Dp x Dc Crossover Writing Idea
“Red Robin!”
When he backtracked to find the owner of the voice he was a bit surprised to find a young boy, maybe eight years old if he had to guess, dressed in a red sweatshirt that dwarfed him and a pair of gym shorts that had seen better days.
Not many Gothamites called out to the vigilantes, a silent agreement to stay out of their way and not to look too closely. This kid however stared up at him with bright blue eyes unafraid of getting the Red Robin’s attention.
A fan?
Before he even opens his mouth, the kid gives him a small, hopeful smile, eyes shining with something that reminds him of himself when he was that age and following Batman and Robin with his camera around his tiny neck.
“I brought you a gift,” the boy say with nervous excitement. He enthusiastically swings off the backpack he had on to dig through the contents, taking his eyes off the vigilante and showing his unwavering trust that nothing bad would happen to him while Red Robin was here.
The boy pulls out what appears to be a jar wrapped in newspaper, the worn page ripping in some spots to show the clear glass underneath. Small hands present it like it’s Red Robin’s birthday (which it wasn’t).
He takes it cautiously, the kid hasn’t been hostile but this was still weird, and pulls it closer with enough space so if it’s a bomb it doesn’t blow up in his face.
It’s got weight to it and the slight sloshing tells him it’s filled with liquid. He carefully unwraps the ‘gift’, keeping his eye on the boy who stands waiting anxiously.
Tim almost drops the jar as soon as he sees what’s inside. Only his reflexes from over the years held on and his expression turned neutral.
A pair of eyes sit at the bottom of the jar. The orbs were crudely extracted, tissue floating around them like a mane of hair around a head.
He turns the jar to see the irises and… he knew these eyes. The slimy green is filmed with death, but he recognized these eyes from the number of times the owner locked them onto him, the cruel possessiveness they possessed when they gazed at him. Never again apparently.
Tim doesn’t speak for a while, not knowing what to say, but also thoughts racing too fast to form any proper sentences.
“Do you like it?” The small, nervous voice interrupts those thoughts.
What an innocent question on an equally innocent looking face.
“How did you get Ra’s Al Ghul’s eyes?”
The teasing chatter over the comms immediately hushes into shocked silence.
“I took them from his body, so you knew he was dead. I burned the rest so you don’t have to worry about him coming back again. The Pit there is gone anyway,” the child explains easily, not fazed in the slightest from the words he speaks.
“Grandfather is dead?” He hears Damian whisper over the comm.
So many other questions were flying through Tim’s head. He looks the kid over again.
Black hair and blue eyes. In any other situation the kid might have been a possible Wayne adoptee. He’s not a clone from what he can see though. Despite the coloring he doesn’t really look like any of them. Pale skin like Tim, but has freckles. The same kind of nose as Damian, but wide, round eyes. Jaw kind of like Jason, but his body shape is too narrow. Bright, almost icy blue eyes like Dick, but eyebrow shape is flatter. Lip shape like Bruce, but from the kid’s anxious lip biting he could see the faintest trace of dimples.
“Who are you?” He asks instead of the other million and one questions.
The boy blinks almost like he wasn’t expecting the question. He’s cheeks color pink with blush as he grins widely.
“I’m Danny!” He introduces cheerfully like he didn’t just hand a vigilante a jar of eyes.
“Hi, Danny,” Tim greets almost dumbly. “Want to tell me why you gave me this?”
Danny scoffs his shoe against the pavement in what appears to be embarrassment.
“Well, I know when you ask someone for something, it’s nice to give a gift or something. Like I did something nice for you so maybe you’ll do something nice for me?”
He takes a moment to absorb that child-like reasoning.
“So you want me to do something for you and you thought I would like Ra’s Al Ghul’s eyes in exchange?”
Danny studies him and fidgets with the large sweatshirt sleeve.
“I just thought you would like proof. Like the whole ‘bring me the heart of my enemy’ kind of thing. Do you not like it? I couldn’t just take a picture ‘cuz I didn’t have a camera with me, I know you like photography. I can do something else for you if it’s not enough,” he offers worriedly.
Tim freezes.
“How do you know I like photography?” He demands.
Danny tilts his head curiously.
“Because Tim Drake likes photography,” he says like it’s obvious, “and you’re Tim Drake.”
Well. This is less than ideal.
“Red Robin, take him back to the Cave,” Batman instructs over the comms.
Yeah, he was getting there.
“Do you know the other’s’ identities?”
Danny nods and hums affirmatively. Tim waits.
“Oh! Yea. Batman is Bruce Wayne. Robin is Damian Wayne. Red Hood is Jason Todd. Nightwing is Richard Grey-“
“Okay. That’s enough.”
Tim glances around the empty alley they were standing in, checking to make sure no stray people heard. Luckily they were truly alone.
“Danny, do you want to come back with me?” He asks, but it’s not really a question. The kid was coming back regardless, it would just be better if he went willingly.
Unsurprisingly, the kid lights up like a little sun at the offer.
“Really?” He nearly shouts in excitement.
“Yeah, kid. I parked my bike a few blocks from here. You ever rode a motorcycle before?”
Danny shakes his head, nearly bounding on his toes.
“Not in this lifetime.” And wasn’t that odd wording? “Are we gonna grapple there?”
“Think you can hold on?”
“Yeah!”
He kneels down so the boy can climb onto his back and lock his arms around his neck and hook his feet together around his torso. Danny is worryingly light as he stands.
The kid is the picture of an excited and overeager child as they carefully fly over rooftops and then drive back to the Cave. Even when they park inside the safety of the Batcave, Danny’s eyes are filled with child-like awe and wonder, so curious and chattering with questions and wild imagination. It would be cute, endearing even, if the jar of eyes wasn’t sitting heavily in his pocket.
Alfred came down not too long after their arrival with a tray of healthy snacks and some waters. Danny happily munches on the apple slices as he wanders around where Tim can see him.
The rumble of the Batmobile can be heard almost an hour later after Tim has to tell Danny not to touch the weapons for the fourth time. The kid’s attention is drawn to the sleek black vehicle as it parks by Tim’s bike. He trots over with wide eyes as the doors open and Robin exits, then Batman.
Unfortunately, Dick is in Bludhaven and Jason is visiting Roy and Lian this week. Cass and Steph were gone as well and Duke was sleeping. It was just the three of them and this kid with Alfred as the only buffer.
Danny stares openly, curious, as the duo makes their way over to the computer where Tim has claimed his sit.
Tim turns the jar that he set on the table so the eyes are facing them and slowly leans back again, suddenly very tired. Damian flexes his hands into fists tightly while Batman is very still.
“Hi,” Danny chirps like nothing is wrong, oblivious to the tension in the air.
Batman takes a measured breath. Robin glares down at the child, but remains silent for now.
“Who killed Ra’s Al Ghul?”
Danny blinks blankly.
“Nobody.”
“You’re saying he just dropped dead?” Damian sneered in sarcasm.
“Death took him,” the child says simply as if that explained everything.
“How?” The word is demanded and emphasized.
“Like Death takes everyone. His expiration was overdue.”
Bruce frowns and Damian almost snarls.
“I demand you start making sense!”
Danny glares back in offense.
“I’m being very clear! Maybe you should ask better questions!”
The twelve year old growls at the smaller child and Batman has to place a firm hand on his shoulder to keep him from attacking.
“Danny?” Batman questions after a tense moment.
The boy’s arms are crossed in irritation, but he blinks out of his glare to stare up at the man.
“Yea?”
“How do you know our identities?”
“Oh, memories.”
Danny looked like everything he said made sense and it was driving Tim up a wall.
“Memories,” Bruce repeats.
“Uh-huh,” Danny nods confidently. “From the Lazarus Pit.”
A jolt goes through Tim as he recalls what the boy said earlier about the Pit.
“Didn’t you say the Pit was gone?” He asks before Bruce could continue his line of questioning.
Danny turns with a bright smile as if he was proud Tim remembered.
“Yea! Well, gone from this world anyway.” Tim was concerned. “I took the memories from it before sending it back where it belongs.”
“Okay. How did you know how to ‘take the memories’ and send it back? Back where?”
“I was born from it. Duh. It went back to the Realms or I guess you’d call it the Afterlife,” Danny actually rolls his eyes as if they should already know this.
“Born from it?” Damian asks with a wavering voice, hidden well from the child but not from them. “Nothing has ever been born from the Pits.”
“That you know of.”
And wasn’t that the kicker.
“So, to clarify, you come from the Pits. You know who we are because you took the memories from said Pits. Death took Ra’s because his time was up. And you took the eyes from his corpse to give to me because you thought I would like it as a gift so I would do something for you.”
Danny positively beams.
“This is why you’re my favorite!”
Damian grinds his teeth harshly.
“What is it you want Red Robin to do for you?” Batman asks in strangled hesitation.
“Oh!” Danny perks up like he remembered and hops over to Tim with pleading hands. “Can you please make me an identity? You’re really good at all that stuff and I was hoping you could find me a family. Someone to adopt me. A nice family, with a bed and family dinners and a dog. I always wanted a dog.”
Tim has the sudden urge to scream.

The batkids decide to hop on the trend.
Dick, walking as Steph records: We’re vigilantes. Of course we have to be over dramatic.
(Cut to Nightwing back flipping off of Wayne tower)
Tim: were vigilantes. Of course we have issues with caffeine.
(Cut to a video of Tim as Red Robin snoring while hanging from a grappling line. Batman can be seen in the background facepalming.)
———
Damian: No.
Tim: oh come on, Robin, we’re all doing it.
Damian: I refuse to partake in such idiotic videos.
Tim: (while Damian is still behind him) We’re vigilantes. Of course we get to punch people without getting in trouble.
Damian: actually—-
Tim: Robin, you’re supposed to play along—
Damian: I am not going to spread false information—
Steph, interrupting: well, I’m not one of Batman’s sons so he legally can’t yell at me.
Tim: wanna bet?
(Cut to Batman scolding all three of them about the improper use of force)
—-
Duke: we’re vigilantes. Of course we go to Batburger.
(Cut to Duke happily eating a Batburger meal, and playing with a Signal toy)
Duke: what? I’m allowed to have hobbies.
——
Steph: we’re vigilantes. Of course we can scare anyone we want to. Right, Black Bat?
Cass: (nod)
(The next series of videos is a compilation. The first is Superman being scared, followed by Green Lantern, Flash, Cyborg, Starfire, Dick, Tim, and a failed attempt to startle Wonder Woman. Cass isn’t even upset about not being able to scare the woman, she accepts the defeat with grace.)
