Sleeping Over at Ramshackle w/Azul

*Note: Yes, this is a repost of this fic story. I have a feeling that it got lost due to the original tags that it had, so I am reposting to see if that changes. For those who have read this already, I do apologize for the annoyance that I'm causing.

Azul is a very, very busy business man. He is not one to take breaks from making sure the Monstro Lounge is in perfect order unless anything school related keeps him away from the Octavinelle Dorm. In the case of his upcoming alchemy exam, Azul cannot afford to slip a few grades all for the sake of working. Although he would normal go to the Housewarden’s bed chamber to hit the books, Azul knows that there is a good chance that chaos will ensue, and he refuses to take part in it.

He can go to Heartslabyul to study with Riddle, but being more than aware of Riddle’s studying tactics, Azul would rather not handle the stress.

He can go to Scarabia; Kalim is always welcoming. Jamil…not so much. Even then, Azul will be too distracted to even remember his studying mission.

He can go to Ignihyde, but Idia is too good at studying that he can recite the textbook while playing one of his many video games.

There is only one more option left.

You agree that you can use a study partner, so while on the phone with Azul, you offer him a place to stay to avoid any more trouble. Azul can’t thank you enough.

You don’t have much in terms of study food, and you hope Azul won’t mind the remnants of snacks that Ace and Deuce brought over from yesterday (which is popcorn and oranges). By the time you set the coffee table up, the awaited knock appears at the front door.

Azul’s uniform is a little more disheveled than usual, but you take in the assumption of him having to deal with some last minute problem-solving as to why he looks the way he looks. Azul thanks you again for welcoming him to your dorm for the evening.

In truth, having the most “sane” of the Octavinelle trio is better than all three of them at once. You just hope the tweels don’t tag alone.

“Rest assured that I will be your only guest this evening. Housewarden’s honor.” Azul’s voice is at its most collected. How assuring indeed. “Before we get started, you don’t mind if I go to the washroom and change into something more comfortable, do you?”

“I don’t see why not,” you reply.

As Azul makes his way up the stairs, you commence hitting the books for homework. You have five minutes of quiet until Azuzl returns in his change of clothes. You nearly choke on the orange slice as you gaze at the lounge attire, fit for a business mogul, that the Octavinelle Housewarden has draped. If this is Azul’s definition of comfortable, you need to update your ideas about the octo-mermaid’s tastes.

Leona nor Vil can never.

Azul smirks. “I’m aware that the eyes often speak more than the lips, but I would appreciate you being able to breath before your face turns blue.”

You snap out of your infatuated daydream. “Is that real silk?” you question.

Azul flicks his robe sleeves. “Indeed. Comfort is bliss, you know.”

You stutter, trying to get out how Azul can own something so delicate looking.

“It was a birthday gift from my parents after doing so well my first semester of school. I could never take this back home, so I keep this and the majority of my terrestrial belongings in proper storage. No need to be concerned. I take care of everything that belongs to me.” His eyes light up. “Oh, that reminds me.” Azul ruffles through his overnight bag and pulls out another robe of similar fabric, folded neatly as if it has just come out of the packaging. “I couldn’t come to your abode without a thank-you gift for your patronage.”

Your heart nearly stops at the sight of this “thank-you gift.” “You didn’t have to do this.”

“Nonsense. This should keep you warm in this rickety, old place. With all of that said, should we get started?”

The both of you decide to tackle math first. It’s not your favorite subject, but better finish it now than later. That doesn’t help algebra from not kicking you in the ass though. Simple equations are nothing, but the longer the math problem, the more it makes you flinch.

“Do you know what a balancing scale is?”

“Yeah?” you reply as if Azul is joking.

“Math is exactly like that. You need both sides to be equal in order for it to appear straight.” Azul scoots closer to you, pencil pointing at your textbook. “To find out the missing number, you have to use everything else to make the other side equal. Let’s start here.” He leans over, using his pencil as a guide for your eyes.

His closeness adds heat to your skin. You try to keep your focus on his mentoring, but your heart is pounding like dough being slapped onto a cutting board. Azul is so deep into his mini lesson that he doesn’t seem to notice your stiffness.

“You seem a little too good at this,” you mutter.

Azul snickers. “Math is quite like alchemy. You cannot make less or more than what the ritual requires. If a factor is missing, you have to equal everything out. I hope this makes more sense.”

