Disclaimer: this is just how I perceive things as a trans queer person. Not everything I have to say is 100% factually proven.
TWs for suicide mentions and homophobia/transphobia
the urge to write a fully cited, grammatically profound article of why the lgbt community is still threatened for those with the mindset that "they have pride parades so obviously they're not oppressed".
Honey.
Clearly you're rotting your three braincells browsing the Twitter of bigots like Rowling and Musk and acting like you're so fucking smart.
Look at the fucking news.
82% of trans people have considered killing themselves (circa April 2020). Around 40% have attempted.
The worst part? This rate is highest among children. Fucking children are killing themselves because of this.
Bullying isn't helping shit, transphobia in general isn't helping shit, and these new laws certainly aren't helping shit.
In at least 66 countries, even being suspected of being gay is punishable by law. And you call us "pampered"? Not everyone has the money to emigrate to a safe country. Not everyone is safe.
So let me ask you this.
Do you know anyone who has been disowned for being straight? Who has been arrested for being cis? Do you and your black and white pebble for a brain know of any anti-hetero laws being put into action recently? Ever?
That's what I fucking thought.
We wave our flags and hold parades to show how far we've come and how much further we'll go, not to flaunt or say we're better. There's so much left to do and accomplish, just so we have the same rights as cishets. Calling us "pampered" or "snowflakes" is exactly what we're trying to fight against, and the fact you're spreading that misinformation will only encourage us to hold more parades.
Because clearly, there's more work to do.

To all the people who think aspec people aren't LGBTQIA+ because we aren't "discriminated against enough", here's a lovely list of reasons why you need to educate yourself:
- We suffer from dehumanisation, people actively devaluing or even erasing our humanity because of our identities (The voidpunk community is heavily supported by aspec people because of this)
- We suffer from self hatred due to feeling as if and being told we are broken, that no one can be happy unless they're in a romantic/sexual relationship, because of allonormativity and amatonormativity that actively damages our mental health
- Amatonormativity shapes laws that put us at an active disadvantage, such as giving married people financial and legal benefits
- Aspec people have been victims of conversion therapy, correctional rape, a lower quality of life, and other effects of being a marginalised and oppressed group
- We suffer from our identities being pathologised and deal with medical stigma because of this, causing many of us to feel unwelcome in and even avoid health care settings
- We suffer from our identities being erased, which can range from people completely denying our existence and people equating it to celibacy, to an almost complete absence of aspec representation in the media (It's been getting better lately, especially for alloaces and aroaces, but I have yet to ever see a canon aroallo character, and representation for those on the spectrum rather than in the extremes is often ignored)
- YOU are creating a hateful, exclusionary space in a community meant to be about inclusion. The same thing that happens to us happens to bisexual people, to polyamorous people, and other identities that are "disputed." In a community meant to be about rejecting the norm, YOU are shoving us out because we don't fit the norm of being LGBTQIA+. Because we're not enough like you.
These are only a few examples of aphobia that people like me deal with. Discrimination and oppression against aspec people stretches far beyond this.
But even if it didn't, it is disrespectful and harmful to everyone involved to gatekeep membership in the community based on oppression and discrimination.
We aren't LGBTQIA+ because we experience oppression. We are LGBTQIA+ because our existence alone goes against heteronormativity and other societal norms forced upon us.

i feel inclined to differentiate between "reasonable rights and accommodations that should be given to trans people" and "blatant attacks on women's rights." i'll go as far as to say that most radical feminists will agree with me on most of these points, so if you want to learn about what radfems actually believe, this is your chance.
reasonable rights and accommodations for trans people:
equal opportunities for employment and housing
access to affordable and high-quality healthcare
transparent, unbiased, and publicly accessible research & meta-analysis done on the short- and long- term risks and benefits of gender affirming care
outlaw all forms of conversion therapy. outlaw gender exploratory therapy unless the patient is able to give informed consent. enforce strict science-based regulations on the therapeutic methods used
freedom of expression (i.e. the ability to dress however you like, and to use a preferred name)
widespread implementation of co-ed and trans-only spaces
legal protection against harassment and assault
these are all things that i, and many other radical feminists, wholeheartedly support. we also believe that trans people, like everyone else, deserve dignity, respect, sensitivity, and kindness from the people around them. what i'm seeing more and more of in recent years, though, is that the trans movement is no longer focusing on the aforementioned human rights. instead, i see an overwhelming about of trans activists making unreasonable demands that infringe on the rights of women. the demands are as follows:
the right to enter women-only spaces based solely on gender identity or expression (this includes shelters, prisons, locker rooms, and sports teams)
the ability to access medical transition as a minor under any circumstances, or as an adult unless other treatments have proven unsuccessful beforehand
widespread use of language that destabilizes women and female people as coherent groups that are also in need of rights
deplatforming anyone who criticizes the movement, no matter how polite, respectful, good-faith, or reasonable the criticisms are
i support the trans movement that advocates for the human rights of trans individuals. however, i cannot support a movement that allows males into women's spaces, that is medically irresponsible, that makes it impossible to discuss women's rights, or that opposes intellectual freedom. i don't think any feminist can support this in good conscience.

hey, have you heard of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)? it's a law that's been introduced to the US senate a few times now, and it's coming back. here's the most recent version of the bill.
wel, what would KOSA do? it's goal is to "protect children online", as the name would suggest, by having online content algorithms changed in the US. it'd also make it illegal for social medias and "addictive" internet feed to notify you at night or during school hours. the billmakers like to depict it as saving teenagers from body images, substance abuse , addiction and the likes, but it's not.
what KOSA aims to do is to shield children and teenagers from progressiveness. this law will create censorship for every single marginalized community, including POC, LGBTQ+, and women. this law is pure censorship and only aims to create less transgender folks in this "free" america.
i urge you to fight back. censorship laws are already being passed everywhere in america, and there is a very real chance this can be passed as well. if you value freedom on the internet, and especially if you're LGBTQ+, please take a moment to visit these links.
stopKOSA.com lets you sign a petition easily and directly call your lawmaker's office.
omarsbigsister's linktree has a script on what to say, as well as many resources on KOSA. (go check out @omarsbigsister on tiktok, she has good input on KOSA and is cool!!)