——-
Dick, Tim, and Steph: we’re vigilantes.
Dick: I’ve gotten stranded on the moon. Don’t ask.
Tim: I got lost in hell.
Steph: I accidentally followed Green Lantern into space.
Tim: what? When?
Steph: turns out if you hug a Green Lantern really tightly, their life support on their ring will support you too
Dick: yknow, Batman shouldn’t find out about this-
(Cut to Batman’s lecture about the proper use of protective gear when going to space)
——
Dick: we’re vigilantes. Of course we’re best friends with all of the villains.
(Cut to Red Hood kicking down a door)
Jason: hey (bleep), you’re late to dinner
Dick: (currently tied to a chair and gagged)
Jason: hang on, I’ll help. (Shoots everyone and unties dick) Harley said she’s going to rampage if you’re not there in five minutes.
Dick: Blame these guys, not me! (Jumps through the nearest window, shattering it, and the sound of a grapple is heard)
——
Jason: I’m a crime lord
Dick: and I’m a vigilante
Jason: and you’re ruining my video, (bleep) off. (Shoves Dick out of the frame, ignoring Dick’s muttered cursing) now that we got the riffraff out, let me start over. (Brushes imaginary dirt from hands) I’m a crime lord. Of course Batman fights me every other day. I look forward to the day I can break his kneecaps.
Dick: (shocked) Hood!
Jason: what?
Dick: he’s your dad too!
Jason: yuck, don’t remind me.
——-
Duke: we’re vigilantes. Of course we know all of the gossip. (Very obviously looking around) like for example, Superman has the biggest crush on Bruce Wayne—
Clark, who was obviously eavesdropping: Nonononononono—- (trying to turn the camera off as he darts into the frame. There’s a flash of red, blue and yellow as Duke and Clark fight over the camera)
——
Tim: we’re vigilantes. Of course we visit other cities.
Wally, as Kid Flash: What the (bleep) are you doing in Central City?
Tim: I’m honestly not sure, it’s so bright that I think I’m blind.

“Jesus Christ! Who the fuck is this guy, Batman?” You exclaim, panting hard through your mask; whoever this Red Hood guy is… he really knows your team's weaknesses. It’s disconcerting.
Weirdly enough, he’s left you mostly alone.
Bruce shrugs from across the room. “That’s what we’re trying to figure out.”
It’s a blur of movement as Red Hood tries to attack mostly Bruce, only attacking Dick or you if you get in the way.
He’s said almost nothing since this fight started.
After a few minutes, Bruce sends a signal and jumps out of the half destroyed building; Dick follows and jumps out shortly after.
Leaving just you and Gothams latest criminal.
You’re about to turn to jump again, when suddenly your wrist is caught in Red Hood’s hand.
The familiarity of it makes you gasp and freeze.
He stares down at you, intimidating and silent through his red helmet.
Returning his stare, with as much fiery energy as you can muster, you try to pull your wrist away; His grip is like iron and you can’t.
“Don’t get in my way, Y/n.” He says, making your heart drop with the use of your civilian name. “I won’t choose between you and my goal.”
Your back is rigid and you’re breathing has stopped… if he knows your name, that means he probably knows everyone else’s too.
Fuck.
He finally lets go, brushing past your stiff body.
You’re too shocked to follow him.
….
“He knew my name, Bruce!” You say, feeling panicked. “Do you know what that means?”
Bruce nods curtly. “It means you aren’t suiting up until we’ve taken him down.” You try to protest but Bruce holds a hand up to cut you off. “It’s not up for discussion.”
You fidget with the small red pendant hanging around your neck, something you do whenever you’re feeling too many emotions.
It reminds you of Jason, the first boy you’ve ever been in love with and also the last; Jason was also Bruce’s second adopted son.
Jason Todd died five years ago.
But when he was alive… There was something special about him. He was always so eager to help Bruce by being robin.
That was back before you had your own suit; really, you’d only gotten a superhero identity so you could hunt down the joker and get revenge for Jason, but Bruce had managed to convince you not to do that in the last five years.
Probably for the best, even if seventeen is too young for someone to die; even if having a strong bond ripped away from you before it could become anything still hurt so badly.
You follow Bruce down into the batcave. “What do we know about Red Hood? Do we have any idea how he originated? It seems like he just popped out of nowhere.”
Bruce contemplates his answer as he unlocks the bat computer. “All we know is that he would have had to fly under our radar for months in order to take over the whole underground drug ring.”
You over hover his shoulder, trying to see what’s on the screen below him. “I don’t understand how we wouldn’t hear anything about him? With that many people who work for him, you’d think one of them would mention something.”
He hums in response. “They must be terrified of him.”
Alfred inserts himself into the conversation and ushers you back into the main part of the manor. “Alright, Miss. Y/n, You’re officially off duty indefinitely.” He pauses. “Like Master Bruce said, it is safer if you disconnect yourself from your hero identity.”
You frown. “If he knows my real name, he probably knows where I live.”
“He also told you, quote ‘don’t get in my way’ end quote.” Alfred tuts. “He clearly has no intention of hurting you as a civilian.”
You huff and head up to your bedroom, feeling like you really need to be out there but not really knowing why.
You suppose you don’t know what to do with your time anymore, now that you’ve been superhero-ing for so long.
When was the last time you read a book? Or watched a movie, just because you wanted to? It’s been too long…
Your bookshelves mostly carry decorative encyclopedias and other books that would bore you to sleep, so you leave your room and head just down the hallway.
The door creaks as you push open and clicks when you push it shut; then, you’re left in the silence of Jason Todd’s bedroom. Unchanged and untouched from the last moment he was in here.
It’s a little messy but nothing out of the ordinary for a teenage boy; the bed was never made, and his clothes were ever put in his drawers despite them being washed.
There’s books pulled out and just scattered in places, schoolbooks, comic books, novels… finally you spot what you wanted to find.
It’s a very old and very worn copy of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, something the two of you used to read together when you’d sneak onto the roof of the manor at nighttime.
You’d watch the stars and one of you would read the book out loud, until eventually you both would pass out and give Bruce a heart attack the next morning.
Maybe it was time to revisit that tradition, even if you were only reading to yourself.
Bruce and Alfred are in the Cave so you find your way into the roof and lay back. The shingles are definitely more uncomfortable without Jason to lay on, but it’s still a nice feeling nonetheless.
Just the act of laying under the stars with that book in your hands, makes you feel a kind of warmth that you haven’t felt in years.
You close your eyes and take a long, deep breath of night air; It’s fresh and ever so slightly damp, but in a way that makes you feel nice. The cold nips at your body in all the right ways.
Unfortunately, all bliss is momentary, and someone clearing their throat makes you jump a couple centimeters upwards.
You’re met with the bright red helmet of Red Hood.
“Pride and Prejudice, huh?” He says casually, though you're pretty sure he has a voice changer on, which makes his voice sound more irritated than it probably is.
You back up a few inches. “Bru-” Red Hood slaps a hand over your mouth before you can finish yelling for help.
You squirm in his grip, but he just maneuvers you so that your back is to his chest and you can barely move which makes your body lock up again— you can’t help the feeling of familiarity that settles in your stomach, or the way your body reacts to his.
Worst of all, he smells just like… no, it must just be where you are.
Jason Todd is dead.
And yet.
“Relax, Y/n, I’m not here to hurt you.” Something about him makes you listen and you relax your body. He kind of half-scoffs in response. “Are you done?”
You nod as best you can. He releases you.
“Who— why are you here?” You say, trying to ignore the fact that everything about this masked man reminds you of Jason.
Your chest rises and falls irregularly as he stares at you.
His head snaps away randomly. “Why should I tell you that?”
“Don’t answer my question with a question.”
“Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answer to.”
There’s a look of defiance shared between the two of you, or, at least, on your end. You can’t actually see his face so you’re really just assuming.
You spin away and blow out a labored breath. “God, I must be going insane…” Even the way he talks with you sounds like Jason.
“You’re so short, you look like a bunny who lost its carrot.” He says with a laugh.
“I do not!” You exclaim angrily, your mouth dropping open. “Okay, that’s it, I’m calling Bruce.” Your hand slips into your pocket to pull out your phone, and just as it's out of your pocket, Red Hood grabs your wrist; he traps it in one spot and yanks the phone from your hand.
He gently sets it on the ground. “Tell that fucker whatever you want, but wait until I’m gone.” The tone in his voice sends a chill down your spine. He seems so angry…
With that, he leaves, taken the same way that you took off the roof.
You stand there until you hear the roar of his motorbike, and then you finally retreat from the roof with the book clutched tightly to your chest.
…..
“I’m going with you, Bruce. You can’t stop me.” You say, already moving to try to grab your suit.
“No, you’re not.” He says sternly, blocking your path. “You need to stay out of this fight.”
You raise your eyebrows in challenge. “I’m going whether you let me wear that suit or not.” Bruce apparently doesn’t like this because he frowns even harder than before. You continue, “You can’t go alone. Dick is out of town and Tim is at school. Let me come.”
“You forget I did this by myself for quite a while before I adopted Dick.” He says firmly, leaving no room for argument.
Bruce doesn’t need your help, you know that; helping him isn’t your real goal.
Ever since the rooftop incident with Red Hood you’d gone into some sort of obsessive spiral over his similarities to Jason.
You feel like you need to talk to him again, touch him again… just to see why he’s so familiar; you feel insane.
The deepest parts of your brain scream at you that it’s not just similarities, that he really is Jason but… he can’t be; you watched them bury Jason’s body.
“There’s something else going on with you.” Bruce says, basically sizing you up.
You stiffen, which unfortunately gives away your next lie. “There’s nothing going on with me.” No excuse comes to mind so you don’t say anything more.
Bruce pauses for a beat.
“This has nothing to do with Red Hood.”
“Okay? Why would that matter?” You say dismissively, but also way too fast. “I don’t think keeping me locked up at home helps anyone.”
He sighs and finally caves. “Fine, you can come.”
…..
You aren’t sure how this situation devolved so quickly, but your communications got cut off a while ago and you haven’t been able to find Bruce or navigate very well through the rubble.
You’re bleeding heavily from a few different cuts and you’re pretty sure you sprained your ankle.
The faint cackle of the Joker makes you dive under a fallen piece of concrete, because if he comes this way he’ll surely kill you.
But the laugh recedes so you crawl out and sit against it instead.
You’re just about to start sobbing from the pain when you hear footsteps again; you go silent and try to move but you don't allow that.
