Readers love their mom's side of the family more than anything—all their aunts and uncles, some of whom aren't even related to their mom, but who really cares? They're not just friends; they're family. These are some of the people who helped raise them and care for them when their mom had to go abroad for modeling. But the best people to hang out with are their cousins, who are like brothers and sisters. They grew up on the same block with these kids, who were younger or older than them, playing Wii or Smash Bros., or just playing hand games and regular tag. These people are their siblings; they made them feel safe and at home; they made them feel special. They made them who they are today. Having a sleepover at their grandma's place, they were all in the living room giggling and laughing under blankets until their grandma came downstairs and told them to shut up, threatening a belt, which made them laugh even more. They might not have another sleepover for a few weeks.

But the reader hates having to go to the manor. You've just never been ignored this much before. Maybe when you were really little, you were too small for the big kids or too big for the babies, and you surely couldn't hang out with the adults, so you just hung off your grandma. But there's no grandma to help you through this; you're all alone in this big mansion filled with kids. You're all alone; they're older than you, smarter than you, stronger, faster—they're just better in every way, and you're just you. Not to mention that they already have ties tighter than a Boy Scout knot, so who are you to intrude on their fun? You never were invited to begin with, and when you were invited, it was out of pity. So you sit there as they talk over you, acting so playful with one another, while you're just there like a small crack in the wall, begging to be filled with something—love, attention, anything, really. So you leave the room to let them have their fun, and now, all of a sudden, you're selfish and rude. "Really, they were begging for us to hang out with them!"They're so spoiled!" They think you can't hear them, but you can. It pushes you to tears, and they're all older than you—not in age, but in the way they act. You're 17, so you act 17, but Tim, who’s the same age as you, acts like he’s 20. They're so mature, and they make you feel so childish. The reader hates, hates, and hates going to Wayne Manor because you're not a Wayne.

I know none of my mutual will care about this but. I hate how in batman reader inserts they call a reader who's the sidekick for Selena Catgirl/Catboy or some shit.

Just call them Calico.

it sticks the cat theme, it's gender neutral, it parallels Batman and Robin's all black hero + colorful sidekick stic (imagining Calico actually has Calico colors) and it also parallels Batman and Robin's naming convention. Catgirl/Catboy as a name parallels Batgirl more than Robin which is hypothetically fine but barely ever the intention. 90% of the time I've seen Catgirl as a sidekick named used, it's used to be paired with a Robin or to parallel Bruce's relationship to the Robins. Most Robin's have green in their palette. Calico's are most associated with having green eyes. unifying colors!!

After Ricki left Bruce's side to follow THEIR own path as NIGHTWING, Bruce had quickly REPLACED Ricki with a new ROBIN, Jason Todd. Over the years, Jason became like a little brother to Ricki, THEY had to check in on him. Make sure that Jason is safe, not dead,.....well not dead AGAIN, anyways. Which Jason, OBVIOUSLY, was NOT. That was good, at least.

Ricki pushed THEMSELF off of the doorframe, still smirking. TRICK or TREATING. Been a minute since Ricki had done that. Thinking back on times past, trying to get Bruce, or Alfred or SOMEONE in the WAYNE manor, to take them out to go TRICK or TREATING. It didn't usually end in Ricki's favor. The last time Ricki remembered going TRICK or TREATING was with Jason when he was much younger. Ricki remembered not wanting Jason to experience what THEY had gone through as a kid around this time of year.

Although TRICK or TREATING seemed a bit odd for Jason now, at his current age & stage in his life. Ricki raised a single eyebrow INQUISITIVELY as they tried to look around their little BROTHER to see what he was working on to give them some indication as to what @d3adhood meant by TRICK or TREATING. Quickly looking back to Jason's face, smiling CHEERFULLY.

"Want 'ny company, Little Wing?" A hint of caution in their voice, Ricki asked genuinely wanting to spend time with their SIBLING.