Hot take:
I, as a person part of the LGBTQ+ community, don't feel safe in it.
I'm a (genderfluid) trans man, amongst other things. But in the community I get ostracized, because I'm a man. Yes, a lot of (cis) men have privilege. But I'm not a cis man. My community's oppression is being swiped under the rug because we're men, people are claiming we have privilege because of our gender. But being men doesn't take away our oppression.
It hurts me seeing other queer people, especially other trans people, claiming we don't face oppression unique to us. You're supposed to get it, you face the same kind of thing, and then you turn around and say we're exaggerating. That we have privilege over trans women and nonbinary folk. You're siding with the transphobes here.
We, as trans people, are supposed to stick together and fight for all of our rights. We're supposed to support each other.
Transmascs are no less oppressed just because we're men. This is not the oppression Olympics.
Let me repeat:
This is not the oppression Olympics.

The thing is, most people (in the US and Western countries at least, that’s where my experience is from) have some forms of privilege some forms of oppression. This isn’t saying everyone is equally oppressed and privileged, but most people have privilege in at least one way and oppression in at least one way.
And if you experience oppression in some ways and privilege, it’s much easier to see your oppression then you privilege.
Privilege is largely invisible to those who have it. Oppression grates against you all the time. So it’s much easier to see the forms of oppression you experience then the forms of privilege.
That’s why it’s so important for us all to listen to each other and not play Oppression Olympics. You can face very real oppression that really affects your life, and still learn a lot from other people who face other forms of oppression that you don’t. We have to listen to each other. In the queer community especially I think this is important, because there’s so many different ways to be oppressed and to be privileged.

"Ghana's parliament has passed a tough new bill that imposes a prison sentence of up to three years for anyone convicted of identifying as LGBTQ+.
It also imposes a maximum five-year jail term for forming or funding LGBTQ+ groups.
Lawmakers heckled down attempts to replace prison sentences with community service and counselling.
It is the latest sign of growing opposition to LGBTQ+ rights in the conservative West African nation.
The bill, which had the backing of Ghana's two major political parties, will come into effect only if President Nana Akufo-Addo signs it into law. He previously said that he would do so if the majority of Ghanaians want him to.
Gay sex is already against the law in Ghana - it carries a three-year prison sentence."

LGBTQ Christians, like a lot of Christians, value their feelings and comfort over the very real harm caused by Christianity and the people who've been harmed by it. Good for you that your denomination is affirming and you have every right to practice the religion of your choice but how fucking dare you try to dictate how people should feel about a god and religion that has been used as a tool to oppress the very community you're a part of.

I am so done.
Yes. This is a vent. I was just minding my own buisness when I saw a video called "aesexuals arent lgbtqia+". I thought It was content covering why they in fact are lgbtqia+, but I was shocked to see the description. It said "It always amuses me that this video still, to this day, gets the most 'hate'. If you aren't same sex attracted, you aren't a part of the gay community. Why does it annoy you so much that you don't belong to a group that has historically and continues today, to face so much oppression and violence?" Which is flat out untrue. If you look at modern day scocietey, aros, aesexuals, and aroaces are still being oppressed and discriminated, and acted violently upon. It has been going on scince people accepted it was a thing, and it is still going on. Also, i'm 99% sure the person who made that was a lesbian. Why would you discriminate against your own community? It feels like not even online is a safe place anymore.
Sorry that its not your typical post from me, but I needed support, and wanted to cover this topic. Thank you for reading.

This captures it. Chappell Roan is rightfully disillusioned by the two-party system.
Here are some of the correct responses to her (justified) criticism of the U.S. government.

how it feels trying to explain to people that even though I’m genderqueer I’ll never be able to fully detach myself from my womanhood because it so heavily affected how I was raised and was used as an excuse for poor treatment and violence when I was young that I can’t simply pretend as though that part of me never had a bearing on my life and never will again

This video was just a clip of someone going around a pride festival or some event like that, and asking what people identify as. It was all fine, everyone was happy. Until I opened the fucking comments. This entire app (newsbreak) is fucking stupid. The homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, literally everything-phobia is so widespread I'm fucking sick of it. Sorry if I sound angry or actually triggered, but this is the only social media app I can have (I'm using web Tumblr) and I have to deal with other people saying everyone different than them needs to fucking die. Plus they use religion as an excuse to hide behind their hate instead of just letting these people live their lives. Like Jesus fucking christ. Get over your critical selves. Goddamn.
Reblog (if u want) to share and show others how fucking ridiculous this is. This is why I'm leaving the goddamn church when I get out of the house.

Man like almost a week ago my family asked this guy to take a photo of us and there was a person who was walking with him and I looked them over and thought this looked like a cool person, then I saw their shoes and there was a trans flag beaded onto the shoelaces. Then I looked up at their face and they were looking at my own shoelaces with rainbows beaded onto them and we both kinda looked at each other and smiled
Like bro that was cool