You see a flash of red, and then Red Hood turns a corner into your line of sight.
“Christ’s sake, Y/n.” He mumbles. “What happened?” He approaches and drops down so he’s sitting on his feet, he stares for a moment, and you assume he’s assessing your injuries.
“You can’t call me that— here.” You hiss when he presses a finger against your ankle.
He stands up and takes both your hands, completely ignoring what you said. “Up. But don’t stand on your bad ankle.”
You grip his hands and stand up, holding your bad ankle in the air; Red Hood scoops you up bridal style not a moment later.
You squeal. “What are you doing?”
He stops walking and turns the face of his helmet directly toward you. “I’m taking you back to my base so I can help you get fixed up.” He interrupts you before you can speak, answering the question you were going to ask. “Batman isn’t here anymore, he went to follow after the Joker.”
It’s a rough walk to his bike, and it lasts for about ten minutes; ten awkward minutes of you being carried by Red Hood.
Red Hood who’s supposed to be a criminal and your enemy. Red Hood who brings you more comfort than he should just because of who he reminds you of.
He settles you onto the bike, pulling out an extra helmet before he speeds off.
…..
“Jesus, you sprained your ankle really badly.” He curses, performing whatever medical procedures as you hiss and whine at the pain.
He’s already stitched and/or dressed any of the open wounds you had and he saved the worst for last.
“Okay,” he says absent-mindedly. “I can’t do this properly with this thing.”
He reaches for his helmet but you stop him. “You’re taking your helmet off?”
He hesitates, then nods slowly. “I have to. If you don’t want to see, then shut your eyes until I’m done.”
You nod and squeeze your eyes shut.
He sighs softly and gets back to working on your ankle.
…..
“I swear to god, Bruce, it’s him. Red Hood is Jason.” You say, purposfully making your voice flat and void of emotion. “He has to be.”
Bruce just stares.
And stares.
Sympathetically, softly. But he stares.
“Jason has been dead for a long time, Y/n, and you know that.”
“No— I know, but he can’t be— that has to be him.” You back up into one of the chairs in the batcave, trying to calm your racing heart; you still try to keep a calm outward facade.
“What makes you think he’s Jason?” Bruce asks.
You weakly gesture at nothing with your hand. “Just look at him. He’s— everything about him is the same.”
Tim snorts from the computer. “The running drug rings and murders?”
“Not appropriate, Tim.” Dick says flatly and Tim’s face falls quickly.
You don’t blame him, you probably would have made a joke like that too.
Shaking your head, you stare at the floor past Bruce. “They sound the same, they talk the same way, they look similar— hell, they even smell the same.”
Bruce’s brows furrow. “How do you know what he smells like?”
“Uh…” you stall. “You know, close combat.”
Apparently, he drops it even though he clearly doesn’t believe you, because he asks another question. “We’ve never seen Red Hood unmasked, how do you know they look similar?”
You shrug. “They just do. There’s just something about him. I haven’t been able to shake the feeling for a while.”
It’s silent again for several long moments.
Then Bruce shakes his head absentmindedly.
“Jason is dead, Y/n. No matter how much we miss him, he can’t come back.”
But he’s wrong, he has to be.
Because no one is that similar to someone. You’re sure of it.
……
Your cheeks are wet and your eyes are starting to become raw from you rubbing at them.
Sobbing pathetically on the rooftop of the manor because you had to be reminded about a death that happened a long time ago is not the highlight of your day.
It’s stupid, going from sure of yourself, to telling yourself you’re so stupid for ever thinking it could be true in the first place.
There’s footsteps beside you, but you don’t look up. You don’t care enough to see who it is.
You fidget with the necklace around your neck as you sniffle into your knees.
Something clicks and then hisses as if air pressure is being released before you hear a tiny thud, and then someone pulls you into them.
You know who it is now.
“What’s wrong?” He asks quietly. You know you could look up and confirm your suspicions at any moment but you just can’t bring yourself to do it.
It’s not true, after all, because it can’t be. It’s not possible.
You shrug against him. “I’m reopening old wounds for no reason.” You pause. “Why do you trust me?”
He’s silent, contemplative for a while. “You’re you.”
You laugh dryly. “That doesn’t explain anything.”
“You haven’t even bothered to look have you?” His hand strokes lines in your hair. “You could. I don’t think I’d mind.”
“I don’t want to know.” You say, wrapping your arms around his waist. “I’m not ready for that.”
He nods, you can feel the movement through his body, even though it’s subtle.
You sit, wrapped up in his arms for a long while before he clears his throat softly and asks, “what old wounds have you been reopening?”
Your eyes well again, but you choke back the tears. “An old… friend, I guess. He died.” You start to pull back but you don’t look at his face.
Instead, you bury your face in your hands again. He lets you pull back. “I’m sorry for your loss.”
You shrug. “It was a long time ago, he just meant a lot to me— and it’s really hard because you remind me so much of him.”
He makes a sort of strangled sound and then clears his throat again but more rough this time. “Why do you say that?”
His voice sounds even more similar without the helmet and voice changer. This man is going to be the death of you. Maybe literally. “I don’t… I don’t know. It’s just everything.” You shake your head and laugh sardonically. “It’s driving me insane.”
“How did he die?” His voice is darker than before, and there’s a sort of undertone you can’t place.
“Brutally.” You stop, take a deep breath, and offer only a bit more context. “The Joker.”
He hums. “The Joker‘s alive and ruling this dumb city.” He pauses. “How do you think your friend would feel about that?”
“Probably about the same as I do. Sick.” You run a hand through your hair, purposefully trying to avoid seeing his face. “That’s why I became a hero, you know. I wanted to kill the joker because he killed Ja- um, my friend.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“People stopped me before I did something I couldn’t come back from.” You say, wrapping your arms around your legs. “I hope the joker suffers a terrible death, but I don’t think it should be by my hands. He wins if I spend the rest of my existence regretting it.”
Red Hood picks up his helmet and clicks it back on. “Right.” He stands and stares down at you. “I have to leave now.”
You shudder at his sudden coldness, and stand abruptly. “Okay, I— um, goodbye…?” You want to smack yourself at how unsure you sound. “Did I say something wrong?”
He shakes his head. “I just don’t know why you would ever regret ridding the world of someone like The Joker, that’s all.”
Stiffly, you nod and wipe your hands on your pants.
“Sorry about your friend.” He finishes, before leaving you alone on the roof again. “Too bad I didn’t know him.”
Basically, crushing any hopes you might’ve had that he was Jason.
……
This is an atrociously stupid idea, you know; driving directly into the den of Gotham's biggest drug lord is the smartest thing to do.
But Gotham's biggest drug lord is Red Hood, and you’re fairly sure he won’t hurt you. Mostly.
His lackeys though, don’t seem so forgiving.
“Who the hell are you?” The man who barks the question at you, is raggedy looking and has the worst, most distasteful tattoos you’ve seen in your life.
“I’m here to see Red Hood.” You amend quickly, “I’m a friend of his.”
“Yeah, right.” The other guard says, a bulky looking woman who is also insanely beautiful… unsettlingly so. “A fragile little thing like you, friends with our boss… please.”
You scoff. “Trust me, I’m not fragile.” Stopping, you contemplate whether it’s a good idea to start something, considering your ankle is still healing. “Just call him.”
She rolls her eyes. “Fine, whatever.”
An old phone hangs on the wall and she picks up the receiver and quickly dials a number. “Hey, I have a woman here who says she’s the bosses friend— her name? I have no clue— Oi, what’s your name?” The woman barks at you.
“Y/n.”
“Her name’s Y/n.” She’s silent for a minute while we all wait, then she hangs up the phone aggressively and yanks your arm into her grip. “Lucky. Let’s go.”
The corridors are a bit confusing to navigate, but you’re mostly just following the woman, who seems very familiar with them.
After ten minutes you reach a door, it matches almost every other door, but it has ‘boss’ written crudely on it in spray paint.
“You’re on your own from here.” She says gruffly before stomping away.
You take a moment to collect yourself before you knock, and the door swings open before you can even finish knocking.
“Why are you here?” Red Hood sounds breathless behind his mask, as if something winded him. “How did you remember how to get here?”
“I’m… actually not sure.” You chuckle quietly to yourself as Red Hood pulls you inside.
He sits down at a desk after pulling a chair out for you to sit in. “Again, why are you here?”
Your heart seizes for a moment as if the reason why you’re here hit you all over again. “I want you to show me who you are.”
“Are you sure?” Red Hood questions slowly, his body locking up. “You’re not going to like it.”
You nod curtly. “Yes, I need to know.”
He takes a deep breath and stands up, coming right up close to you. Far enough that you could see his face clearly but close enough to have your knees buckling.
He reaches up and presses a button you can’t see. The helmet hisses and opens, he pulls it off.
And your jaw drops.
Standing there, in grown up glory, black hair, green eyes that used to kill you, is Jason Fucking Todd.
“You’re— You’re not— dead.” You stammer, almost reaching out to touch him before you yank your hand back.
You’re so irrationally angry and also relieved and devastated all at the same time.
Jason sets the helmet down. You can’t decide whether to hug him and never let go or slap him for waiting so long to tell you. “That’s a… complicated story.” He pauses. “I promise I’ll tell you that story but I just— can’t get into that right now.”
You nod slowly. “Okay… that means I can get fucking pissed now.”
You’ve clearly confused him when you wrap your hands around his waist and squeeze tightly while also cursing him out. “I can’t believe you waited this long to show me.”
You can see the smart-ass comment on the tip of his tongue but he bites it back. “I knew you’d find out eventually.” His eyes caress your body and there’s a look of longing lingering in his eyes; he seems to be contemplating something. “Fuck it, I’ve been waiting too long to do this.”
You barely have time to react as Jason lowers his face down to yours and kisses you; As soon as you realize what he’s doing, you kiss back.
His hands go to rest on your hips, as you slowly get pushed back into his desk behind you. When you hit the ledge of if, Jason lifts you onto its surface, and pulls back.
“I’ve wanted to do that since we were kids.” He says quietly.
You gently touch your lips, almost in disbelief. “I’ve been wanting you to do that since we were kids.”

How would Jason react, or even know about Bruce nearly killing the joker?
He doesn’t hear it from Damian, Dick nor Barbara. It’s only when a few years have passed and relations between Bruce and him slowly start cooling that he starts being able to return to the Manor more often without feeling pangs of guilt, longing, nostalgia and overall the Lazarus Pit screaming to be let out.
