah karim#modern warfare

as unkempt as he always was, i'd like to think that birkin at least tried to look put together in his early days. the middle part was him trying to look professional past the hairs sticking in every direction and the back of his haircut never looking quite right.
his mother's nagging about his appearance seemed to linger in the back of his mind even after he moved out, going days, weeks, years without talking to her. any real meaning or even importance behind the self-grooming was lost, boiled down to habit. taking a minute to pick through his matted hair with a broken comb in the morning was a ritual that kept him sane. it grounded him.
the evential side part was him letting go of the half-cobbled man that he used to be, relinquishing what little identity he had in pursuit of finishing his life's work. even until his final moments, golgotha had always come first.
#good morning birkin nation!#i always distinguish between younger and older birkin by the hairstyle when i draw him#the 2:8 hairstyle makes him look so Exhausted#i think he's always had eyebags that give the grand canyon a run for its money#and that his clothes are always slightly wrinkled no matter how much time he spends pressing them#his work folders are always messy not to the point where it's illegible but just enough to inconvenience both him and anyone that tries to-#-look through them#and all of this only worsens when his mental and physical condition does ahaha#no birkin enjoyer is a stranger to the concept of birkin destroying his body for the task of finishing g#but i think we also need to think about everything else that falls apart for him#to the point where waking up in the morning to work on g and going to bed three days later thinking about g is his only constant#idk where i'm going with this#i think about him a lot.#resident evil#william birkin#i need to figure out other queues that his health is declining to incorporate into my art for those who are true and noble enough to notice#cues* sorry#slash pay attention#slash remember#also i need to figure out how to distinguish between younger and older wesker in a way that isn't just changing his body shape and clothes#lol#citrus writing#i guess#i need a ramble/analysis tag but i guess the writing one works too#headcanons

i was thinking about tobirama's death [as one does] in the first war compared to how hiruzen led konoha during the third war and had to sit with the cultural change in warfare in which clan leaders [during the warring clans]/kages take a backseat to lead their men. and i was like okay well tobirama grew up and spent his life on the battlefield of course he dies in war. and with hiruzen only being selected right before he dies, clearly it wasn't a smooth transition to power, likely leading hiruzen to not fight in the next wars, knowing just how turbulent a change in power in the middle of the war can be [which adds to more reasons beyond age and increased manpower in the war for why he holds onto the hat until the end of the third war. it seems to be a choice the other kages either choose not to follow or can't by the time of the fourth war but anyways–].
tobirama. dying in the war. back to that.
hey why the fuck is the hokage even running missions during the war with only his escort unit anyways?? Clearly it must be something important, right?? i mean u got the leader of a whole ass village during the first ever war since peace was made, tobirama's presence had to be vital. yes you could explain increased risk taking behaviour coupled with apathy towards his life by grief but he's not kakashi. fun parallel but i think circumstances are different enough to explore the route that no one else could have taken this sort of mission. as in top secret. as in hush hush.
while i think the idea of a leak is great fuel for danzo's seal [beyond the obvious reasons], i think it's just standard shinobi luck that eventually got them. apologies for the brief powerscaling but i do NOT think tobirama couldn't have taken out the kinkaku unit by himself if he was in peak condition. like yea there were at least 20 of them, two of which were like. mini jinchurikis. so it wouldn't have been an easy, decisive win, but at no point do any of them suggest taking them head on. which i think is interesting because your options are that konoha's presence cannot be known due to the delicacy of the mission or something OR they're injured and know there's no chance of victory. i mean come on, it's 7:20, not the greatest odds but not impossible either, especially with a hokage in the mix. which given the plan they went with, it can't be a complete secrecy thing.
so yea. you got a weakened squad of seven, likely on their way back from a mission since there's no line about abandoning it after running something of importance. and like. not to pin everything on danzo [whom i find interesting and complex and want to squash like a bug], but building on the fanon that he played a role in the destruction of uzushio? i think running an errand or message or wtv to them of great importance bc of konoha's alliance with them but then losing their hokage for it?? oh it would be so easy for him to look the other way, to not quite consider sending help as an urgent matter. according to this analysis, konoha already had its hands full of their own matters anyways.
if danzo learns how easy it is to look away, mayb even how beneficial it is to konoha in the long run without powerful yet unreliable allies, well. the uchiha massacre is just another domino in this series of events, isn't it? [danzo my beloved unreliable narrator ur descent into madness captivates me babygirl]
[i referenced this timeline when my memory was a bit spotty bc kishimoto's timeline is a horrendous mess btw but i might have missed a few things. if you'll excuse me i have to go scream into a pillow or something]
#aahahahahaha having a normal one abt adding another piece to the puzzle that is danzo's motivations and how he became the man he died as <3#damn......... u think abt babygirl no.1 [tobirama] and end up at babygirl no.2 [danzo]........... this is how they get u fr#anyways little analysis little hc i am actively holding myself back from throwing ideas at this post like wet pasta at a wall. althoughh#who's stopping me? [responsibilities n tasks i must attend to]#perhaps later...#naruto#senju tobirama#sarutobi hiruzen#shimura danzo#uzushiogakure#uchiha massacre#um what else do i tag this as#naruto analysis#maz rambles#my idea box

