Prompt:
Instead of Dick or Tim, Red Hood straight up goes for kidnapping Bruce Wayne and keeping him hostage just to see how desperate the birds get in trying to find him.
It’s a foolproof plan. Batman won’t blow his cover unless absolutely necessary, and “Brucie” would never know how to slip away from a crime lord of Red Hood’s caliber. It’s foolproof. It’s perfect. Jason can keep dropping hints and make threats towards the birds and watch Bruce squirm without consequences if he plays this right.
But then “Brucie” keeps begging him not to hurt his kids…

Prompt 122
“Have you met Seal Hood?”
Dick paused almost mid-jump, having apparently turned to the wrong channel but also changed to the perfect one too. At least, perfect in the fact that he had just overheard an interesting thing from Jason, apparently forgetting that his comm was in fact on still.
Damian must have answered, because Jason snorted a laugh. “You can try getting him to leave, he’s taken over my bathtub and keeps eating all my food.”
Hold up, was- Dick had thought Jason was talking about a plush or something, but was he talking about a literal living animal seal??
“I’ll have you know I’m not going to make a poor little baby seal leave, and I’m not putting him in a zoo, brat.”
Oh Gotham, it was a real living animal seal. Dick about faced, rushing towards Jason’s safehouse. How did he get a seal? Why was it in his bathtub?? Why hadn’t he called the proper people for this sort of thing?! He had to get to the safehouse now to see this shit.

DC X DP PROMT #14
Hello my friends! New Promt! Ps. Pick a dc character you want me to fit in a promt. (I like asking questions)
Dick Grayson had no idea what was going on.
Nor did he want to know.
It all started when Bruce informed the family that a recently orphaned Danial Fenton would be coming to stay with them.
Did it bother him? No! Dick was looking forward to having another sibling (dont say he's not Bruce, for God's sake, he has black hair and blue eyes), the only problem was with Damian.
Dick and the family had worked hard to show Damian that everyone was equally loved and that he wasn't getting sent back to the league for simple mistakes.
Dicks biggest achievement was getting Tim and Damian to get along, though they made a rather terrifying duo.
But anyway, that wasn't the point.
The thing was when the boy finally arrived, other then a scowling Damian, everything was fine.
The boy, Danial who liked to be called Danny, was shy and sweet in the beginning and quite nervous to be around the family, but once he warmed he was cracking jokes and puns like their was no tomorrow.
Dick thought it was a bit odd that Danny was so cheerful after just losing his family, but, everyone has their own coping mechanisms, and as long as he didnt decide to pick up a furry costume and prance into the night to fight crime, Dick would support.
Oddly enough, Tim, Damian, and Danny were the ones to get along best, and Dick found it absolutely adorable (at the time. Never mind, no matter their plans, their still cute), though he heard Jason mutter something along the lines of "God damn it, they've band together, we're all doomed."
Which Dick thought was a bit of an exaggeration.
So what if they smiled when news came of lexcorp blown up, and their funds and stocks drastically decreasing.
So what if they sat together laughing adorably (or in Damians case a small warm smile), while surrounded by sheets of paper detailing plans to destroy the league of assassins (Did Danny figure out their identities???)(they called somone named Jazz for advice, should he be concerned?)
So what if when Dick decided to surprise them and barged into their game room to find several assassins and Slade wilson on the floor, tied up masterfully, unable to move a muscle and knocked out while the boys played video games.
It didn't matter, they were adorable.
So why was Dick so frightened now?
Good question.
"Er... Damian why are you and Tim holding Ra's Al Ghul at knife point? And why the FUCK DOES DANNY LOOK LIKE A DAMN ELDRITCH MON- CREATURE!!! AND OH MY GOD, DANNY WHAT IN THE NAME OF DEMENTORS IS THAT, ARE YOU SUCKING OUT HIS SOUL?!?!?!"
Dick might have miscalculated.
Feel free to use or add on!