However, he isn’t dumb. Whenever he complains to Tim about how Tim’s been treated better and loved more than he was, he’s quick to notice how Tim’s jaw tenses, with fingers spastic as if they wanted to curl into fists. Nor does he miss what Tim whispers under his breath twenty minutes later.
If only you knew..
Bruce keeps trying to make amends, tries engaging with him face to face before a few bullets got the message across and he retreated. But Jason could still feel him waiting, hovering, for the signal to light up and let him know he was needed.
He could go to hell though.. Every single time he looked at Bruce he felt safe, followed by fierce anger burning through his veins. He hated that he felt at ease when Bruce entered. Hated that he almost fell back into their old banter. Hated that he missed him. Hated that he still trusted him.
Hated that he still loved him.
One night, after giving Bruce the cold shoulder the entire time and watching in satisfaction as Bruce’s shoulder slumped in defeat, he felt the sudden need to comfort him. He’s the batman, he chided himself. If he could get over your death, he can get over this.
Standing out on the balcony, he never spoke to the presence already there.
“Master Jason..”
“Hey Alfred, it’s pretty cold out you sure you’d be fine?”
“I’ve faced worse winters.”
Jason sighed. That old man always had an air of expectancy around him, just like when he was robin, like a mother waiting for their child to tell them what they did wrong.
“What do you want?”
“I want to know what the bloody hell you think you’re doing?”
That caught Jason’s attention. Hatred and stoic ness quickly melted and all he could do was stare at him in shock.
“Why are you tormenting him?”
“Are you fucking kidding me??-“ “Language master Jason.”
“Alfred. You were there.”
“There was nothing master Bruce could do to save you-”
“I DONT CARE ABOUT THAT ALFRED! He-“
Shoulders slumped, he looked down.
“He replaced me.” Jason whispered. “He didn’t even wait till my body was cold he just fucking went ahead and replaced me. Even after knowing I died, he still put another child in that suit, MY suit! And then, HE DIDNT EVEN AVENGE ME!! He just took Joker back to Arkham, which is basically just like a vacation for him, and LEFT. After all these-”
A shivering cold current of electricity ran through his body and he could feel the Lazarus Pit rising, making his body grow colder by the second.
“After all this time.. he never did anything.” Jason muttered. “So yeah, not only was knowing I was dead for four years a slap to the face.. but to come back home to find another kid in my room and business as usual? As if I never existed? That just made me realise I didn’t matter.”
CLINK
The tea cup in Alfred’s hands was shaking, and a wave of concern overtook Jason. He was about to reach a hand out to steady it when Alfred put the cup down, sighed and looked at the moon.
“Master Bruce never gave Robin to Tim. I did.”
“.. Come again?”
“I gave it to him myself. After you died.. he was a shell of himself. He started pushing himself more, brutalising criminals to the point of hospitalisation. After you died.. a big part of him did too. He refused to be around people, friends, to be happy, to eat. He was punishing himself for your death by refusing to live. And I never forgot you either my boy.. Every night for months I stood by the windows, staying awake and looking outside..hoping to catch a glimpse of you. For the first time in my life I prayed for you to be beaten and bruised, but alive. Locked myself in your room, in your memories, as if standing over your bed was guarding you even in death..Master Bruce missed you so much he played tapes of your missions, just to hear your laugh.”
The older man shook his head and refused to look at him.
“He rejected Tim, but I couldn’t watch him destroy himself. I’d already lost one son..” Alfred paused, looking at Jason with such fondness and pain. “ I wasn’t going to lose another.”
A long pause lingered in the air, and Jason could hear his heart racing as it processed what he’d heard.
“As for Joker,” Jason looked up, and saw the most terrifying scowl he’d ever seen before, with eyes filled with hatred and a craving for retribution.
“Jason Bruce almost killed him too. Like you said, I was there. I was always there. He had chas- hunted Joker down, torturing him slowly and violently until the air was thick with his screams. How every bone was shattered, with so much blood you couldn’t even tell the tiles underneath were white.”
Alfred closed his eyes, and Jason couldn’t help feel that though he was remembering the scene, he was also reveling in it. “His body shattered, smile gone replaced with pain and the howls of misery that he emitted that night.. alas-”
“He didn’t kill him.”
Alfred’s eyes bore into his, and reflected the darkness of the shimmering sky.
“You’re not hearing me. He damn well nearly did. There are things worse than death in this world and Bruce made sure to make Joker feel every single.one. But Superman.. heard him. He heard the roars of fury and grief, and stopped him. All while Bruce stood over the broken body of what once was human. All while muttering your name over and over again, like it was a prayer that kept him grounded. With every hit he took, with every ounce of pain he delivered, he did it with your name on his lips.”
They both just stood there.. shadows in fading moonlight as the noises of life started waking the world with their song.
“Unfortunately, his voice was recorded on one of those surveillance cameras. Tim wiped it, but we kept one copy.. and though the footage is corrupted, the sound is crystal clear.”
Alfred hesitated, before gently cupping Jason’s hands and placing a cold weight on them.
“I hope you never hear it..my boy. I’d rather you burnt it. But if you want to hear the raw truth.. I wanted you to have proof.”
Sunlight burst through the horizon, and with it came the dawn of a new time.
Jason heard the tape as soon as he left.
And burnt it right after.
Alfred was right.
All he had heard were the guttural cries of a broken man..
A father, grieving for his son.

*Whoops. Forgot to title and link previous chapters. Fight me, I just woke up.
A King in Arkham
Chapter 3
Chapter 1 Chapter 2
"Tim. Tim you have to get me copies of this footage." Tim is not surprised by the request. In fact, the 'Sure' is already on his tongue when he pauses, a thought creeping into his head, seeded by the notification Tim really hopes Jason isn't paying attention to in the bottom corner of the computer.
"One condition."
"Fuck you, I knew you'd want something. What? You want my cookies? Coffee? For Red Hood to go on camera singing praises for Red Robin? I'll fuckin do it. Just send me the god damn clips."
"Nope, nope, and tempting, but no."
"Name your price, Replacement. I'll pay it."
"Swear you aren't going to go rush in and extract the kid until we're done investigating him."
"What!? Fuck that! I told you was pulling him out next chance I get!" Tim lets himself groan in annoyance.
"Look, anyone that could do that-" Tim gestures to the part of the screen where they'd pulled up The Joker's medical reports following the incidents, showing pictures and descriptions of just how thoroughly Daniel had beat his ass 3 weeks in a row, "without getting so much as a scratch or fucking bruise in return, has got something going on. There may well be a reason they sent him to Arkham!"
Jason's eyes narrow at Tim as he all but growls, "No reason is good enough to put-"
"A fifteen year old in Arkham. I fucking know that, Hood. But we still need to know exactly who we're dealing with when we get him out. What his deal is. If his dangerous. What the hell was so wrong with him that someone thought it was a good idea to stick him in there to begin with."
"He could get hurt while we're sitting on our asses trying to satisfy fuckin Bat paranoia!"
"He took down the Joker! Clearly he can take care of himself."
"Then who has been hurting him!?"
"Maybe him fucking self!" Tim knew he was pushing it. The green growing stronger in Jason's eyes was proof. But he needed to buy them some time before Jason made thing exponentially harder by storming the castle. Still, now he needed to calm Jason down before he went into a full rage. So Tim held up his hands placatingly.
"A few days, Jay. Just give us a few more days. I'm already almost through the Arkham reports, and there are only a handful from Chicago and Oracle is probably going to announce any minute now that she got through the communications blackout around his home town. We just need a bit more time to sort out intel so that we actually know how to help him once we get him out."
Finally, after a tense 34 seconds, green fades back into blue and Jason let's out a heavy sigh.
"Fine. But I get to tell the Bat about Daniel's discipline slips. Wanna see his fuckin face when I do."
"Deal." Tim hurriedly puts a comm in as Jason watches with narrowed eyes.
Batman.
Red Robin. Ready to fill me in?
Not yet, you're about to be busy. I isolated a pattern earlier. Exactly 15 minutes before the locks malfunction, there's been a strange power surge. Always written off. But the surge doesn't seem to be coming from the grid. And like I said, exactly 15 minutes later is when the locks malfunction.
Jason huffs as he catches on. Apparently he hadn't thought to question why Tim was so desperate to buy time before.
Robin responds, since he's on stakeout with Bruce. Mostly because Bruce won't let him watch the asylum alone. Much as the kid hates it, the rest of the family agrees. It's only a matter of time before someone in max security manages to take advantage of theses malfunctions. So far Croc is the only one who had, though thankfully he's not one to start shit on his own. But with Joker, Scarecrow, and TwoFace all inside; any one of them, or god forbid all three, could make for a real bad situation.
Tt. So you can tell before a malfunction happens.
Think so. Last power surge was 8 minutes ago.
And you are only telling us now, why Drake?
Codenames.
Cause he spent those 8 convincing me not to go get our kid out yet.
6 minutes. See if you can stop things before they start.
I'm not far out. Want me to join you?
Tt. I doubt we'll need your assistance, Signal. We shall be done before you get here.
No wait. Signal, head in. See if you can get a read on 26B.
You think he might be meta?
Hood?
Jason glares at Tim betrayed.
"I wanted to see his fuckin face."
Tim just waves him off.
"They need to know. You tell them or I do."
Boys
Jason scowls, but relents.
He put the Joker in the infirmary on his 1st, 7th, and 15th days there. All 3 times took no damage himself. Feral child had to be pulled off and still didn't stop struggling till the clown was out of sight.
All 3 assaults followed by panic attacks, though whether about the Joker himself or what Daniel had done to him, we don't know yet.
The comms were silent for a moment.
A 15 year old...
Did what you've never had the balls to old man.
...I've fought the Joker.
Daniel hits first.
Hnn
I will admit, it is impressive that he can take the Joker down alone. Perhaps he will make for a worthy brother after all.
4 minutes.
We're moving in. Thank you Red Robin, Hood.
The fuck are you thanking me for?
For helping. And giving us time to work this out.
ETA 7 minutes out. Be with you shortly.
.
The advanced warning proved invaluable for Batman and Robin. After alerting the chief of security of their supposed pattern, he had guards already in motion when the doors swung open. Batman took a perch to watch for max security escapees while Robin assisted the guards in keeping inmates corralled. Many didn't even bother to leave their designated areas, having already seen the Bats in the building.
No sign of any max security inmates. Normally, Batman would find this concerning. And while he did file it away to ponder later why no one from max security ever seemed to make it out of that wing, for today he counted the blessing that he would not have to try to keep Robin safe while dealing with someone like the Joker.