“Me too…”

Upstairs, now that you’re all cozy for the night, you complete the look with your new silk robe, similar to Azul’s in style, but colored blue to bring some color into your wardrobe. The new fabric scent whiffs into your nostrils like the spring breeze. You feel guilty for accepting such a gift, but you don’t want to hurt Azul’s feelings by returning it.

Speaking of him, he knocks on the door, and you permit him entrance. He enters the room with your school books in hands. “You left these back in the foyer.”

“Oh…right. Thank you, Azul.”

Azul carefully sits them on your nightside table. “Would you mind if I studied alchemy with you?”

“With me? I’m about to pass out soon.”

“Well, maybe my read-along will help you with that.” He sits himself on the right side of the bed and watches you join him on the other side. He opens his book wide enough that you can read along with Azul if you like. Azul has you lean against his arm as he utters the text he’s gone over dozens of times. Your eyes drift to the old sketches of ingredients and ancient painted text as he vocalizes each word on the pages. Azul’s left fingers play with the end strands of your hair. Just as he predicts, you fall away from the real world into the darkness of sleep. By the time Azul decides to stop studying for the day, he chooses to rather stay and make you comfortable than to take the guest room alone.

If I had to pick five people in no particular order, I would have to go with...

Kalim Al-Asim

It's no secret that this guy gets along with almost anybody, and someone who's his opposite is no different (*cough*Jamil*cough)

I feel like someone who is the workaholic and serious type would be a good fit for Kalim (I cannot guarantee that you'll agree at first), as you can keep him focused on his own duties (boi's scatterbrained as hell)

Kalim is one of the few genuinely kind people in all of Night Raven College, even if he can come off a little strong. If you are skeptical or cynical, I think Kalim would be the breath of fresh air you need if you give him a chance

He can also be a bit unaware of his surroundings and the atmosphere, so you might need to tell him to reign in his enthusiasm a bit

Likewise, Kalim would tell his uptight friend (or romantic partner) that it is okay to let loose and have a little bit of fun sometimes. If you don't exactly know how to do that he'll be more than happy to help

Malleus Draconia

Malleus grew up pretty sheltered for most of his life so I feel like a cheerful and extraverted type of person would be a great change of pace for him

Malleus has lived his life being feared by almost everyone who's even his heard name, so someone who would treat him as a normal person would be a tad overwhelming for him. Even more so if you know who he actually is and treats him like that regardless

I feel like the friendship (or romance) between you two would be like the duality of cinnamon roll: Malleus is the cinnamon roll who looks like he could kill you, meanwhile, you would look like a cinnamon roll (or be one) but can kill a mf. That or you could actually be a cinnamon roll

I headcanon that Malleus is autistic, and it is canon that he has a special interest in gargoyles, so I think he would get along with someone who would listen to him ramble about them

This goes both ways. If you have a special interest (or a hyperfixation) he will listen to you ramble about it for hours

Riddle Rosehearts

Riddle is the definition of gifted kid burnout syndrome, and I think someone more laid back or outgoing would be something he'd appreciate in one way or another

Riddle would appreciate someone who is easygoing and easy to interact with since he's not very good at socializing (being strictly bound by rules does that to a mf)

If you happen to be a rule breaker (within reasonable bounds of course) he will be a bit surprised the first time you do it. If it is something minor like wearing the wrong colour socks or something, he'll try to overlook it, but for more serious offences, he will tell you off

And if his rule lawyering gets too out of hand, you will have to call him out on it

Ace Trappola

This little shit has absolutely no filter and will say what is on his mind, so I think someone more diplomatic would be a good counterbalance for him

I also feel like Ace holds a sort of fascination with more reserved people (he can deny it all he wants and say that they're boring as hell, but I don't believe him), so I think he would be the type of person to get them out of their shell.

I think this is especially true when it comes to voicing your opinions (many of which are either objectively correct or good things can come from at least speaking them)

I also like to think that their opposite can see right through his shit and calls him out for it. Their opposite is honest and has a built-in bullshit detector, and he cannot get anything past them

He does of course come to appreciate them for everything you

Leona Kingscholar

This cynic of a housewarden will not like you at first. You are everything he isn't: cheerful, friendly, in tune with the needs of others, and dare he say it? a little too naive and gung ho?