Why is Annabeth known as a badass strategist and leader?
Genuine question btw. Annabeth has this reputation in the fandom as being 'the best strategist and leader.' What are her top ten impressive moments? I want quotations from the books in the notes and reblogs. Gimme.
TLT: There's the moment in the tunnel of love where Annabeth has the plan to jump using the force of the wave to catapult them over the fence. But the thing is Annabeth miscalculated; if not for Grover intercepting their fall with Luke's shoes they would've fallen on solid concrete and gotten injured or died.
SoM: Annabeth's significant moment in this moment from what I remember is when she used her invisibility cap to lure Polyphemus away from the cave. But she was essentially copying a past hero? And her plan didn't even work as Polyphemus caught her and Annabeth spent the next several chapters being injured/rescued and leaving all the fighting to Percy, Clarisse and Grover.
BOTL: Annabeth was under a lot of pressure due to the last lines of the prophecy, which is understandable. Except instead of coping with that pressure by making plans and relying on her quest mates, she falls apart. She was suppose to be the leader of that quest. And yet in the beginning of the book she loses Grover and Tyson and doesn't find them - doesn't even know they're still alive - until near the end. She leaves Percy in Mount Helens where he's tortured and almost killed. Where are her master strategies? How did she lead them to victory? It was Percy who got Rachel to lead them through the labyrinth, and Grover was the MVP (with Pan's powers) in the actual battle at chb.
TLO: Did Annabeth even have any strategies in this book? She had Dedalus's laptop for about a year - and yet Athena and Hermes (who were very busy fighting Typhon and getting their asses kicked) had to take the time to send a message that was essentially "You have a resource (Dedalus's statue plan in the laptop) sitting in your lap. It's been there for an entire year. Use it." Malcom was the one to lead the Athena cabin while Annabeth followed Percy.
PJO, in general: Annabeth was the Athena cabin leader for all the books. She was co-leader with Luke (if I remember correctly) in the first capture the flag game where she pitted Percy vs. Clarisse & siblings by the river.
MOA: Imo this was the only book where Annabeth really shined. Annabeth's strategy to trap Arachne was amazing until Arachne won by fucking pulling Annabeth into Tartarus, where Percy was the one to defeat Archane in an instant. Annabeth finding the Athena's statue on her own by travelling alone and weaving over the chasm (if I remember correctly) was amazing. But then Rick went and invalidated that by having the other Seven blow open the roof and take the AP, without any help or instruction from Annabeth.
HoO general: Did Annabeth have any leadership moments? I remember seeing a lot of headcanons about it, but in the books all I could find was the poorly written pissing match between Jason and Percy. If anyone could share quotes where Annabeth acts like a leader that would be awesome.
So in summary, for Annabeth's badass strategist and leadership moments:
Being senior Athena cabin leader in the first 4 books.
Annabeth co-leading capture the flag in tlt with Luke
Annabeth travelling to the AP and getting past obstacles like the chasm by weaving (if I remember correctly) in MOA
Annabeth confronting her fears (spiders) and trapping Archane in MOA.
I breezed over most of the series because it's been a long time since I read it while paying specific attention to Annabeth, so I'm sure I missed stuff because tumblr pjo fandom loves Annabeth, so surely there's some content supporting that? Like that admiration isn't soley built on headcanons right?