Batman tracked motion through the crowds, watching as a black mop of hair moved, seemingly otherwise unnoticed, through the sea of people. He thought to move in to direct the person back towards where people were being herded to, but the small figure merely walked towards the B wing and entered one of the far cells. That gave Bruce a sneaking suspicion of which patient that was. He moved to get a closer look as Signal swooped in.
"Where is he?"
"I believe he just went into his cell. This way." Batman led Signal to the cell he'd seen that tiny person enter. It was indeed 26B and there was indeed a small, too small, frail looking boy lying on the bed there. A red blotch had appeared under his left eye even though Bruce was certain there had been no injury there as the boy had crossed the hall.
Signal froze beside him, breath stuttering. The boy briefly glanced at them through the corner of his eye, mouth twitching into a brief frown. Then his eyes turned back to the ceiling and his face smoothed out. Bruce couldn't help but reach out.
"Hello." The boy said nothing. Signal opened and closed his mouth, seeming to try to say something, but unable to get words out. Batman wondered what he must be seeing. "You seem hurt. Do you need help?" Eyes flickered back to him and away just as quickly.
"Nothing you can help with Mr. Batman." And oh, how Bruce hated the kid's voice. So quiet and so so hollow. Bruce's mind flashed to his children, imagining any them speaking with such emptiness. His heart clenched, wondering what could have happened to this boy to have snuffed the life out of him so young.
Duke found his voice again, just as the doors buzzed and swung shut again.
"What are you?" Bruce frowned, looking at his latest. Who was looking, as Bruce tracked his gaze, not at Daniel but at the space just above him. Daniel himself seemed to take interest all of a sudden, breaking away his upward gaze to roll his head and look at them. Confusion plain on his face, the first hint of life shining dimly in his eyes.
"Signal? Signal, what do you see?" Batman asked. Robin materialized beside them. The daytime hero stepped forward, then back, light sparking and fizzling around his fingertips.
"There's something in there with him."
Daniel looked back up, where Signal still had his gazed trained on something Batman couldn't see. Even Robin seemed confused, though he no doubt trusted Signal's meta sight.
"Don't worry," Daniel murmured, "S'just a ghost. She can't hurt you."
This 'ghost' seemed unhappy either with the teen's words or this turn of events. Daniel's head snapped back to the side again, causing Batman and Signal to wince while Robin watched stoically. 4 red scratches appeared on Daniel's right cheek, as though he had been backhanded by someone with clawlike nails. A light chill brushed through him and Signal tensed, then relaxed, his gaze finally turning from the emptiness above Daniel to the boy himself. Batman took that as a sign that the... entity, was gone.
Daniel did not react to the obvious abuse from an invisible assailant. He mechanically turned his head back, once more dead and glazed eyes returning to the cracks in the ceiling of his cell. "You should go now. The guards will come around soon to make sure I'm still here."
Bruce wanted so badly to say 'Don't worry, we'll get you out of here.' But Batman was more restrained than that. He would get the child out. But he would have a plan first. For now, Bruce placed a hand each on the shoulders of Duke and Damien, guiding them away. Only when they were back outside did Bruce let them go. Only when they were perched on a rooftop half a block away did Batman pause.
"Robin, report."
"No escaped inmates and no sign of any from maximum security."
"Good. Signal, any information on what you saw in there." Duke rubbed at his eyes.
"A ghost, I guess? I don't know. It was weird. She didn't really have an aura. It was more like, an absence of aura. Like she was a black hole, drawing all the light in."
Even behind the domino, Bruce could tell Damien rolled his eyes.
"And what of the patient, Thomas? Was he not the one you were sent to look at?" Batman bit back the reprimand for codenames, more interested in Signal's response. Signal seemed to think for a moment, then shook his head.
"He definitely had a pretty distinct aura. It... felt powerful. But it looked weak. Dim. When the ghost... struck him, it flared up a bit, but died back down almost instantly. I... I get the feeling he was holding it back. Almost like he was afraid of it. Of himself."
"Hnn. Good job Signal. Robin. You two are welcome to head back to the cave. I'll take the rest of this Arkham shift."
At that moment, the comms crackled to life.
Actually B, you may want to come in, also. Arkham should be fine. And I found why they sent the kid there.

The Favorite Child
(This is not an OG concept, it's very much inspired 👍)
Dick knew that he wasn't the favorite child. Maybe he had been once, a long time ago, but he saw the way Bruce had lightened the moment he met Jason. The kid might've stolen his tires, thrown a tire iron at him, and called him a 'Big boob' the first time they met, but Bruce had just simply laughed and brushed it off. Plus at the end of it, he still had the kindness to send Jason to a respectable, expensive school to get him off the streets, and when it was revealed that the school was teaching these kids to be criminals Bruce had immediately gone to get Jason away from all of the corruption. Even as Jason grew and it became apparent that he was troubled, reckless, and sometimes even violent because of his past, Bruce had still tried his best to be patient and understanding to the boy. Dick had seen first hand the way that Jason's death had affected Bruce, the overwhelming and unending feelings of grief at losing another person who was close to him, and the guilt at not saving him, not being there to protect the one person he wanted to protect the most. He had watched Bruce retreat into himself, and even Alfred had defeatedly said that Bruce was acting just as he did when he lost his parents, all of those years of progress growing and healing from his traumas thrown to the wind because of a crazed man and a crowbar. Yes, Dick knew the truth. Jason was definitely the favorite child.
Jason knew he wasn't the favorite child. When he was Robin he had known it to be Dick, and after his resurrection he had thought it was his Replacement, though when the new little shit had shown up it became blatantly obvious to him that the favorite child was Damian. Of course it was, he was Bruce's biological son after all, why wouldn't he be the favorite? The kid might be an ankle-biter who swings around a sword, a trained assassin with blood splattered across his hands, but Bruce just pats his head, gives him a hug, and lets him keep filling the cave with various animals like Bat-Cow. Despite this kid clearly having the ability to kill without remorse, just like Jason himself nowadays, Bruce still wants to baby and coddle him as if he isn't the least deserving of being coddled. This kid is a trained assassin, he had been long before Bruce ever knew he existed, while the other Bat-Kids were just that when they met him. Kids. Regular, run of the mill kids. (Well, 'Regular' might not cut it what with Dick being a circus acrobat and Tim having some strange stalking tendencies. If anything Jason himself was the most normal back then, but you get the point..) And yet the tiny killer, who acts cold and unfeeling with his flashy words and hard stare, gets coddled far more then the others (at least in Jason's eyes) who were once small, sensitive, defenseless children who looked up to Batman as their saviour. Their everything. Yes, Jason is painfully aware of who the favorite is. It's Damian, no doubt about it.
Tim knew he wasn't the favorite child. He was the observant one after all, even before he started his training he had watched Bruce, followed his patrol routes each night to take photos of him, hidden in the shadows as he fought, constantly studied the hero he idolized.. From the beginning he saw the chemistry between Batman and his first sidekick, the way young Dick had stuck so close to Bruce's side through all of the battles, the graceful and fluid way in which they worked together as if they had been doing it for years, and on some nights when he was feeling bold he even got close enough to hear their banter and jokes. Perched behind the dumpsters in an alleyway, camera in hand, he listened each night as the two casually talked about eating dinner when they got home, about watching movies together in the in-house theater, about spending the holidays by each others side. They were so close that the young detective could practically see the bond holding them together, and when he moved into Wayne Manor it became even more obvious. The way that Dick had helped Bruce through Jason's death. The way that Dick would always come to Bruce's rescue, as quickly as possible, no matter what. The way that Dick is still so close to Bruce even today. Yes, of course Tim knows who the favorite is. It's obviously Dick.
Damian knew he wasn't the favorite child. Overall he didn't really care, he had no interest in being the object of his father's affection, but the fact that his father had chosen his rival as his pride and joy annoyed him to no end. If it had been Richard he might've understood, or even Todd would've been better, but his father so blatantly showed that Drake was the one he adored the most and the young assassin found it infuriating. Everyone was constantly praising Drake, saying that he was 'Sooooo smart', 'Soooooo bright', 'Sooooo cunning'. Damian tallied each time he heard Bruce compliment the nuisance, and for every kind word that was spoken, he gave his katana another strike against the sharpening stone. It wasn't just Bruce, all sorts of people kept complimenting Drake for his many 'achievements', and it made a deep seated rage boil within him every single time. He was always determined to one up Drake, he had to. He has to prove that he's superior, he's the better Robin, he's the smart one, he's the most skilled. But.. He really doesn't care about being his father's favorite. Not.. Not at all.. Yes, Damian knows which of the children his father cares for the most. It's clearly Drake.

Steph believes you when you tell her you tripped and hurt your wrist.
After all, it’s not exactly a lie. That is what happened. It just… happened to occur while you were being advanced upon by, you know, the Batman.
You don’t tell her that last part. It’ll just worry her, you think, and she was worried enough about you that following day, when you told her about how your shift was cut short and how you hurt yourself. She fretted about you coming back to your shitty apartment in Coventry on your own but you made up a lie about catching a taxi.
(Technically, in a way, you suppose it could’ve been the truth but you don’t imagine Red would appreciate Redbird being referred to as a taxi service; though, at the same time, he drives like a literal maniac, so, it doesn’t fit.
And yes, he did name his car.
And yes, it is actually named Redbird.
He claims he gets around by motorcycle more these days but that obviously wasn’t conducive with the weather, so he used the car instead. A very high-tech, ultra-expensive car that you had to wonder how the hell he managed to get. He’s your age, after all. But you refrained from asking. It’s impolite, considering everything he did for you.)
After Steph’s shift, you both head to her mom’s house, where Crystal Brown, a nurse at West Mercy, generously takes a look at your wrist, as equally as concerned as her daughter when she hears the story.
“It’s just a sprain,” she says, frowning. “I can’t be entirely certain without an X-ray but I don’t think anything is broken or fractured. No need for a brace, either, but if it keeps bothering you…”
“I’ll get it checked out,” you agree easily. “Thank you, Ms. Brown.”
“How many times do I have to tell you? Just call me Crystal.”
“You know how she is, Mom,” Steph sighs, folding her arms over the back of the chair you’re in, dropping her chin to your head.
“As hard-headed as you? Oh, I know.”
You smile bashfully as Steph snickers. Crystal rises from the table, stepping back to the stove, where she has dinner cooking. At their insistence, you agreed to spend the night.
Crystal has always been kind to you. Both this summer and the previous one did she tell you you were welcome to live with her and Steph here at their shared home, since neither of you could live in the dorms unless you took classes during the summer. Steph abstained from them to get more experience and you abstained because your financial aid wouldn’t cover it, which left you grappling with a three-month lease at the shitty student apartments near GU.