It  didn't  take  an  IDIOT  to  know  that  things  between  the  ones  that  called  themselves  The  Bat  Family  ,  were  never  quite  going  to  be  the  same.   That  much  was  unavoidable  ,  but  none  of  it  ever  stopped  the  two  from  being  close.   Even  when  Jason  didn't  feel  SAFE  to  come  back  into  the  fold  just  yet  ,  he  always  had  Ricki  checking  in  on  him.   He  could  count  on  that  at  least.

The  remark  earns  a  slight  CRINGE  motion  ,  all  in  good  fun  before  a  chuckle  sounds  from  him.   Turning  away  from  the  latest  project  he  was  working  on  to  face  @scores-of-antiheroes  more  fully.   ❝  Been  as  good  as  I  can  be.   Was  just  getting  ready  to  go  do  some  Trick  or  Treating  myself.   I'm  sure  I'll  find  a  bit  of  both  tonight.  ❞

Tim stared at himself in the body length mirror. He looked good. Like a fancy boy. The tux was snug and showed off his muscular arms and hid his slim 'girlish' shoulders and waist. All in all it looked good. He looked masculine in it.

but... is that a good thing? Looking masculine. Is that really what he wants?

Tim had always been very androgynous. He's got a slim lean build. He works out and is very muscular but it doesn't show thanks to how compact he is. When he wears hoodies and baggy sweats it's hard to tell what his sex is. It doesn't help that his hair is cut in a way that is both masculine and feminine depending on how you style it. 

And he likes it. 

He likes when people look at him and can't tell what's in his pants.

This suit makes him look like a man. 

Is that a good thing?

Tim opens the dressing room door to let Jason see how he looks in the suit. Tim looks good.

Tim doesn’t like it.

“You look like Bruce.”

Suddenly Tim has tears running down his cheeks.

Bruce is a man. Bruce is the definition of masculinity.

Jason is infront of him, blocking him from the growing crowd of on-lookers. Shoppers and employees alike staring at him as he sobs in the middle of the dressing room hallway.

“I look like Bruce.”

His voice is squeaky. High and whiny. It doesnt sound like a man’s voice

Jason is not. Jason is panicking and shushing him like a child who is crying because Tim is 19 and crying in the middle of the fucking Macy’s changing room.

Day: 1, late morning

Y/N opened their eyes, pink glowing eyes shined against their walls. Sighing as they hopped off the ceiling, loosening their footing and falling on their stomach. They have gotten sick, coughing as Y/N shiver. The certain hybrid is wearing their matching silk white pj's. Robin enters into the bat's room with a tray of medicine and fruits. Small fruits, specially.

"....are you..okay?"

You groaned looking up at him with puffy eyes, your pink eyes slowly turned into [eye color] eyes. Feeling weak and tired.

"No Dick. I'm not okay; I'm sick, tired, and sick." You sneezed to which Dick only rolled his eyes behind his eye mask. He helps you up while still holding the tray.

"Well. It seems that today there weren't be no crimes today. So you get to relax with the rest of the team. Or mostly you get to relax and be isolated. We can't risk—

"Yeah yeah, blah blah blah. 'We can't risk the others getting sick'. I heard it before Dick."

Dick puts you in the bed, tucking you in and laying the tray of medicine on your nightstand. "Listen, I know you hate being sick. I hate you being sick too cause it pains me to see you this way." Robin puts his gloved hand against your head.

You shivering from the hand made him frown. He turns around, you watch as he does something with the tray. "Here, take this." Your eyes widen, trying to shuffle away from the medicine cup. Robin narrowed his eyes and brows, gritting his teeth as he grabbed your silk pj shirt to make you stay still, then shoved the liquid medicine in your mouth.

You gagged but still sallowed. Ready to try and fight Dick, you felt drowsy suddenly and fell asleep. Robin smiled as he got up and pushed a bowl of fruits towards you in case you wake up again hungry.

"Sweet dreams Y/N."

Day: 2, late evening.

Waking up in a cold sweat, you opened your [e/c] eyes. Your eyes felt heavy despite sleeping. Turning your head, you see the bowl of fruits. You sat up quickly and shoved, chewed and sallowed the delicious fruits. You loved the taste of your favorite fruits in the bowl.