oh that's ok but batkids reacting to bruce getting hurt in general?
It's such a bizarre feeling for all of them; They all bear marks. Not one bat is without scars; You'd be more of an anomaly if you weren't hurting than if you were.
Jason has his autopsy scars. Dick has calloused hands from all those years of jumping, or deeper memories carved deep in him from his Robin days. Damian carries traces of training where someone his age shouldn't.
They all know; No one with the Wayne name is a stranger to pain.
But Bruce; Bruce has more than all of them. They know, because mending and healing wounds is a family tradition, just as tracing them when snuggling up on a huge bed is.
But they can't conjure a moment in time when Bruce's were fresh. They're all healed and pink and more memory than guests. And it's not as often as them.
It's Tim who figures it out. Those eyes were designed for detail. " You didn't think he took all those vacations to actually relax, right?"
" Bruce's idea of relaxation would send someone in a psych word, so no. So all this time, he went away to...Heal?"
" Something like that. I don't think he'll be successful with this one, thought."
Not even Bruce can walk off a coma.
It wasn't supposed to be that explosive. Bane's twisted little bombs had 5 minutes left on them when Barb checked, and they were supposed to get the hostage to safety on time, and Tim wasn't supposed to miscalculate--
" Your self-employed guilt is no help to anyone, Drake." In Damian language, this passes as It wasn't your fault, so Tim knows him, and knows better, than to put it to heart.
Dick wants the graveyard and sunrise shift, but Jason shuts that down, set in his way. Either they all look after Bruce, or none of them do.
They take turns.
Jason sits by Bruce's bed side with his feet planted deep in the carpet. Shoulders squared, posture ready and stiff for any incoming danger, gun safety off and bullets still hot in their holder. A hell hound made man.
" You're not doing it right."
Tim shoots a dagger of annoyance with his eyes alone, because he hasn't slept in hours, because he's trying to track Bane down, because he needs to send that bastard packing straight to Arkham's smallest cell.
All while maintaining some degree of calm as he tries to change Bruce's bandages, " I'm a genius, not a nurse."
" Maybe if you actually watched Grey's Anatomy like the rest of us normal people, --"
" Just because it helped Bruce get through med school--"
" If you're a selective genius, just say that."
" I'd rather be a part time genius than a full time idiot--"
" Dick!" Jason calls, but, Tim privately thinks he's hoping Bruce would answer, " Timberly's mean to me again!"
" Am not!"
" If you guys don't stop I'll tell B!"
Because he will wake up; He has to. Before Batman, there was Bruce Wayne, and if there's one dog to bet on in Gotham City, it's him.
Cass makes sure Bruce has clean sheets. That his burns are medicated and tamed and watches very closely for any sign of discomfort. Bruce winces at the small cotton ball of alcohol and there's a collective breath of relief.
Alfred makes sure they have sleep. That Jason won't wayward his way into a battle he'll regret and take Damian with him. That Dick actually has some sleep. That Duke and Cass are updated on patrol.
They're fearful. Every breath they take are like small stones stacked up on top, waiting to drop to the core of their bellies as a week passes and there's no sign of Bruce even flinching anymore.
Of course, when he does, -- because he always does, -- it's when they bicker. Tim can't remember who started it. He said something, and then Damian tossed a snarky comment because he's mean when he's scared, and --
" Can you be nice to eachother for 10 minutes?"
They all jump on him; He hisses, every numb nerve in his muscles buzzing back to life, but he's being squeezed and embraced and hugged in the ground by his kids, so it's not the worst fate in the world.
" Did I miss something?"
" Jason crushed the Batmobile."
" TIM!"

For whatever reason I keep going angsty routes…
(Jaytim engame with unrequited jaydick)
Jay who had a crush on Dick that went from admiration/jealousy to big ass crush that persisted even after he came back from the dead, guns blazing and angry. Once his anger and frustrations about Bruce settled down his crush for the first Robin remained strong even though Dickie just saw him as a little brother. Still, he knows he’d do anything for him. Anything to erase that sad frown on his face. Even go, apologize to the replace- ahem, Tim, try to make amendments and at least befriend him, keep an eye on him and help Dickie get closer to Tim again. Dickie feels guilty for taking Robin away from Tim but he did not have a better option, Damian needed him….problem is, Tim needed him too. He knows that now. He wants to fix it… but he doesn’t know how to get closer to Tim anymore, not with the animosity between Damian and Tim on the way.
So, seeing Dickie so heartbroken about how his relationship with Tim has deteriorated after he gave Robin to Damian, then the Bruce Quest and then Tim being mostly on his own base of operations, Jason offers to help. How? The hell if he knows he just knows he hates seeing Dick that way and the replacement needs to understand the demon brat needed guidance. He is an assassin yes but still a kid.
So, Jason, the good samaritan he is(?), walks in to make amends with Tim…he owed him that much to be fair, try to befriend him and find a way to make a bridge between Tim and Dickie. Problem is he made a few miscalculations: it was somehow easy to approach Tim, easy to get to know him if you actually tried (the man wasn’t hiding, no one cared nor took the time to look), easy to understand how unfair it all was for him as well, easy to fall for his little quirks, easy to realize how similar they were at the fundamental level.
Would’ve been nice if he realized Tim had a crush on him before he went and absolutely smashed Tim’s heart when he realized Jason had a crush on Dick and only approached Tim in the first place because he wanted to help Dickie get his other little brother back.
It would also have been nice if he realized earlier how hard he had fallen for Tim.