“No Tim?” Crystal asks, covering the pan, turning to look at you two.
Steph clicks her tongue, pulling away from you to flop into the chair beside yours; underneath the table, her ankle curls beneath yours, shin pressed to your calf.
“Busy as usual.”
“He doesn’t know?”
“It’s not that big of a deal—” at the looks you get from both of them, you quickly backtrack “—I mean, I’ll tell him later… That new Mission Impossible movie came out a few weeks ago, so I was gonna see if we could watch it together…”
Crystal frowns. “But you don’t like those movies. Does Tim like those ridiculous movies?”
She probably wouldn’t be displeased if he did. Crystal isn’t overly fond of Tim. Steph says it’s because of their relationship when they were kids but sometimes, it feels far too deep for it to be just that.
Still, she’s civil to him and he rarely says no when Steph invites him (and you) for dinner. If anything, you think Crystal doesn’t mind the opportunity to make him squirm. Steph probably doesn’t mind it, either.
Steph stretches her arms above her head. “It would be on par with him but no. These two just like watching them and making fun of them. I’m good, though.”
“I’ll tell him, then. He’d notice it, anyway, since my mobility is still limited, but yeah…”
“Well, be careful,” she says, mouth pursed. For some reason, it doesn’t feel like she’s talking about your wrist but about something else.
Steph coughs. Crystal looks back to the stove.
“Well, hopefully you two will see him soon. From what I’ve heard, it’s been a while.”
“Yeah,” you say heavily. “A while.”
Crystal doesn’t pay more attention as she focuses on the sizzle of the chicken breast but Steph does, giving you a lingering look that makes you look away.
You… try not to give away too much to her.
You feel horrible enough to be in love with her ex-boyfriend; pining after him in her presence is just the icing on the World’s Worst Best Friend cake.
That’s why you avoided him, after realizing the culmination of your feelings in May.
To see if you could shake the feelings, if you could get rid of them.
Considering how hung up you are on him still, it hasn’t worked.
But you still want to see him again. It’s selfish, probably, to be okay with avoiding him for your own gain and then when he does it on purpose, you want to put an end to it.
But you know now it wasn’t okay.
You want to see Tim, want to hear his bad science puns, you just want him around.
Your feelings won’t go away for a while but avoiding him was the wrong decision. You just have to handle it on your own like an adult.
You would if you could see him more.
You hope you can. Even if it kills you to act normally, to be okay with being friends. By this point, you’ve started to realize having him in any capacity is more than enough.
It has to be.

Tumblr media
You cry when the end credits start rolling.
Not because the movie is good or moving or even so bad that it makes you cry, you’re just…
So tired.
Tired of him never having time for you, for you and Steph.
One part of you wants to give up. What’s the point, right?
His continued lack of time means you can’t even apologize to him, can’t even ask if your initial avoidance was what led to his in the first place.
Mostly because it feels like it doesn’t even matter at this point.
Maybe this is what you deserve and there should be nothing else to say on the matter.
But that hurts even more.
You sit far at the back—shitty seats, he would say—but it gives you the privacy to shed a few tears.
You leave only when the end credits are almost done rolling and the theater is empty. You don’t care about the looks people give you, coming out red-eyed and sniffling from the Mission Impossible movie. You just want to go back to your apartment and hide away for the rest of the summer.
You emerge from the cinema; it’s only eight, so the sun is still out, warming you up from the chilly theater. Sighing, you start for the nearest station to take the subway back to Coventry.
You only get a couple blocks before your eyes catch the storefront of an ice cream parlor. Wallowing deep in self-pity by now, you easily take the detour. The patio in front of it is busy with people and through the large glass window, you see the line inside is long, too. But since you have nothing else to do, you head for it, anyway.
You’re halfway across the patio when you see it.
Through the window, in line for ice cream, is Tim.
Your eyes found him immediately, without intention or purpose. Poetic, almost, were it not for the fact of seeing him here breaks your heart.
Here, not just by himself but with friends. Friends you’ve never met but know of from pictures at his place.
You try to rationalize it initially, still standing there in the middle of the patio, staring into the parlor. Maybe the dinner was canceled. Maybe they dragged him out.
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
But then it makes you feel second best. Second choice. That he didn’t think of you when his schedule freed up.
That’s presumptuous, though, right? What gives you priority? Nothing, especially after what you pulled before.
But the ache in your chest hardly allows for that much introspection or self-awareness.
Mostly… Mostly, you’re just hurt.
Seeing him now, separated from you by thin glass, the yawning monster inside you that longs desperately for him is unleashed, because he is so close but he’s not here with you, for you. And that hurts. A physical thing, your chest tight, throat thick with growing emotion.
But then, he sees you.
His head turns and you go rigid as your eyes meet his, which widen as he recognizes you.
It’s been long, so terribly long, since you’ve seen him. See the soft blue of his eyes, this lovely shade, like cornflowers.
It makes this so much worse because you don’t think anything will change, even with this, so it’s like a taunt to see him, knowing this might be the last for a while. A long while.
Another moment between you two, the surprise on his face morphing into something else and you look away before you can see what it is, turning on your heel.
You have to get out of here.
The subway is across the street but the light just turned green. Too long.
The hiss of hydraulics snatches your attention. A bus, several feet away. One last person climbing on. You take off for it, scrambling for your wallet, ignoring how the rough motions make your wrist throb in protest.
You think you hear your name. You hope you don’t.
You barely wedge yourself in just as the doors close.
The bus driver eyes you with thinly-veiled suspicion but you pay the fare and take a seat at the far back, away from the windows.
You don’t even know where this bus is going.
You don’t care.
You just have to get away.
You bury your face in your hands, your tears flowing again as the bus pulls away from the curb.
Tumblr media
The worst part about it, you think, is that he doesn’t reach out to you.
Neither does Steph, but you reason expecting that is irrational. Why would he talk to her? Why would he tell her what happened?
You can’t do it, either. It’s for the best, maybe, that you don’t say anything about it at all.
Instead, as soon as you get back into your apartment, you collapse onto your threadbare couch and take a nap. Only dragging yourself off it when you have to get up and get ready for your shift, accompanied with the headache throbbing in the center of your forehead.
You trade off with the evening shift and things are quiet for the most part. To distract yourself (mostly to stop yourself from bursting into tears if you think too hard about what happened), you take on your night shift tasks with renewed vigor. Cleaning the floors, the machines, adjusting displays, doing inventory.
Your wrist protests throughout it but you ignore it.
Steph would scold you for it.
So would Tim.
You pause in the middle of cleaning the counter near the Slurpee machine. Your wrist throbs at your side.
The sharp gust of wind and the sound of your name surprises you.
Shocks you, really, since you’re still a bit on edge from Batman’s visit last week and you yelp, turning around, throwing the wet cloth on instinct.
Your visitor dodges it easily. It lands on the floor with a wet splat.
“Flash? What are you—what—?”
He tilts his head, grass-green eyes narrowing slightly, mouth pursing, and you get the unmistakable feeling of being scrutinized very closely.
“What are you doing here, Flash?” you question.
He keeps making that face. “I wanted to see you.”
That surprises you. You blink.
“Batman won’t like that.”
“Don’t care. I’m not here to cause trouble. Just here to see you. He can’t say anything.”
You don’t think that’ll stop him but you don’t say anything. Flash probably knows. He just doesn’t care. He’ll complain about it sometimes, go to lengths to avoid it, but other times, he just—doesn’t care.
Flash continues to look at you. Scrutinizing you.
You don’t bother trying to stop him from doing it. You’re too tired and the way your eyes are still red and swollen is telling, as well as the circles under your eyes.
“You look like shit.”
“Thanks, Flash.”
His frown deepens and one of his hands comes to your shoulders.
“Seriously… are you okay, kid?”
For some reason, that does it.
The smallest of splinters to your resolve first, your breath hitching, then it breaks entirely, emotion swelling inside you with tidal wave force, your vision blurring with tears.
Flash reels back in surprise at first, then softens, muttering, “Aw, kid,” and pulling you into a hug.
It doesn’t feel perfunctory. Like he is doing this out of obligation at seeing you cry, like this is just another one of his duties as a superhero. It feels genuine, the way he holds you tightly against his chest, like you’re a child being comforted.
That just makes you cry harder.
It takes a while for you to calm down. Then you get embarrassed, sniffling out an apology.
He hands you a napkin, then pokes you affectionately on the forehead.
“Geez, what do you take me for? I don’t mind. Besides, worse bodily fluids have ended up on me. Way worse. This is nothing.”
You laugh wetly.
He squeezes your shoulder. “Seriously, though. Seems like you’ve got some stuff to talk about. What’s going on?”
You squeeze your eyes shut as a fresh wave of tears briefly takes hold of you. You take a deep breath, working through it, blowing your nose.
Flash grabs two Slurpees, one cherry and one blue raspberry, and hops up on the counter, patting the spot beside him. You manage to wriggle up using just your right hand, your left still throbbing.
With plenty of breaks in between to cry a little bit more, you tell him everything that has gone on for the past month. Including the stuff with Red and the others, then your impromptu visit from Batman last week.
“That how you hurt your wrist?” he asks, thoroughly displeased as he reaches for it with gentle fingers. It’s more swollen than before, irritated from you ignoring your body’s warnings, warm to the touch.
“It wasn’t him,” you mumble. “Just me. I tripped and fell.”
He purses his lips but nods for you to continue, which you do, telling him about everything that happened today.
“It just sucks,” you whisper. “I mean, what I’m doing to Steph, first of all, by feeling like that and then with the stuff going on with Tim. I know I shouldn’t have avoided him earlier because of my own feelings and maybe this is what I deserve for it but…”
He shakes his head, seemingly bothered by all of this. Really bothered. You expected some, along with the concern, but all of that seems tripled for a reason you do not know.
He says your name, solemn. “You don’t deserve any of that. Sure, it was stupid but… you still don’t deserve that.”
“I can’t change it,” you sigh, setting your cup down. Your fingers are numb from the cold of it. “I just… I dunno. Had to get it out, I guess, so thanks. Why did you really come here, though?”
He sips his Slurpee. “I really came here for you. I just had this feeling… I don’t know. But it paid off, didn’t it?”
“True,” you admit.
“You want me to talk some sense into this kid?”
“Absolutely not.”