Not hearing someone enter, you felt a hand push your sweaty hair off your face. You glanced up to see blue eyes and black hair. Knowing who it is, you smiled a wide grin.

"Dickkk!" You said, you were currently loopy from the medicine. You still ate the fruits to which Dick sat on the side of your bed and looks at the tray of medicine he had out for you. Starfire had made you her homeland soup. But knowing you, you won't be able to take it so Dick made soup himself and put it on the tray.

"Hey N/N...how do you feel?" He says, pouring medicine into a medicine cup. You giggled, you were clearly loopy and drugged from the medicine he had given you as you just leaned against the acrobat leader. "I feel funny!" You said with hazy eyes as you then dropped your body against your bed.

Dick laughed as he held a cup up to you. "Cmon, drink this one and you're done with medicine Y/N..." you narrowed your eyes at the grape flavored medicine. You tried to swat it out of dick's hand to make it spill onto for the boy wonder to grab your arm.

"Nope. You need this or you won't be able to get better baby." You scoffed, as you tried to retort only for dick to shove the liquid again down your throat. You coughed, but sallowed it. Dick just gave you a sympathetic look as you looked at him in betrayal. He shrugged with a weary smile as he soon notice your (e/c) eyes are becoming pink.

"The medicine is working, and their powers are coming back." Dick thought as he gave you the hot soup to distract you. Which worked as you gulped down the soup viciously. He sighed and laid beside you as you just ate, and ate til you fell asleep against robin's chest.

Putting an arm around you as he yawns, he knew he wouldn't get sick that easy as he just pats your back and smile at you. Your sleeping face looked adorable to him as he just closed his own eyes.

Day: 3, dark morning

Waking up, you felt the other side of your bed cold. You sat up, your pink eyes blazing your room. You see a note by you, picking it up reading it. You couldn't help but smile.

"Hey! I hope you wake up at a good time to read this. I'm currently in my room if you need anything. I left more fruits for you, since yknow, bat cravings. But any so, I hope you are feeling more better as I will check your temperature soon."

"Well, at least I do feel better now." You thought as you put the note down stretched yourself. As you checked your window, you can still see streetlights brightly. Raising your hand up, a string of light flows to your palm. You sigh in relief as your eyes glow a bright pink. Smiling you felt relief to not be sick.

Plus, being isolated in your own little bat cave did make you feel sad to not get much sunlight. You drew and read books to pass time. You didn't even know time pass that much as you were hanging upside down with the sun coming up fully. Your door opened to see dick, in his Robin costume and mask. He seemed to smile at you being up and early.

"I see that you're okay." You hopped off the ceiling and immediately hugged him. He stood his ground and lifted you up a bit as his arms were wrapped around your waist.

"Yep! I feel alot better dude. I feel like I could fight crime even." You disappeared from his hold and started to do karate moves. Robin just laughs as he pats your head. "Yeah well, you have it take it easy before you fully feel healthy again."

You just nodded and smiled at him. Robin stared at you, or more like your face.

"You're still beautiful just like when we were kids..." he mutters, your ear twitches before looking up at him.

"What did you say?" Robin wasn't looking at you. His face was stone cold, emotionless as you raised a brow. "Nothing." He says heading to your door. "Just...watch your limit. You just got off of being sick." He says before fully leaving your room.

Silence hung in the air. You heard him clearly, you always heard things clearly. You smiled softly as you chuckled at the boy wonder who was just in your room. You went to your bathroom to take a shower. Not knowing a certain boy wonder's face was red at how he could just say that to his best friend.

Gender shenanigans ideas with the bat fam:

Tim and Cas are both enby in the sense that “yeah people put me in this box but I don’t really have another box to go to so might as well be this.”

Jason never felt comfortable in his skin, but it wasn’t until be got dunked in the magical green buff juice. After the rage has cleared up and he’s in an area where he could stop and think he realizes that he may not be a boy. But because of his physique and how necessary he is for crime ally he doesn’t think he can change it. He doesn’t even let himself try out other pronouns. *no he can’t be a girl what are you talking about? Girls can wear the pretty skirts and he can’t*

Dick is gender fluid though usually male or male adjacent. He feels comfortable in his own skin and wears what ever he wants whenever he wants.