DPxDC prompt - Poison cookies?
Anger Management (Jazz/Jason)
Established relationship - post reveals.
Jazz is trying a new cookie recipe and miscalculates and makes a fuck ton of cookies so she asks Jason if he could pass them along to his goons?
The cookies are not bad but they taste weird and some suspect they are actually poison, but if Red Hood says they are from his girlfriend/wife and she wants feedback, you have to eat them, or else

THINKING ABOUT B&R BECAUSE OF THIS EXCELLENT FIC. and what it gets so right that u don’t see in other fics and i think it is that many other newly orphaned dick Grayson characterizations are not calibrated right, specifically when they make him TOO rebellious/spiteful/angry/childish/crybabyish. I also don’t think that he was overwhelmed by the responsibility of robin or by the insane quantity and intensity of training. I think he really respected the whole enterprise and took it sincerely and seriously and viewed, as the others do, it as something sort of sacred. He was used to high stakes and excruciating training with his parents. And in the early years of robin with bruce is so new and bruce has doubts in the back of his mind so dick DEFINITELY does not get frustrated or scream or lose his temper at bruce because he’s tired or overwhelmed when he’s being corrected because that is a sign of not being ready worthy or mature enough for the enterprise. And he’s very conscious of that but i think the whole dick-has-a-temper reactive-to-fanon discourse has diluted the fact that he is also very responsible and steady. So i think he took his knocks and when bruce criticized him and explained what dick did wrong after knocking dick to his back on the training mats, dick nodded silently and got back up and did it again and he didn’t go cry about it. Like he is an angry traumatized kid so you would not expect him to take Bruce’s training—i mean Dick is seriously getting his ass kicked and pushed beyond his already far limits, to approach what Batman is, which is canonically the “[embodiment of] everything Man can ever hope to be,” as in the apex of physiological and mental human achievement and endurance which is obvi a laborrrrrrr—with that maturity and diligence or humility because no other child would. BECAUSE ANY ORHER CHILD WOULD SNAP OR JUST NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE IT. most adults too. but dick does take it and he runs away it with it too because he is not any other child and he is different and he is I THINK like bruce in some deepdown implicit way as in the soul way or just the fact that they both operate and have operated their whole lives with simply more spiritual moral and mental horsepower than other people but just that DRIVE and MOTIVATION and desire for precision and excellence is something they both & i don’t think he would whine or kvetch he would drink every second of education he could get from bruce and enjoy it and that’s why the whole Batman and Robin experience and relationship is SO EDIFYING for both of them.
And dick’s preternatural ability to humbly learn and push past his limits and actually and sorry to use a 3rd grade teacher lessonplanning word here but SYNTHESIZE what bruce is teaching him is not just unlike what any other person could put forth in Bruce’s training—but it is also the reason for Bruce’s fatal miscalculation with training a young Jason, who is also intelligent discerning and BRILLIANT but who doesnt have That.

Head cannon
Nico used to come to Will with excuses of being injured to spend more time with him and Will caught on quickly but didn't mind he may have even found it entertaining but he ended up offering to let Nico volunteer to help around the infirmary as time went on though there was a time where Jason and Percy busted through the infirmary doors with an exhausted Nico that insisted that he was fine.
Will, with a puzzled expression asked what was wrong.
Percy had tried to get Nico to show will the injury or atleast explain how he got it but all he could get out of him was that he had shadow traveled too far and ended up across the globe. It took a while but Nico finally gave in and just showed Will the Deep cut in his lower torso (Abdomen). At the moment it was bleeding not too bad until he had removed the cloth that he had used when applying pressure to the wound.
Turns out Nico had gotten himself in such a situation he ended up with a 2 inch deep slash to the abdomen. He would never explain what had happened to him when he had miscalculated the distance to shadow travel and ended up in peru.
Will was shocked half to death but went straight to work in trying to help Nico and in the end he wanted to scold Nico for ending up in this situation but had no idea what to scold him about so he ended up explaining to him that he cant just push people away and neglect his own needs.