“I don’t know,” he muses, his thoughtful tone bellying the tension that seems to permanently reside in his body now; he’s really annoyed by it. You’re touched, if not a bit confused at the depth of his feelings. “I think I should. Might be good.”
“It’s not totally Tim’s fault—”
“His reaction is his own entirely. You shouldn’t have done what you did but anyone with any amount of common sense would talk to you about it instead of turning around and avoiding you, too. It’s dumb. Don’t let him off the hook.”
“Don’t let me off the hook.”
“I’m not. But from where I’m standing, his offenses greatly outweigh yours, especially with what seemed to happen today and… everything else.”
“Flash…”
“I’m just saying. I am, admittedly, a bit biased but… still. I’m not wrong, am I?”
You sigh. “I guess not.”
“Exactly. And for that stuff with your other friend… she hasn’t said anything about it, has she? I mean, I told you what it’s like for me and Pipes. We don’t feel like that for each other anymore. If I had some friend who turned out to like him, I wouldn’t care. So, what makes you think Stephanie does?”
You throw up your hands. “Most people would! Flash, not everyone takes that approach to their exes.”
“True,” he concedes. “But they’re clearly still friends and just friends.”
“But that doesn’t mean she’s okay with that. That doesn’t mean it’s okay. I shouldn’t… it never should have happened.”
Flash sighs, watching you for a minute. “This is a mess, isn’t it?”
You laugh humorlessly. “You’re just now getting that?”
“I knew before but this is… a mess of epic proportions. Seriously…” he mutters the last part, shaking his head slightly.
Before you can respond, the door opens. You can’t see it, the aisle hiding it, but Flash can; since he remains calm, you assume it isn’t anyone bad.
Then you hear your name, from a very familiar voice and—
“Steph?”
She appears around the aisle, her jean shorts and lilac purple t-shirt wrinkled and in a state of disarray, her hair equally as messy, frizzed from the humidity outside; a light sheen of sweat shines on her face. It’s like she rushed all the way over here.
You hop down from the counter, concerned. “Steph, what are you doing here? Is everything okay? What happened?”
She lifts a hand, cobalt blue eyes on Flash, saying, distractedly, “No, it’s… it’s alright, nothing’s wrong, I just… had to talk to you… Am I interrupting something?”
“Nope,” Flash says breezily, hoping from the counter. “You can talk to her. I was just visiting.”
“Wait—” you don’t want him to leave quite yet but you don’t know how to say that.
“I’ll hang around,” he assures you, tossing your empty Slurpee cups in your next blink; the only indication he did anything is the way they disappear and the breeze that hits you and Steph.
“Batman—”
“Don’t care. If anything, I might like to talk to him.”
“Flash,” you say, nervous, not willing to reveal what happened to Steph but also trying to tell him to very much not do that.
“I’m still thinking about it,” he says, lifting a shoulder. “But I’ll be around. I’ll come back in a few.”
He lifts a hand, then he is gone, the breeze following him much stronger this time.
“I guess you two really are friends,” Steph says when it calms, sending you a small smile, making you relax.
“Yeah…” Though friends didn’t quite cut it for you. Silly, probably, considering you don’t even know who he is under the cowl, but you can’t deny it to yourself. It’s hard to quantify exactly what he means to you—a friend, a big brother, some kind of weird uncle. If anything, it feels like an odd amalgamation of all those things. You wonder if that’s how he feels, too. You won’t ask. You can only handle so much disappointment in one night.
“I’m sorry to come by so suddenly,” she says next, her words oddly formal in a way that puts you on edge. “But I just had to talk to you.”
“About…?”
“About Tim.”
You go stiff. You try your best to school your expression, to not give anything away. After all, concerning him, it could be anything. What happened today, maybe. What’s been happening.
Or your feelings.
You really hope it’s not that.
You’ve only just started to realize you might be losing Tim. You can’t lose her.
You can’t.
“What about him?”
She says your name. Everything inside you tightens.
“I know. I know how you feel about him—”
Your throat aches when you swallow. Everything seems to come bursting out of you in the next second.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, Steph, I didn’t mean—I didn’t want—I wouldn’t do anything—” you take a step back, your heart squeezing painfully in your chest.
Her eyes widen and she steps forward, quickly closing the space between you, her hands coming to cradle your face.
“No, no, no, it’s okay, it’s okay—”
“No, it’s not, I never should’ve—god, I’m so sorry, Steph—” your vision blurs with tears.
She says your name again, keeping you in her grasp.
“I’ve known for a long time,” she quickly says. “Okay? I knew, but it’s okay. I was never mad at you, never, it’s okay, I promise.”
“But—but—”
She shushes you gently. “It’s okay. Deep breaths, alright?”
A couple tears trace down your cheeks. She wipes them away, a small smile forming on her lips—for you, entirely for you, the warmth there reflected in her eyes.
“Do you want to know a secret?” she asks, rubbing her thumb over your cheek. “It’s really easy to fall in love with Tim Drake. And this isn’t my roundabout way of telling you I have feelings for him. Those are long gone. I love him and he’ll always be my first love but that time has passed—for the both of us. But for you guys?”
“Stephie…”
“I don’t care that you have feelings for him. I really truly don’t. I just want you to be happy. I want you both to be happy. I think you two can do that for each other.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I’m not. I think… you’re good for him. He’s good for you. That’s all there is to it, okay? If you really want my blessing, you have it, but… it doesn’t matter to me that you like him. And I’ve known for a while but I just… I assumed you knew I was okay with it. Like it was the thing that was there but we never talked about. Stupid, I know. But… I just need you to know that. Alright?”
She hugs you. You bury your face in her shoulder, hugging her back just as tightly, unable to stop your tears from flowing.
“I’m not just saying this to try and be the bigger person, either,” she murmurs. “Go for it. It’s been long enough.”
“I don’t know…”
“Why?”
“I mean, he doesn’t… and today…”
Steph pulls away, frowning now. “He likes you, too.”
“No—”
“He does. I know.”
“Then why has he…” You can’t keep going, biting your lip.
“‘Cause he’s an idiot,” she mutters. “In more ways than one. But… I’m going to fix it, okay?”
“No, no, don’t—”
“It’s okay. There’s… there’s other stuff going on right now and we need to take care of that first, then you can talk about your feelings. But I’m going to fix it, okay? I’m going to try.”
“You don’t have to, this is our mess, my mess, I was the one who started avoiding him in May after finally realizing my feelings and then he…” you trail off, sniffling.
“There’s something else,” she says cryptically. “That’s… just take my word for it. But I’m going to fix it. He’s been an idiot long enough and I’m not going to keep tolerating it, not if he’s going to keep hurting you.”
You shake your head, confused. Is she talking about today? Did he tell her? You have no idea…
“He only did it because I did.”
“No, no, it’s… it’s complicated, okay?”
You snort despite yourself. “You think?”
She smiles finally. “I know. It’s… a lot. But don’t worry. I’m going to get him to see the light. Not literally, though I wouldn’t mind roughing him up a bit just for how idiotically he’s been acting but… another time.”
You’re still confused. Terribly, terribly confused. But Steph is so impassioned, so sure, you let it go.
“Let me help,” you say. “I should be the one doing this but—but let me help. I need to. It’s my mess, too.”
“It’s all of us,” she sighs. “And right now, I’m in a unique position. So… let me, okay? Don’t worry about it. I’ll tell you more later, but hopefully, I can get something together soon. Just sit tight, alright?”
“You do too much for me,” you whisper.
“I’m doing what I should be doing,” she says, looking… guilty almost before the look is gone. “This has gone on long enough.”
She leans forward to kiss your forehead. “But it’s gonna be okay. We’ll make it better.”
You just nod, going along with it for now.
You scrape yourself together after a few minutes, wiping your tears away and blowing your nose. Steph hangs around long enough for Flash to return, at which point she bids you a regretful goodbye, telling you she’ll talk to you tomorrow. You worry about her getting home but she brought her car, or so she tells you, and Flash generously sees her out.
After a couple minutes, he returns.
“So?” he asks expectantly.
“You were right,” you mutter. “She’s fine with it. I’m not entirely sure why she had to rush out to tell me or what she’s planning to fix but… I don’t think I can stop her.”
“No, I don’t think so, either,” he agrees lightly. “I don’t think you should, either. It’s probably important.”
“I guess,” you sigh. “I still don’t think she should be doing it but…”
“There might be more pieces in play than you think.”
You send him a look. “I got enough cryptic talk from her. I don’t want any more from you.”
He holds up his hands, smiling. “No more cryptic talk. Got it. I do, however, come bearing gifts.”
“Where on earth—?”
“Well, I already had them when I came here. I wanted to check on you and give you this stuff, but we got interrupted,” he says. “Give me a second.”
You give him a second.
He leaves and comes back in that time. You raise an eyebrow.
“Check it out,” he says, holding out a box.
You take it from him. It’s a small thing, easily held in your hand. You pull off the top.
And promptly blink as the shiny display of a phone greets you.
“Flash, what—”
He can’t wait for you to finish asking your question, apparently too eager to tell you.
“It’s a phone, for you. But it’s programmed with my contact info, that way you can talk to me, and you can move all the stuff on your old phone over, too. It really is just a regular phone. Well, it does have League-level encryptions on it, but you know.”
“Flash… this is too much.”
“Not really,” he says. “I couldn’t give you that info without making sure your phone was secure and it would’ve been a lot more work to get yours secured, too. Besides, let’s be real, your phone has seen much better days. I think it deserves to finally be able to rest.”
“Jerk,” you laugh.
He shrugs. “Not wrong, though. Anyway, it’s not just for emergencies. You can talk to me. Text me. You know.”
“Flash,” you say, suddenly overwhelmed with emotion, pressing a hand to your face.
He looks like he wants to say something else but stops himself last minute and just gives you a small smile.
“Come on. Let’s set it up.”
You agree, not wanting to continue to refuse since it would be rude and… you do want to have a way to talk to him. Not just for emergencies but other stuff, too. This stuff.
So much is still up in the air.
But you can focus on the here and now, with Flash here to ease your burdens.

au where selina adopts dick instead of bruce
- selina goes with bruce to the circus as a date
- when the Graysons fall, she knows bruce is reliving what happened to his parents
- she kisses bruce on the cheek and stealthily makes her way through the crowd to the youngest Grayson
- selina has always had motherly instincts, it’s why she has so many cats. she’s known for taking in strays, so what’s one more?