He can say that he doesn't need you to help him with his mental health, but we all know that's untrue (just watch, he's gonna give in if you're patient with him and give him space)

Your bright personality is what draws so many people to them, so he becomes jealous

Over time he would often come and kidnap you to either practice spelldrive or to take naps with him. He can say that he did it out of boredom all he wants, but it's just not true

Characters: Kalim Al Asim, Jamil Viper, Idia Shroud, Ortho Shroud Non-prefect or prefect reader, platonic only for Othro, platonic or romantic for the others, bulleted list

Kalim Al Asim

Kalim is absolutely one of the sweetest men in the world and he cares about everyone a lot, especially you dear reader!

The problem is Kalim's love language is gift giving so he shows his care for you by lavishing you with gifts

He overheard you talking about something you need? oh, it's magically in your dorm. saw something at a market that made him think of you? oh, it's already bought along with the 10 other things he saw that day.

Reign him in on the gifts please, he doesn't know when to stop and you’re gonna run out of space quick asf.

Gift-giving isn't the only way Kalim shows he cares for you though, he also constantly likes to check up on you throughout the day/week

He loves to text you throughout the day with little affirmations and quick messages about how his day is going and encourages you to do the same!

Kalim also encourages talking face-to-face too, during those times he tries his best not to speak until you're done and tries not to give advice unless asked

Tries is the keyword here

He's very eager to help you and also isn't the best with his words so sometimes it can cause some tension between you two. It usually doesn't last long however and Kalim is getting better at watching his actions and words, especially after Jamil's over blot!!

When it comes to being protective over you, Kalim definitely is always defending you if he hears someone speaking down on you! He's always ready to speak about your character :)! You're a jewel to him and he needs everyone to understand that.

Jamil Viper

Jamil shows he cares in subtle ways: he’ll drop by with food and disappear or text you when he knows you’re up studying late to go to sleep.

Likes to leave you little notes around in odd places also, just so you know he’s thinking of you.

You’ll find them all (eventually).

He’s definitely a more private person, so don’t expect a lot of grandeur gestures but that doesn’t mean he isn’t doing special things for you!

He’s a busy guy but whenever he has time the focus is on you—whether that be a “date” or just simply hanging around.

Speaking of him being busy, he’s protective of your time together! He doesn’t like to be bothered by others when you two are alone.

Big listener whenever you need to rant, or just anytime you talk tbh. He’s always paying attention to you!

Also gives pretty solid advice when asked! He’s straight to the point and blunt. Not afraid to call you out if you’re in the wrong too 🥱

Jamil really isn’t a unsolicited advice giver (he hates that a lot) but if he notices you’re really struggling with something and hasn’t come to him, he might casually drop something vague in conversation to show he’s aware and encourage you.

I think his love languages are definitely quality time and acts of service <333

He also text you a lot!! He’s always on his phone/computer so…

Will get some of your favorite snacks/drinks/food delivered to your dorm randomly. It’s great.

If you’re a gamer too, great cause he’s making you play some of his faves and also buying them for you if you don’t already own’em

He also sends you stuff in game. Rare items, money, skins whatever…he’s like a gaming sugar daddy???

Idia will act like he doesn’t care about you but he cares a lot he just shows it in his own idia way.

He isn’t really super protective of you in irl situations because he rarely leaves his dungeon room but in any games/forums/etc he got ya.

Speaking of never really leaving his room, if you ask enough about going somewhere with him sometimes he’ll bite and go along.

Love language wise, I think Idia is another big gift giver and quality time (whether it’s a few seconds of your time or hours, he treasures the time!)

Ortho Shroud

Ortho is 100% one of the best people to have as a friend !!!

He’s constantly checking in on you, hanging out when you both have free time and going off on fun side quest lol

You both often find comfort in just talking and listening to each others respective struggles

Definitely quality time is one of his top love languages, he just loves spending time and being around ya

Doesnt mind if other things get in the way of like a planned hangout or something either, he’ll just shrug and yall reschedule

Made a post like this years ago, but I wanna make an updated version. We've had loads of updates since then, and I understand some of these guys a lot better. So...

How the TWST Boys Would Act Around Female!Yuu

(Quick side note, I'm keeping romance out of this for the most part. That is another can of worms completely, and should be its own post.)

Crowley: No different than the canon. He's using Yuu to accomplish his own goals, and none of that would change thanks to Yuu's gender.

Grim: No different than in the game.

Ace and Deuce: Similar to the game, but I imagine that they would be more protective of her. Deuce more so than Ace thanks to him wanting to be an "honour student".