Hey! Was wondering if you'd had any more thoughts on the bard eddie/secret knight steve AU? It was written so beautifully and includes a really interesting aspect of eddie's character that I don't think a lot of people address in steddie fic - namely that he can be quite narrow minded and assume things about people based on very shallow characteristics. But I think he'd grow really well and make genuine amends once confronted so I'd be so interested to see that in your fic!!!
hi first of all, thank you so much 🥺🥰😭 it's kinda wild to me that it stuck with you all this time the way it did!!
and now, a whole entire month after you sent this ask, i can finally tell you (a whole entire month later) that i do have more bard!eddie x knight!steve thoughts!!!!!
i agree that eddie, so hellbent on defending himself, of defying social norms or expectations, and with all his disdain for The Man, would have many instances of stubbornly but ultimately accidentally wounding or offending people. especially steve.
but i also want him to have his eyes so violently and unmistakably opened. i want him to rethink his picture of his knight and of lord harrington. to connect the two visions, to see lord harrington for who he is. he gets his entire world turned upside down after all, and that sucks. but for his words to have brought only pain to the man he thought himself to be in love with??? that is even worse for him. and he feels guilt for the expression on steve's face. he feels dumb and vain and so, so guilty.
one scene i had in mind while writing part one was steve kinda defending eddie's name and honour, not in a grand gesture, but by out-sassing whoever it is that dares to badmouth eddie. and that's what this is about.
again: part 1 is here
shortly after the end of part 1, eddie is asked to play at a banquet in the castle, and he sort of just. doesn't. robin takes his stead while eddie wallows in misery and guilt and tries to find a way to connect the knight and lord harrington in his head, tries to wrap his head around the whole situation and alleviate the guilt he's feeling. so he doesn't play.
jason carver, who is one of the castle guards or maybe just another knight (by rank, not by skill, bc he's more show-off than fighter and certainly not as interested in propriety and such), bad mouths eddie. says, loudly, that he's glad it's not eddie who's playing tonight but rather someone with an actually good voice and talent etc
and then i want eddie to freeze before getting ready to retaliate, but actually it's steve who talks from behind eddie (eddie hadn't seen him come in... not that he was looking or something).
"such vile words from someone who knows neither talent nor skill himself."
and jason flushes red with anger, knowing there's nothing he can say or do against lord harrington who outranks him in both title and popularity. but steve's not done yet.
"you know, carver, i found myself pondering if upon the arrival of eddie you would find yourself starving for his attention again. and here you are indeed, yearning for his words directed at you, aching for his attention, wishing for him to dedicate one of his songs to you, write one in your honour, in fact. unfortunately you have miscalculated, sir carver, for you are too irrelevant for bardic muse, and too much of a coward for heroic tales."
and steve just smiles at him, aloof and challenging, condescending in that way he has; aware that most everyone at the surrounding tables has their attention firmly on jason and himself, directing their attention away from eddie and instead to carver's burning face and the way he's sputtering for a response.
and i want eddie to look at steve with big, big eyes. and steve to turn away without another word, just returning to chrissy or something (or robin, if she's done with her set/not started yet). and eddie is just. breathless. because he's still connecting lord harrington with his knight, but that undoubtedly was lord harrington in all his aloof, sassy, condescending, competent glory, using it to defend eddie's honour.
and now it's eddie who's yearning. and aching. and just. fucking standing there, frozen to the spot. because steve essentially obliterated any further and future attempts of jason's to hurt eddie's name or reputation, or even just look at him wrong.
and eddie doesn't understand because steve is supposed to hate him.
i want eddie to follow him then, ask him why he did that (or make him be stupid, tell him "you didn't have to do that" or "i had that under control")
only for steve to just soften a little, and say, "jason carver wouldn't know talent if it spit in his face. which is not a suggestion."
and eddie, a little beside himself, laughs. smiles. "you think i have talent, lord harrington?"
"i would be both liar and fool to say otherwise. you have a way with words that has yet to be matched."
and eddie flushes, with excitement and guilt alike, because that very same way with words is what hurt lord harrington. eddie's way with words robbed him of living with his own experiences and nightmares for himself. eddie's way with words exposed the knight's suffering to the world.
and yet here he is. admiring. and eddie just stands there, looking at those eyes that shine in the light of candles and torches like they never shone before. and he loses himself in them for a second, because lord harrington holds his gaze, too. he's looking back. and maybe he sees the guilt, the plea for forgiveness, the admiration and adoration and gratitude.
eddie hopes he does. because the words are lodged in his throat as the world around them fades away and there are only the two of them left.
at least, until lord harrington steps closer, eyes still firmly holding eddie's, and eddie's breath hitches, becuase god, he's so close, he's still coming closer, his lips are–
right beside eddie's ear as he says, "you should not look at me like that. word has it the only thing in my cold heart is disdain for all things beautiful. good night, eddie munson."
and then steve is gone again, returned to his friends and admirers, while eddie just feels like he should run. calm his rapid heart and find the nearest quill, because his fingers are itching to write.