In Defense Of Ceroba
Even though I'm still probably the biggest Starlo apologist you've seen, I wanna talk about Ceroba today. Particularly, my initial and current thoughts on her (but also why she works as a deeply flawed and tragic character).
Anyway, here we go.
Ceroba wasn't a character I liked at first. It wasn't dislike or hatred I felt for her, but rather... not much, if anything. She simply didn't catch my attention like Starlo did, with his larger-than-life personality. Ceroba wasn't like that. She wasn't in the spotlight, she seemed calm and level-headed, sarcastic and easily annoyed with the Five's nonsense, but also kinda just.... there, in contrast to the more 'cartoonish' Starlo.

you can clearly see who the goofy one is
Heck, I was so focused on NOT wanting to get to know and understand Ceroba that I payed little to no attention to her, even in the Steamworks, which was her section as well as Axis'. I completely forgot about the talk option too, so I missed on a lot during my first playthrough. I didn't even laugh at her sarcastic comebacks (that I find funny now, as you can see in my post titled 'Ceroba's sarcasm is growing on me').
And when I found out Ceroba injected Kanako... let's just say she became my least favorite character. I didn't understand why she had done it. It seemed like a poor writing choice not to have Kanako get her paws on the serum and inject herself. Ceroba actively going against her husband's last wish and being the cause of her kid falling down left a bad taste in my mouth.
Only later did I finally put the pieces together.
Ceroba was depressed. Like, really REALLY depressed. So depressed, in fact, that she became blunt with her choice of words when it came to the Starlo situation and unaware of his troubles/the fact he was trying to help her out of the rut. Ceroba was clearly way harsher towards him than she used to be before all the tragedy struck (but said she was sorry)

Starlo describes her as compassionate and hard-working (and they've been friends for a long time, so he must know). Or at least, that was who she was before all the sadness turned her into a shell of her former self.

Now, Chujin... oh, Chujin.
Chujin meant a lot to Ceroba and that is very clear. From her blindly following his legacy even after his death, to accepting to kill Clover (someone she had grown to respect) with tears in her eyes.

If you ask me, it wasn't Ceroba's cold, sarcastic, gloomy heart that destroyed her. Quite the opposite. It was love. More specifically, her love for Chujin.
I would, without an ounce of doubt, call this fox romantic and emotional. Someone who loves hard and deep. Someone who trusted him, her love, so blindly that she never suspected Chujin was up to anything suspicious. And when he was stripped away from her, it hurt so much. She even blamed herself for not noticing. It's sad.

So... why inject Kanako, something Chujin didn't want her to do? Simple. Because of her major character flaw: stubbornness.
See, Ceroba had refused at first. But the line that got her to change her mind was this:

Ceroba, still in emotional distress and not thinking clearly (much like Starlo), trusted her heart and not her head. And her heart was telling her that Chujin, wherever his soul was, would be proud of her for fulfilling his dream. Making his legacy come true. Saving monsterkind was a bonus, but I believe the main, true motivation here was honoring Chujin and what he wanted to accomplish for monsterkind. And so, instead of focusing on remaining a good parent to her only child, Ceroba chose her husband. She chose something greater that he believed in.
Ceroba loves Kanako, don't get me wrong. She remembers how Kanako and Starlo would watch westerns together, how Kanako would play with brick toys when she was younger, she says how her love for her could be enough to shatter the barrier. She'd tuck her in every night. She promised she'd be safe during the extraction. The two hugged tight and said 'I love you.' All signs point towards Kanako receiving a lot of love from her mother. She even made a drawing of the three of them, and this picture on the right says it all:

Chujin, too, loved his daughter, and I believe this love for her was more prominent before the attack (he even gave her the chance to play video games in her room, how cool is that?). He, too, like Ceroba, prioritzed the wrong things. Instead of making sure Kanako was alright, he made Axis chase after the human and didn't stay to comfort her. He was so focused on the prejudice towards humans (he believed Integrity would have 'continued the crusade' and it hadn't just been fear or self-defense that made them attack) that he forgot that the safety of his child and helping Dalv was far more important.

But Chujin... Ceroba can't even look at her own daughter without being reminded of him:

Ceroba talks about Chujin a lot.

