As a poc intersex person, the best way to make us feel more welcome in the queer or any kind of community for that matter is to stop focusing so much on us being poc or trans or intersex or any other difference and actually start treating us like whole multifaceted people. There's been countless times where I walked away from groups or media that put representation before anything else because they only cared about labels than the whole person. It's just as lazy as making a new flag to me.

if you are a person of color and are struggling to understand or express your own gender because you do not and/or cannot conform to white beauty & gender standards you're not alone and you do not have to warp yourself to suit someone else's narrative- every culture on this planet has their own relationship with biological sex & gender and you do not have to mold yourself to suit gender roles that literally just don't exist in your cultures, or don't make sense to you
you do not have to try to change your face, hair or body to match standards that don't apply to you. you are allowed to approach gender in your own way, in whatever ways make sense to you. it's your life, your gender, your culture, your expression. you don't have to screw yourself over like that. good luck in finding the real you, you'll find them

Revisited a story that was very important to me as a child, and learned about the author being very vocal about the harm gender roles & stereotypes cause. I thought "oh that's great!" but was afraid. What if she only applied that logic to cis ppl?
I did some searching, and found out that not only does she support trans ppl, but has also spoken multiple times about how important it is to be able to see protagonists outside of the perceived norm. A.K.A., she doesn't see my very existence as wrong.
I let out a deep sigh of relief. I could continue to enjoy this thing that had been so important to me growing up.
But this isn't the first time something like this has happened. Too often I discover a new artist, or even be unsure of one I've enjoyed the work of for a long time up to the present; and I have to desperately search to know if I can enjoy their work. Either I am extremely relieved, or absolutely crushed.
This shouldn't be necessary. I shouldn't be feeling this deep fear that something so important to me, was created by someone who despises my very existence. That I, as a disabled queer femme ex-mormon Pagan witch who was raised like a girl, will be shoved off the emotional cliff of "this person you looked up to hates you for the same reason all bigots do".
I was so terrified that something that meant so much to me as a kid could've shattered me emotionally. Simply because I didn't know if the person who made it hates people like me.
We shouldn't have to live like this.

Zanele Muholi
Zanele Muholi is a visual activist, humanitarian and art practitioner who focuses on the documentation and celebration of the lives of South Africa’s Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities.
Beginning in 2006, Muholi responded to the continuing discrimination and violence faced by the LGBTI community by photographing Black lesbian and transgender individuals, resulting in the ongoing portrait project, Faces and Phases. Their self-proclaimed mission is “to re-write a Black queer and trans visual history of South Africa for the world to know of our resistance and existence at the height of hate crimes in SA and beyond”.

May make black queer flags that are actually inclusive of the spectrum of colors in which we come
Instead of just the typical two shades of brown that exclude people who are lighter skinned (albinos, biracial, etc) because not every black person has brown skin. I understand that using two shades of brown is likely for simplicity's sake, but it just feels really isolating lol

Quick positivity post for trans people who didn’t get more conventionally attractive after they transitioned!
Trans people who look ‘worse’ or ‘the same’ are wonderful and look great actually.
Conventional beauty standards are exclusionary and flawed, and shouldn’t be the goal anyway- the point of transitioning isn’t to ‘glow up’ by becoming attractive, it’s to become more comfortable with yourself.
Trans people shouldn’t be expected to suddenly become conventionally attractive as part of their transition anyway (look as weird and non-cis as you want! it’s your body!), and photos of ’ugly’ pre-transition people who look ‘better’ after transitioning should not be used to justify to cis people why people should be allowed to transition.
Look the way you want (or the way you pass), not the way beauty standards want you to look! The endless quest to become conventionally attractive is a trap and you don’t have to fall for it when you transition.