Dude, what if Jay & Kitty can't fly without Jason's bike, but they can glide & slow their falling just fine?
While definitely intresting, it wouldn't make a whole Lotta sense to me. 🤔
Unless this was during the portion of the two of them trying to figure out their halfa abilities. (Despite the fact that, they probably won't be flying anywhere anyways since grappling hooks are a thing along with rooftops.)
I feel like they technically COULD. But it would be easier to just use the bike to fly.
Tho seeing them miscalculate and fall, only to find they were basically hovering about an inch off the floor would be intresting!

Static crackles over the phone, Dave choking on cigarette smoke no doubt, “S’cuse me, what?”
Jason doesn’t laugh. It’s not funny.
“I said to shoot the Bats.”
Another staticky sound, “Boss, I- even Robin?”
Jason takes a deep breath, “Yes.”
“But, uh, sir, Robin’s a kid, are you-“
“He’s sixteen,” Jason snaps, “I was fifteen when I die-“ He cuts himself off, breathing deeply.
On the other end of the line, Dave is silent.
“He’s not a kid,” the words burn in his throat, “You don’t get to be a kid in those colors, Dave. Just fucking do as I say.”

The batkids have an ongoing competition to see who can get Bruce the funniest gag gift for his birthday, father's day or Christmas. Steph and Tim have the most wins, Cass and Jason the least. Cass because she doesn't care about the competition and just uses it as an excuse to gift Bruce random things with the bat logo and Jason because he keeps miscalculating what the rest of the family will find funny.

“odds are if jason dies again it’s bruce’s fault” i am a firm believer that jason died at the end of utrh, from bruce SLITTING HIS THROAT. so it’s not like it doesn’t have precedent. also bruce is indirectly responsible for jason dying the first time anyways. the better question is: will jason’s deaths ever NOT be bruce’s fault?
Oh Bruce straight up murdered Jason, no doubt. I had a whole thing about it a few months ago and got so much anon hate for it. I won't call it a take, because he did it, but people hate to acknowledge it. Bruce is generally at fault for most of his kids' deaths/traumas. Dick only got shot in the head as a punishment for Bruce 🤦‍♀️
I tagged this as "Bruce killed jason" which I believe is my tag for aforementioned controversy should you want to see the posts. But yes, no doubt in my mind that Jason was dead at the end of UTRH by the hands of Bruce. It simply did not stick because DC miscalculated how popular Jason would be.