Duke was very very young when he found out he was trans and his parents let him transition so you that he just kinda forgets that he’s not cis. No one knows he’s trans but he just genuinely forgets to tell people. He’s been doing his own testosterone for like two years before his parents got jokerized so it kinda just fell through the cracks. He doesn’t feel the need to tell people either he’s just kinda there.

Babs is mtf and confident with her self.

Steph thought she could be enby for a period of time but she’s a cis girly pop. She just doesn’t like being treated like she’s less than and has no interest in “traditional female value” (cough cough misogyny)

Damian is a guy, he has never thought to question his gender. He was told he was a guy since birth so clearly he must be a guy right? Right?? Well he’s obviously not a girl, not that he hates wearing skirts or makeup he’s just not a girl so that means he’s a guy.

I got a bee in my bonnet and spent last night crunching these numbers to confirm a long-held suspicion of mine, and now I'm going to do something with them even if it's only interesting to me. So.

I went through and tallied up all of the fics AO3 currently (as of 3/27/24) has under the tags "Trans Tim Drake," "Nonbinary Tim Drake," "Genderfluid Tim Drake" and "Genderqueer Tim Drake," since I figured that cast a wide enough net without committing myself to reading every fic vaguely tagged Trans Character to figure out which character they were talking about.

I then did the same for Dick, Jason, Damian and Bruce and, after comparing those numbers against each other and against the total number of fics each character has under their general tag, followed up with Duke, Babs, Cass, Steph and Kate, and then Kon, Cassie, and Bart for good measure.

The results confirm the suspicions I was going into check and are really interesting, to me at least:

Despite having far fewer stories overall than Jason, Bruce or Dick, Tim has by far the most stories tagging him under the trans umbrella (653 out of 58,395) and is the only member of the Bats for whom at least one full percent of his stories fall under that category (1.12% to be exact.) He actually has more total trans stories than Jason and Damian combined (308 out of 71,120 and 255 out of 42,607, equaling 0.43% and 0.59%, respectively) and outstretches the 2nd place ranker, Dick, by over a hundred (who clocks in at 438 out of 79,057 -- 0.55%). Bruce amusingly has by far the most stories overall (90,305) but the fewest trans stories (185) for the lowest percentage among the boys (0.2%).

The only one who comes anywhere close to matching Tim percentage-wise is Bart, who has far fewer stories to his name but a ratio of 62 out of 5,717 for 1.08%. I was thinking maybe Young Justice might have a higher percentage than the Bats due to their strong queer fandom but that only really proved true for Bart, with both Cassie and Kon coming in at only 0.2% and 0.28% trans umbrella percentage respectively (actual count 6 out of 2,874 and 39 out of 13,746).

Cassie's numbers correspond with the fact that women just, do not get a lot of these stories, at all, even compared to the general lack of attention they're paid by fanfiction spheres in general. Steph and Kate both clocked in at falling 0.17% under the trans umbrella (29 out of 16,638 for Steph, 5 out of 2,897 for Kate); Cass got 0.13% (21 out of 15,769) and Babs only 0.07%, the lowest percentage out of anyone I calculated for (11 out of 15,785). Duke's showing was a respectable 0.55% (34 out of 6,166) which puts him about even with the rest of the boys.

All of which I just went through to confirm a gut instinct I've had for a while: even in light of the noticeable trend in fandom towards increased visibility for trans and other queer-gendered people over the last decade and a half or so, it's a notable Thing for the DC comics fandom to explore with Tim Drake in specific.

And that doesn't even take into account things like the over 200 "Tim Drake is Catlad | Stray" fics, which almost always have some element of queered gender or at least femme'd sexuality to them, far outstripping any of the other Robin boys' spins in that AU (those counts stand at, respectively: Damian - 11, Dick - 33, Jason - 79, Tim - 242). Or the 11 fics logged under the "Tim Drake is Batgirl" tag, a category that doesn't even exist for any of the other male Robins.