Even though Ceroba messed up badly by injecting Kanako, not paying more attention to what Chujin had been doing, manipulating Clover and the Feisty Five, wanting to kill Clover so she'd save Kanako and monsterkind (notice how she is so blinded that, even as she talks about Kanako, it seems like she sees her as a tool for finishing what Chujin wanted, ACCORDING TO CEROBA. In reality, the man just wanted Kanako to be happy and for her to stay out of all this),

and almost killing Starlo and Martlet, she acknowledged her situation and later admitted that she was wrong. The reason Clover hugged her and forgave her easily was because Clover is like that. Completely altruistic. Starlo and Martlet are sweethearts, too. All three have good hearts and lots of empathy and understanding. And, me, personally? Instead of it putting me off...

...I find it admirable.

Okay but why being a werewolf in Bartseq is actually so traumatising? I know we all like to joke about how random and cool the Night Police is but taking into account its origin along with the way it works, the werewolfs might also be one of the most fucked up things this magical thinking has ever produced?
You see, before rereading, I was pretty sure the werewolf transformation was, well, a voluntary things — not that you can control whether you will be selected to become a werewolf or not, the books never give any clearance, but I thought that at least the could control the transformation itself, to some extent. No dependence on the full moon and everything.
Upon rereading the Golem's Eye I realised that It is not, in fact, the case. Not even close. While, yes, the transformation itself does not require any reliance on a moon cycle (which is really unusual for a werewolf genre, yet very interesting topic to tackle), the transformation is not controlled by a werewolf.
Even more, Bartimaeus point out that the particular reason the werewolfs are a pretty unstable system — hence why they weren't used before Glandstone's reformations, while being "discovered" centuries before that — is because they are incredibly hard to control. For what he knows, and this is the only source of information we have so here we have no choice but to believe (partially) our good friend Barty, the transformation is fully controlled by two things: 1) the intensity of an emotion the they experience 2) pain
There were even a description of werewolfs switching back and worth between wolfs and humans because of how unstable they felt, whereas feeling either too much or not enough. And while we also see werewolfs changing their transformed body in order to achieve some technicalities (that one werewolf who gave himself elbows and fingers in order to climb the roof where Kitty were standing) we have no reasons to think it's not a part influenced by the system described above or/and only comes through huge trainings relying on those factors, as there were only one, maybe two werewolfs who where able to do this trick. For all we know it's still only emotional damage or pain.
So, not only you're a freaking werewolf, forced to live in this situation, partially tied to the police because no one else in this world needs you like this, not only it's non-reversible and probably really uncomfortable, you are also forced to live in fear of a slightest emotion or hints of pain literally turning you into a beast willing to tear other person's throat, and it was mentioned on more that one occasion that werewolfs are extremely bloodthirsty, am I getting this right? Oh this is horrible.
#this definitely not the follow-up analysis to my wip Jane Farrar fic for Bartpromts25#(it is)#(OH IT IS)#the interesting part is that we also doesn't know how much human consciousness are they leaving begind when transforming#like they're definitely some cause they are able to do some analysis and are able to built logical ties better than any wild wolf would#AND they're also being focused on their duty and the task given (e.g capture Kitty) which a normal wolf definitely would not do#BUT also they're still willing to eat some random criminals this is horrible there's definitely some ehh animal part in there?#anyways I'll explore that#in my Jane Farrar Is a Werewolf agenda#bartimaeus#bartimaeus sequence#bartimaeustrilogy#bartimaeus trilogy#jane farrar

i’m just curious about the timing of brave new world and thunderbolts* because the ending of bnw seemed to indicate sam was ready to build his own team and reinstate the avengers. bnw took place near the end of 2026 in canon, and thunderbolts* takes place in spring 2027 it seems, with the post credit scene and lawsuit being in 2028, counting 14 months forward. but the plot of thunderbolts hinged so much on earth’s lack of a super-powered defense, despite bnw.
i wouldn’t be surprised if sam’s hesitance to officially reinstate the avengers was both ideological and emotional. sam being wary of the politics behind an official avengers renewal and wanting to limit government intervention, AND experiencing the internal struggle of feeling oh-so human in the shadow of his super-powered predecessors (nevermind that sam has shown again and again he is captain america to his very core.) maybe sam is dreading public opinion of himself in comparison to the weighty legacies of not just steve, but tony and natasha. maybe, in the absence of huge threats to earth (until sentry in new york, possibly?) sam lets his new avengers lay in wait.
but i do not believe for a moment that sam wasn’t preparing. he was being strategic, meticulous, making connections and envisioning who the next great protectors of earth might be. he’s putting people in his corner (eli bradley, ironheart, kamala khan, and misty knight in my heart). he may not have called them avengers yet, but i don’t think there was a MOMENT where sam wasn’t considering his role as captain america with the utmost duty and care.