I need some angst in my life.
Good news for you, I just got back from going to be the family disappointment.
At first, Jason thought you were just going to cry. To break into sobs as you tell yourself to get it together.
It isn't until the first spider webbed cracks appear in the mirror that he realizes he has made a grave miscalculation.
The hits keep coming with every jagged breath, blood spattering the silvered surface as he rushes forward, pinning your arms to your side and dragging you backward. Struggling to hold you as he lowers you to the floor and you spend what's left of your sudden rage fighting against his grip.
"Baby girl-"
"Don't touch me," you gasp, pushing him away, "Don't fucking touch me."
His hands go up in surrender as he kneels just a few feet away, "I'm not," he said softly. And he watches helplessly as you lay on the floor, your hand weeping blood as your cheek rests on the cool tile. Hair covering your face.
"It doesn't matter what I do," you murmur wiping your nose on your sleeve and smearing blood on your face. "I'm never going to be enough."
"Enough for who?" he asked softly, "For them?" He made a soft incredulous noise. "Baby they're alcoholics. They're not good enough for-"
"All I want is for them to fucking love me," you murmur. "I keep doing all this shit. I keep-"
"You keep torturing yourself, and for what?"
"Because I'm stupid-"
"Because you love them more than they deserve," he corrected, tucking hair behind your ear carefully so he could see your eyes. Tears were still leaking even if you weren't trembling and sobbing. "I can't change what they did to you. But I love you. I love you so much that sometimes I forget to hate myself."
"It's a horrible decision, really-"
"Maybe," he murmured, smiling a little. "But when have I ever done anything good for me?"