(What makes that last one extra hilarious to me that most people don't know one canonical version of Tim has been a member of the Batgirls.) Part of me wants to use that parenthetic detail as a segway to ramble about the various canon snippets I think probably contributed to this, from Tim being presented as "the pretty one" who most often gets the "looks like his mother" comments to the fact that he is the only male Robin who's ever cross-dressed for an undercover mission and even though it only happened once the Internet will never forget Caroline Hill.

But this post is long enough as it is and I don't really have a point beyond I think this is interesting and cool so I'm going to leave off here for now and put my numbers under a cut so people have the raw data to look at if they'd like to.

TL;DR - Based on the numbers, the internet believes Tim Drake is more likely to be trans than any other member of the Bat-family or Young Justice, and I think that has interesting implications about his character and fandom. It's neat.

Guys I'm so excited to share my newest project of ponifying the Batfam, it started out small with the hypothetical "I wonder what Batman would be like in a mlp universe." And then the project kept getting bigger and bigger.

-(First pic) Bruce Wayne: Bruce had got his cutiemark the night of his parents death, after the grief had broken his spirit and he realized that he never wanted anypony else to feel the same pain as he does. (He has a fake cutiemark to cover up his obvious destiny)

- The first pic is pretty self explanatory, but I want to make it clear that Bruce's destiny isn't "My parents are dead so now I dress up as a bat and beat up mentally ill folk". Because I've seen people on here give hot takes on cutiemarks that directly link them to a ponies destiny.

This goes for specifically in the mlp fandom but (for the sake of being on topic) I'll use the the example of that one post where someone gave the hot take that Jason would get his cutiemark in the warehouse right before he dies (or after he dies? smthing like that) because "It would be really fucked up to know that you were always destined to die." And listen, I can appreciate some good Jason Todd whump as the next guy but knowing that this would be based in a mlp universe . . . just doesn't sit right with me.

It sounds less magical that way. Its like saying that Rainbow Dash was always meant to be the fastest flyer, so theres no point in trying to compete with her. So uhm, trying to stay on topic here. My personal hot take is that a pony's cutiemark is symbol of something that they do/ a skill or talent that they have that makes them happy. And whats a more magical and fulfilling destiny than doing something that makes you happy for the rest of your life?

Looping back to Bruce, he didn't get his cutiemark the moment his parents died, but I like to think that he got it sometime later on in the night. After hours of being checked on by the police, getting looked at by the paramedics, and after Alfred took him home. Its 1:40ish in the morning and tiny foal-Bruce is just staring at his bedroom wall feeling numb and dissociated to hell. And sometime after processing everything that night- he just decides that this is the worst thing that has ever happened to him and that he will do anything to make sure that nopony will ever feel the same pain that he has felt. And then-- Ta da!! Cutiemark!! Too bad neither he or Alfred got to experience the excitement when they both saw it the next day :')

-(Second pic) The Bat: This is heavily inspired by Flutterbat, I know theres canonically already a race of bat ponies made from Lunas stunt as Nightmare Moon. But I chose to go through with the Flutterbat route because batponies are a race, and have bat-like features 24/7. In comparison Fluttershy maintains her pegasus appearance by day and transforms into Flutterbat at night (ALSO with there being implications that there are "Triggers" for her transformations in the day too!!) Which adds the "Vampire." right in front of her batpony title.

I might do a lil comparison chart between vampire batponies and regular batponies in the future or something. But for now I'm focusing on my batpony Bruce Wayne headcanons so yea. My point is that I felt like making Bruce a "vampire" batpony would give him a more solid secret identity with also the bonus of a really metal origin story.

Now we all know that the canonical origin story of batman is that a few months after the tragedy of his parents death, Bruce had fallen into a cave? a well? a pit? of bats and triggered a fear of bats since then. Later on he decides to become Batman so he can invoke the fear of bats he once had into the criminals of Gotham. Yadda yadda yadda.