࿔*: - DREAMS INTO REALITY

john price ⸝⸝ navigation ୨୧ tags : fluff
୨୧ 𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘴 : your friends set you up on a blind date.... the blind date being your captain!
It would be fun they said. He's a good guy they said. Your friends had stated they had set you up on a blind date. Some guy your friend knows, apparently he's been liking this girl but he doesn't like him back bla bla bla. Some shite your friends talk. It all mushes together sometimes - the things spewing out of their mouths.
So here you are sitting patiently at your table. Table 11 is where your friends have told you to wait. Swooning your eyes around, flirting with the idea of just getting up and leaving, so fucking worried about who was going to walk through those doors and sit by you. You bet your friends had set you up with some absolute freaks. Your foot slammed against the floor as you looked through the menu for the restaurant. Your eyes swiping through the options - trying your hardest to distract yourself from who was gunna be your date.
Your foot taps against the hard floor as you hear the door fling open. Questions grow around your mind - pushing your thoughts and ideas together into a tight squish. A kind yet familiar voice, deep and loving almost, sounds from the entrance of the restaurant. You can slightly hear his words through his loud accent. '11' was a word he blurted out. Fuck he was your date. Eyes swatting to one side of the room to his almost blurred face to look back at your hands.
Soon, the sound of the same mystery man could be heard just across your table. "Hey, I guess you're my..." he trails off. You take a glance up to see it's your fucking captain. Captain Price was standing across your table - supposedly being your blind date. "Y/N? Are you uh the right person?”
You nod slightly in confirmation, feeling a bit confused and overwhelmed as Price sits opposite you. Your eyes rake over his shirt, large biseps poking out and a chised pecs beaming through his shirt. He slowly shuffles around in his chair, settling into a comfortable position as you retort, "I'm guessing."
While he takes the menu to scroll his eyes through it to pick out a meal, you take a chance to check him out - out of the uniform which is the only sight you have seen him in. You could tell he had tried to look nice - and ofc he did look nice. The man was wearing a crisp white linen shirt with two unbuttoned buttons at the top, and also had on a brown blazer that was draped over his broad shoulders. He paired the look with crisp black trousers that fit him perfectly, showing off his muscular legs.
The waiter scoots over as Price looks up at you and smiles sweetly, a genuine silly smile. The one he makes quite often that always makes you feel mushy and giggly inside. "I'll have the hm.. steak please." he kindly says to the waiter then looks over to you for your answer. After ordering your meal you and Price start to chit chat.
"so price-"
"john."
"john?"
"Yeh, call me John. Not price."
Awe how cute, well not really but it was odd calling your captain, who is on a date with you, his real name. John Price - it kinda like rings off your tongue. It fits him. Ofc it felt weird calling your date his last name but he was your boss so what were you meant to do? This was a confusing time. He didn't seem to mind, and you felt weird calling him anything else.
"so john," you slightly giggle at the voice you had just said his name in - as if john wasn't his real name. John chuckles at how daft you were and just happily glazes at you with his stupid grin plastered along his face, "was told you like some lass? " John blushes and looks away, trying to mask his embarrassment. You smile and chuckle again, knowing he's hiding something. "Maddy told you?" nodding and giggleing at his embarrassment he scoffs slightly. As if mocking you - you can clearly see him fiddling with his hands above the table, obviously nervous and keeping something from you.
"well, I do, Maddy told me she would set me up to get over it." now you are wondering.. who is this lucky girl? Who is the girl who made price like them that much? It wouldn't be a very good first date if you chatted about who his secret little crush was the whole time so you decided to leave it.
"how's your steak?” you question as he tucks into his food while you do the same. The food was delicious but not as tasty as the sight in front of you - your captain in civilian clothes which highlights his juicy muscles as he chomps on his food. God he was kinda hot - you never really noticed him being this attractive. You had always seen him more as a serious father-boss figure, never as attractive, fit or anything around that!
Price starts telling you things he wouldn't really share, like his hobbies, family and past life as you do the same. This date was comforting. It was just plain sweet. It seems like Price really took an interest in you, well he did at work but it was almost like he was in love with you right now and right here.
After a while the date goes nice, the chemistry goes good and he invites you over to his place. Tasting his lips as he carefully pushes you to the sofa, getting on top of you and towering above your tiny body while he groans into your lips. It was like he was dreaming of this moment with the planned out moves and the small relief groans he murmured into your mouth as he gets rougher with his kisses. The kiss seemed scheduled as if he had thought about this multiple times before so you just had to ask.
In between the smoches you could finally breathe out ,” how..” you get cut off with another breathless kiss, smothering your words with his kisses. “how long have you been dreaming of this..” whispering and pushing John slightly off of you to be able to catch your breath.
"Too fucking long doll.”