Ice Queen
“Is it true what they say?” Hailey asks as you walk through the hall after the last period. “That of all the guys in Hawkins, Eddie Munson was the one to break through the Ice Girl's heart?”
You haven't heard that nickname in a long time. People used to call you that because you only had one boyfriend, many years ago, and besides that, no other guy ever got too close, not romantically. You didn't mind it enough to hate it, so you just shrug. “People only say that because I didn't want to date any of the idiots from the team.”
“Hey.” She exclaims. “I date someone from the team.”
“Isn't he an idiot?” Glancing at her, you offer a smile because Hailey isn't one of the bad. She was the first to call you, right after you got home, apologizing. And she wasn't even one of the girls who were supposed to break your fall.
Hailey giggles, and nods. “Sometimes.”
“I thought so.” When you reach the hall that leads to the Principal's office, you stop. “I'll go in now. Talk to you later.” Waving, you go your own way, meeting Eddie by the Principal's door. “Didn't mean to make you wait.”
“I just got here.” He steps closer, placing a kiss on your cheek. “For luck.”
“I'll have you with me for luck.” Smiling, you softly knock on the door. “Principal Norton?”
“Come in, please.” The voice on the other side says and both you and Eddie go inside.
It takes some time to explain to Mr. Norton everything that happened because he has no idea of what happens in this school. But once he gets a grip of it, of course, he doesn't believe you. “Mr. Carver has always been a very good student, on behavior and grades both... More than I can say about Mr. Munson here.”
“Ouch,” Eddie exclaims.
You gasp. “Are you saying you don't believe Eddie because he has bad grades? Excuse me, Mr. Norton, but were your grades always exceptional?”
He shakes his head. “No, but they were never as bad as Eddie's are.”
“If his word and mine isn't enough, you have the doctor's papers. I had a concussion. My back still hurt, and I assure you those girls didn't look worried when I fell. They looked-”
“Terrified. And guilty.” Eddie adds, and you nod. “When they came back from talking with the guys from the team, their posture was different. I should have said something, but I'd never guess they'd so something like that.”
The Principal nods. “So you're also accusing the girls?”
“No. Jason is the head of this. Who knows what he told them? Jason is not the person he makes other people believe, Principal Norton.”
“I'm so sorry, but I don't see what I can do. The girls say it was a miscalculation, I can't proceed with just some speculations.”
As you expected. “Alright. I'll take this to the police.”
“You don't have to-”
“I'll take this to the police.” Repeating, you get up. “You have allowed bullying to roam free in this school. My brother was one of the many who suffered from it. And this is the result. When kids are allowed to call other kids funny names, laugh at their differences and go unpunished, name-calling becomes this.” You make a vague gesture. “I could have had some serious trauma, you can confirm that with the doctor. Thank you so much for your help, Principal Norton. You'll be hearing from me very soon.”
You're still speaking when the yelling starts, and just as Mr. Norton gets up, alarmed, Jason bursts through the door. “That Freak!” He says, yelling at the top of his lungs. “He screwed up my car! He-” His voice is cut short when his eyes finally acknowledge Eddie. Than you.
It's so freaking hard not to smile. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“I know you did it, Freak. You'll pay for it.” Jason steps closer to Eddie, but just as you'll move to stand between the two men, Eddie steps forward, pushing you behind him.
“Care to explain it, Mr. Carver, instead of making accusations?” Mr. Norton inquires.
“All the door locks of my car are screwed. This Freak shoved something in there and broke it. I can't open it.”
Mr. Norton gives Eddie a look. “Mr. Munson has been in here for over an hour.”
“Then one of his cult members did it.”
“The Club is off today. They're probably already gone.” Eddie says, and Principal nods.
“I will not accept false accusations, Mr. Carver. I get kids to have their... Enmities. But this has gone too far.”
“Then who? Who could have done it?”
“Anyone from this school.” You say, looking at Jason from behind Eddie's shoulder. “Or middle school. Or anyone from town. You have a lot of people who don't buy your good boy act, Jason. We're not the only ones.”
“You think I-”
“Enough!” Mr. Norton cuts off Jason's shout, raising a hand. “I'll try to find who did it, but it wasn't Mr. Munson. Now you will all leave and go home. If I hear of any fights, even outside the school hours or school grounds, I'll act upon it.”
With that, you all left the Principal's office. Jason went right out, walking fast, and you followed on a much slower pace with Eddie. “We did it.” You whisper, a smile on your face. “The very first blow, and we already cleared our names.”
“I would pay to have seen his face.”
“He probably got as red as a tomato.” Holding the laughter, you hold Eddie's arm. “His nightmare has just begun.”
•••
A week later, you're having lunch, your chair put next to Eddie's on the head of the table as you take this short time to help him with some last doubts about his coming Biology and Chemistry, books and notebooks spread on the table.
But then, Jason comes, causing everyone to go silent. You know it's him, without even looking. But you have to pretend you don't. “What's going on?” You ask, your voice just loud enough for some of the nearby tables to listen.
A lot of people start getting up, and you and Eddie do the same. “Holy shit!” He exclaims, getting an angry look from Jason.
The guy ignores the stares, and sit's down at this usual table. His hair is buzzed, almost all gone. This time is very hard not to laugh. But you hold it back, taking deep breaths.
Sitting back down, you bit your lip, and Eddie is trying as hard as you. Under the table, he takes your hand, squeezing it, and you do the same.
When lunch is over, you wish him good luck and go on with your class. By the end of the period, you join the cheerleaders, but the doctor asked you to take it slow, so you decide to let Hailey be the flyer this time, and dance on the ground. You don't mind. And to be honest, you rather not risk falling again.
Eddie stays in the bleachers, his eyes locked on you, much as he has been doing ever since you started training again. You told him many times he doesn't have to, but he insisted. And you can't say you don't like that he's protective.
An hour later, you come from the locker room, hair still a bit wet, jogging to him.
“Ready to go?”
“Yes, my Lady.” He takes your arm on him, and you make your way to the parking lot. “I don't like that you're training. You should rest.”
“It's been a while and the doctor said I could train again, just keep it down a bit.”
“Just don't do any crazy jumps. They might still be up to do what Jason tells them to.”
Stopping by his car, you turn to look at him. “You know what they're saying? About me?”
“That I'm thawing a certain ice heart?” Eddie says with a smile.
“So you've heard it.”
“I did, and it made me happy.” He comes closer, closer than before, and you have to raise your head to look into his eyes. “The Crazy Farmer and the Ice Queen...”
“I like how it sounds.” You admit, biting your lip.