I also imagine that Deuce would have a hard time talking to her at first thanks to his awkwardness around talking to girls he's not related to. He would warm up to her quickly, especially during the mine shit.

Trey: Not much different than the game.

Cater: Not different than the game either. However, I can see him also trying to capitalize on the fact that she's the only female student at the school and just straight up ask her out on a date when he first meets her. He did the same with Vil in the canon, so it only makes sense for him to pull that shit on Yuu.

Riddle: No different then the game, except he would be a bit more polite and be less harsh on her normally.

Leona: He would be a lowkey grumpy gentleman. Make no mistake. He wouldn't be a total pushover, who does exactly what she says, or worship the ground she walks on just because of her gender. He would still be himself. He would be less rough on her and be a little more willing to help out if she truly needs it. If dipshits in his dorm try to start something with her, he would shut it down in an instant. Even then, that would be less likely to happen because Sunset Savannah men drink their "Respect Women Juice". I also don't ever see him threatening to knock her teeth out and only do that if she REALLY tests his patience, but he would never go through with it.

Ruggie: Similar as Leona, but he would be even more of a gentleman, especially if she proves herself to be capable. (Hyena packs are lead by women.)

Jack: Similar to the game, except he's a lot more protective of her and tsundereish. Ace would totally tease him about that.

Azul: He would definitely put on a false mobster gentleman persona and flirt with her in order to get her to make a deal with him. As soon as she sees through it, he'll drop the act and act like how he does in canon. Though, I don't see him pulling this shit if he already has a partner in a fic.

Floyd and Jade: Similar to the canon. They would get more handsy and tease her more. During Octanivelle, Floyd would totally jokingly suggest her sleeping in Azul's room that whole time for Azul to flush and turn that shit down instantly.

Kalim: Similar to the canon. He would be more dependable and psychically there for her, being even more willing to hand her gifts or help her out. He would be a bit more handsy in a non-sexual way, giving her hugs and head pats. He also might make more out of pocket comments about her being a great potential bride for a noble's son for Jamil to scold him.

Jamil: He would feel pressured by his family and the Asims to treat her like a high-caste noble lady, for better and worse. He would keep a sharp and keen eye on her to make sure she doesn't get into trouble, being more willing to do anything to accomplish that task like using expensive salves to heal her or put her in a fancier room during Scarabia. He would do everything to make sure she doesn't do any hard labour or hurt herself. But if he befriends Yuu, he would cool it on this and act like his true self around her.

Vil: Similar to the canon, however he would push her to take care of her appearance more and make an effort to be less harsh with her.

Rook: Pretty much the same as in the canon. He would instantly know about her gender and that she's from another world without even trying.

Epel: Similar to the canon, but he would make a bigger effort to be polite and less curt. Like with Jamil, he would swoop in to complete hard psychically demanding tasks for her. However, unlike Jamil, in his case, he acts like that more thanks to his country background.

Idia & Ortho: Idia would be like Deuce, but a hundred times worse. He would be shy and awkward, because he doesn't know how to talk with girls in a real life sense. Ortho wouldn't care, and push him to socialize with her, anyways.

Malleus: He would be a tad slower to pick up shit like her being from another world thanks to being so sheltered. He would treat her similarly to canon, but be slightly more chivalrous and gentleman-like thanks to him being a prince and being taught to act like that around women.

If he's not in an arranged marriage, I also imagine he might feel pressured to marry her from the council, since he would be expected to find a "suitable bride" by the time he comes of age to carry on the family line. Whether or not she does that is up to the fic writer to decide.

Silver: Same as the canon.

Sebek: Similar to the canon, except he would try to act more like a gentleman around her.

Lilia: Same as the canon. Like with Rook, he would instantly know about Yuu's secrets.

Well, the obvious answer is the school uniform, while Emi’s at NRC at least. Otherwise, it kinda depends on her mood and what she’s up to. Some days, it’s perhaps a print t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. On other days, a corset-like top, a skirt or those wide legged pants with chains on them, platform boots or combat boots.

So there's definitely a bit of a range, especially once she's had the chance to build up her wardrobe in Twisted Wonderland. Still, she tends to favor red and black a fair bit.

I'm definitely thinking of putting together an inspo clothing board for her at some point. If only I had some suitable full-body pics of myself in high school for reference, but alas.