Now canonically, we don't know the exact science on how Fluttershy turned into Flutterbat. What we do know is that at the time, pony magic is not researched enough for Twilight to be aware that Fluttershys "Stare" is her own form of pony magic and that it would interfere with Twilights spell.

Do you see where I'm getting at here? Uhmm don't ask me what exactly happened in the cave, I'm doing this for fun and thinking about it too hard makes me spiral. But uhmm something something- Bruce looked at a bat in the eye and decided to embrace his biggest fear to fuel his cause, and his already traumatized and fucked up pony magic had transformed his body- something something. (Edit: I didn't think about this until now but maybe Fluttershys "Stare" and Bruces "Bat Glare" could be a usage of the same form of magic? Just a thought)

I'll probably come up with a more suitable explanation in the future, but like I said. All of this is just for fun.

They would obviously go insane, being kidnapped by some low-life thug in Gotham and held against their will for millions of dollars, but in your eyes, you thought you weren't even worth a penny. You didn't even fight back; no way your shit-faced family would come running to save you. At least Bruce was on the way to save Jason from dying, but there was no way he would do the same for you. You saw the look in his eyes when you attended galas; it wasn't out of love, it was out of shame, pure shame. So you sat there in the cold, dark, and wet room, seeing rats chew on electric cables; even if it shocked them, they'd keep on chewing, keep on finding something to eat, even if there was pain or it would kill them in the long run. What had you thought of yourself so much, proving yourself to people who would never see you as their equal? You were allowed one call, and only one. Your kidnappers thought you would call your dear old dad, but no, you called your mom. You were begging and crying, using "mommy"—you hadn't used that word since you were 13—but right now, you wanted your mom more than anything. Fuck Batman and his stupid kids; you wanted your momma.

She took the message to Bruce; she was going through all four stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, and depression, but acceptance wasn't one of them. She wouldn't accept the fact that you might be dead; she wouldn't accept the fact that she'd never find you; she wouldn't accept it at all, and she tore them a new one, cursing each and every family member out while Alfred held her back, making sure she didn't do anything rash, which she would, and the Batfam felt absolutely trembled. Go searching for you? Half of Gotham would have burned down if it wasn't for Tim and Babs talking the rest of them out of it, but let's be honest, those computer twins were up for nights searching security cameras for you. Bruce was the craziest out of all of them; it was like losing Jason again, except it was his own flesh and blood, and when he heard that you called your mom for help—not him—he lost it. She didn't even have enough money for the ransom; she couldn't pay it off, but you called her instead of your billionaire father, who was BATMAN! For Christ's sake, did you really not trust him? Did you really think you weren't worth the trouble? Did you think he didn't love you?

He was going crazy in his study just at the thought that Dick, Jason, and Cass were going full rage mode. They'd been beating thugs into unconsciousness; some of their faces were unrecognizable if they didn't have an ID on them. Damian was very confused; he didn't know what to feel. At first, he acted aloof. Why did they want you of all people? You were useless, a disgrace to the Wayne family name, weak and replaceable, and when he shared those feelings with Alfred, the old butler who always seemed to understand him, walked away without a single word. It just didn't make sense to him. Why did the old man care, and why did everyone care now, and why did he care? This wasn't like him. Not at all.

Steph felt like she failed as a sister, as a hero. How could anyone hurt you? You're so sweet, so silly, so kind, yet she did the same. She was no better than the thugs. Duke was completely out of it. You'd catch him muttering to himself, going on all-night patrols, hitting the streets, finding all the info he could, and coming back to your big brother when he finally found you half alive, your locs matted and fizzy. Your glasses were broken, and dirt caked your brown skin. You pushed away from them the second they tried to touch you. You screamed for your mom, crying for her like a baby. Still, she finally showed up, pushing the brick of a man that is Bruce Wayne out of the way, grabbing you like you were a baby that was first put into her arms the second she gave birth to you. The Batfam was heartbroken, especially Bruce. He had made his suit less scary for the last child who cried when they saw him, but even when he took off his cowl and got closer, you still cried and pulled away from him, afraid he might attack you. But he wouldn’t—you’re his baby, after all.