Well… Pretty much what I wore in high school, wanted to wear then, or would love to wear now (I swear my wardrobe has gotten squashed into easily work appropriate clothing, I need to bring some more edge in there). I did some googling and I think something like mall goth might be pretty close to what she’s got going on? Vil ;; what. what the hell is this. unless its throughly clean and has some interesting colors/design/it's pretty he will throw it away woops, doesn't understand the appeal but if youre sad he threw it away hell ask you for "the prettiest rock for him, the prettiest person you've seen"

Rook ;; now youre inexplicably finding rocks EVERYWHERE, your pillow is lumpy? rock! you wanted cereals for breakfast? filled with rocks! went to put on your socks? why is there a rock?! he may even throw them at you from afar!! (believe him he didn't actually think it through he just wanted to surprise you)

Epel ;; kinda gets you!! may not reciprocate the rock giving at first (he prefers personally carving you some apples as a gift) but will if you explain to him the sentimentality behind it!! will save any rock you give him and maybe even send one back to his meemaw if he deems it cool enough

Idia ;; Doesn't really?? get it at first?? but when he was (forced to be) outside he saw a cool rock on the sidewalk and went "oh hey they would like this one!... Oh damn." a light bulb went off of his head at that moment, he wont really give you any rock bc he simply doesn't go outside, but will put the rocks you give him between his idol merch and figurines

Ortho ;; the epitome of just there for the vibes, doesn't understand jackshit of why youre doing it but if youre happy he's happy!! will test the rocks to see what compound or kind they are and tell you funfacts about them

Malleus ;; OH LORDDDDD hes kneeling down and holding his chest the moment you open up your hand and present him with the rock, A GIFT??? FOR HIM?? FROM YOUUU???? hes a very shinnies boy so be prepared to find anything gold anywhere in your dorm/room, he actually gets you from the start and is so happy, like straight up giddy, cackling in his room as he makes a small altar for the rock (half joking)

Lillia ;; also very giggly and understands the act of gifting rocks as a show of friendship (or more) will also leave small trinkets on your way (some of them are hundreds of years old... be careful)

Silver ;; hes used to small animals also giving him offerings and trinkets, so he understands the sentimentality behind the little rock, will also give you some shinny stone he found while resting in the forest, look it has the shape of a chipmunk!!

TREY does not judge a book by it's cover,,, is he a little unsettled? sure. he tries his hardest to treat you normally. "are you aware your nose is bleeding?" is the first thing he says to you when he catches you in the hallway with blood flowing out of your nose,,, overall he treats you normally as possible and maybe even befriends you!!

CATER's first reaction to you is 'man why do they remind me of an anime character...' because i think cater would know about many different animes. he makes an effort to talk to you and even take a picture because of how unusual you look... maybe he WONT post it but now he can stare at your picture and think about why you look the way you do??

ACE is spooked by you, much like riddle, and he's KINDA mean too?? he'll talk about you to his first year friends and somethings he says are kinda mean but deuce always knocks some damn sense into him. but, congratulations, you can boss ace around and he would listen out of pure FEAR.

RUGGIE stays away, but might stick around if you have something to offer. if you were like him in your past and had to scavenge for food, y'all can share tips and experiences. anyways, ruggie is unsettled by you and he immediately thinks of rook when he sees you.

JACK, like deuce, doesn't say anything mean. he doesn't mess with you for any reason, he's more of a lone wolf anyways. he'll come to your rescue if you're getting bullied, though, don't expect to be his best friend afterwards. he also offers you a tissue for your nose.

AZUL would be scared if it weren't for the two absolute units we know as floyd and jade following him around. i'll be deadass, he probably assumes you're being bullied for your looks and he sympathizes with you.... not enough to hold himself back from a contract though 💀

FLOYD actually likes you. he thinks you're creepy cool. he definitely wants to fight you at first but later on i can definitely see you guys become friends!!

-He just widened his eyes for a second.

-You looked so alike, yet he felt more alive with you.

-Then he went back to sleep.

Deuce: gets really confused, almost trips, then gets embarrassed cuz he realizes that he just got scared by a slice of cheese

Trey: like ace, he'll laugh it off after he realizes he's been cheesed. may or may not cheese you back, depending on how he's feeling

Cater: shrieks a little, he was probably distracted by his phone when you hit him with the cheese. if he does it back to you, it'll definitely be recorded

Leona: is probably asleep when you cheese him, doesn't really bother him, he might just throw it off or give it to ruggie