- she pulls dick into a hug and he melts into her, he just needs someone to hold him right now
- selina reminds dick of his mother- the same warm brown skin, the same tight embrace, both kissing the top of his head and whispering reassurances with a slightly accented voice
- she whisks him away from the police (she doesn’t trust them in general, let alone with a newly orphaned child) and lets bruce deal with the consequences. dick sits on her couch with a cat in his lap as selina introduces herself and explains everything to him
- dick is just glad he doesn’t have to go with the cops or social services (he knows not to trust them), and his gut is telling him he can trust selina. after all, animals are a great judge of character and all of the cats seem to love her
- bruce is aware selina took dick in, but considering how quickly the police give up looking for the boy, bruce doesn’t mind her essentially kidnapping him
(selina eventually becomes a foster parent and legally fosters dick, but it’s years later and the police/legal system don’t care enough to worry about a previously missing persons suddenly appearing as a foster kid. gotta love Gotham)
- dick is still young and angry and wants revenge on tony zucco. selina is honest about her identity as Catwoman, and he asks her to help him get back at the man who killed his parents
- together, they steal his most prized possessions, bankrupt him, and overall ruin his life, and then they hand him over to the cops with evidence of his crimes duct-taped to him
- dick is a natural at stealth, thanks to his acrobatic abilities, and he begs selina to train him. he wants to be like robin hood, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, and who is selina to deny him that?
- selina will still steal jewels from museums and such for herself, but she does that solo. together, the two of them go after corrupt rich people and steal their money, distributing it to the poor
- dick teaches himself how to hack and is able to access bank accounts, making it much easier to steal large amounts of money. selina is extremely proud of him
- selina makes dick his own suit and he goes by Stray. he is typically the one to give out money to people on the streets, and he’s eventually known by most of Gotham. bruce carefully ignores this happening, because he recognizes that Stray is helping the people of Gotham in a way Batman can’t
- bruce still finds and adopts jason, but his costume and name are obviously not Robin. probably Batboy. anyway, dick hears about Batman’s new sidekick and immediately thinks “friend? potential friend?” so he follows them around and befriends jason
- jason knows about Stray, and has a slight hero worship of him ‘cuz he’s like robin hood!’ which dick (and selina) find adorable
(dick is about 10 when his parents die, 12 when he becomes Stray officially, and 16 when jason (13) becomes Batboy)
- tim, when he finds out about dick being fostered by selina kyle after being declared missing for years, of course goes to confront them. dick was (still is) his childhood hero, and he was so worried when the older boy was declared missing
- at least until he recognized dick as Stray, but he couldn’t exactly confront him then
- anyway so tim shows up at selina’s apartment and demands to see dick. selina is like “you are tiny, come inside” and calls for dick. it takes dick a moment but he recognizes tim and hugs him. tim clings to him and dick just accepts it
- tim gives him the photo they took together and some others he found in the newspaper of dick and his parents. dick cries and thanks him
- they get to talking and dick & selina are like “how did you get here? where are your parents?” and tim is just like “oh they’re in egypt. i rode my bike here :)”
- this of course leads to dick and selina stealing tim and leaving bruce to deal with the consequences once again
- it’s easily resolved, selina becomes tim’s emergency contact and they talk to his parents; whenever janet and jack are away, tim will stay at selina’s. blackmail might be involved but a deal’s a deal
(dick is officially fostered by selina right after jason is adopted by bruce, and about 6 months after that tim (10) confronts selina and reunites with dick)
~ time skip ~
- dick goes to Gotham University and lives on campus but stays with selina every weekend. his major is undecided and he eventually drops out to start paramedic training
- when bruce doesn’t believe jason (15) about Garzonas, he runs away to selina’s where dick (18) and tim (12) comfort him. he tells them about sheila haywood and they research her, but jason ends up deciding not to go after her
- selina has a Talk with bruce and he apologizes to jason, inviting him back as Batboy. jason agrees but visits selina’s apartment far more often. he is Batboy for a few more years before offering the mantle to tim and going off to college
- tim respectfully declines being Batboy, and since jason never dies and bruce never goes off the deep end, it isn’t necessary for him to take on that role
- babs is still Batgirl and then Oracle, and tim decides to train under her with computer stuff instead of going out in a mask. tim helps both Batman and Stray when they need it
(babs becomes Batgirl around the time dick becomes Stray, and becomes Oracle a year into jason’s run as Batboy. she views jason as a little brother, and has a sort of Batman/Catwoman relationship with Stray (aka dick flirts with her as Batgirl and she pretends to hate it. they don’t actually date but end up becoming good friends) dick goes after the joker when babs gets paralyzed and breaks both of his legs. he is Oracle’s #1 fan and is super happy when tim decides to train under her)
(babs is about 2 years older than dick, and balanced being a college student/graduate with being a vigilante. she’s a total badass and works more with the Birds of Prey than Batman, but always has time for dick jason and tim)
- babs becomes a lawyer. dick becomes a paramedic and gives Stray to tim, instead becoming Nightwing- a medic vigilante. tim takes on the mantle of Stray and does the robin hood gig. jason leaves the vigilante life behind and goes to college, majoring in english and minoring in education (he wants to become an english teacher and give Gotham kids good educations)

Home Alone
Some days, Tim was really fucking glad to have Batman for a next-door neighbor.
He couldn't exactly remember a time when he was quite this glad or relieved, though. He'd never been on the verge of being kidnapped before.
But that was ok. He wasn't going to be kidnapped.
He had a plan.
Call the police would probably have been more rational, but the power was all still dead from the snowstorm, and Tim figured the roads to Bristol were blocked up, too. At the very least, his driveway was, and it was long enough to be considered its own short road.
Stupid fucking snowstorm. It was its fault that Tim's parents couldn't get back in town, and that he was alone and trying not to end up kidnapped on Christmas.
But it was ok. Because he wouldn't. Because he had a plan. And about two hours to set it into motion. And if it failed, the kidnappers were probably just going to be so pissed they'd kill Tim, so technically his goal of don't get kidnapped would still be met.
Technicalities were usually much more fun.
Tim ran around the house in a frenzy, darting glances out the window every few minutes to make sure the creepy men hadn't gotten any closer. But no, they were still huddled around their fires out in the yard, waiting for him to surrender.
Big fat nope to that one. Tim didn't know who they were working for, or why that guy wanted an eleven-year-old kid, but he knew it was most definitely for something very bad, and he wasn't interested in the particulars.
He paused, shuddering at the thought that entered his head, then scattered a few more Lego pieces on the floor.
The thing was, Tim could neither call for help nor run away while the power was out and the bad guys were surrounding the house. But if he got them inside the house, and made sure they couldn't follow, then he could race across the half-mile stretch to the property line. Crossing that would trigger Batman's security, and he'd come and investigate and bring Tim somewhere safe and beat up the bad guys, and maybe even be impressed at how clever and resourceful Tim had been.
Of course, even getting outside hinged on how many bad guys actually did come inside, and how many got caught in Tim's traps long enough to give him a head start. The traps had never been tested, after all, and Tim only had time for so many math calculations to determine their effectiveness. Drake Manor was also so large that he couldn't sufficiently cover it. He'd have to guide the bad guys where he wanted them to go.
Which meant he was using himself as live bait.
... It was gonna be fine.
The clock began striking nine as Tim finished his second-floor traps and double-checked the wiring. His heartbeat was going crazy in his chest, and he took deep, slow breaths in time with the chimes to steady himself. If he hyperventilated and passed out, he was worse than dead.
"TIMOTHY DRAKE," boomed the voice that had called out before, somehow magnified so that each word was perfectly clear, "THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE. SURRENDER NOW AND YOU WILL NOT BE HARMED. REFUSE, AND WE WILL USE ALL FORCE TO APPREHEND YOU."
Tim threw open the nearest window and stuck his head out, squinting against the snow to see the nearest fire. He didn't know if the man was at that one or not, but it didn't matter. He was sure his cry of "FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE! EAT SHIT!" was heard by all.
He slammed the window shut as the voice yelled furiously and sprinted down the stairs, skipping over the wires and traps. He wasn't sure how many were going to enter in each direction, but the first landing was the best place to bring them all closer.
Tim had to wait there for several minutes, anxiety building, before he heard the first cry of pain. It sounded like it came from the front door, and Tim smirked, thinking of the heavy vase that had just gotten shattered over the bad guy's head.
Strangled swearing erupted from the kitchen where superglue had stolen shoes to bare feet to a sea of Legos. A howl rose from the living room where a hot plate had been set under the window.
"DRAKE!"
"Last chance to surrender!" Tim hollered mockingly, wiping sweaty hands on his pants.
Screams and a terribly loud bang meant that his flashbomb had successfully blinded someone, and the most creative swear Tim had ever heard in his life confirmed that sticking his mother's sewing needles into the grey carpet had been a stroke of genius.
"You will pay for this, you insolent whelp!"
"You want it in cash or credit?" Tim needed them closer. Besides, it was just a little bit fun to tease.
"In blood!"
The first man appeared at the foot of the stairs. He held his right hand close to his chest, but otherwise looked unharmed. He must have avoided the lighter in the hall, though by the sound of it, one of his buddies hadn't.
Tim gulped. All he could see above the black ninja mask was the man's eyes, and he looked furious.
"Um, how about traveler's checks?"
The man started up the stairs with a roar and immediately toppled backwards, slipping on the generous coating of oil over the hardwood.
"Oh, yeah, I just polished that."
One man staggered into the foyer from the front hall. He still had dust and broken pottery on his head and shoulders, and his eyes looked unfocused. Another limped in from the kitchen, barefoot and glaring. He drew a knife, and Tim scrambled backwards.
"No!" The first man grabbed the other's wrist. He didn't look happy about it, but he said, "Lord Ra's wants the boy alive."
"He can live without his arrogant little tongue!"
Tim tried to think up something clever to say, to get them to come up the stairs, but he really did not want them any closer than they were. Out in the yard, they couldn't hurt him, but here they could. They could hurt Tim very, very bad.
Two more ninjas stumbled in, one blinking and squinting, pant leg still smoldering. The other, who looked like a woman, was walking on the sides of her feet. She left a thin trail of blood behind her, and Tim both felt sorry and wished it were worse all at once.
"He's lost his tongue even without your blade, Hans," laughed the first man. "Not so brave now, are you, boy?"
Brave, Tim. Brave like Robin.
Jason wouldn't be scared of these goons, and neither would Dick. Dick would make fun of them, and Jason would cuss them out, so Tim did both.
"Like hell I'm scared of you shit-faces! The wax dummies at the history museum would make better ninjas than you!"
Hans yelled and ran at the stairs. He didn't hear the first man yell, "Fool, it's oiled!" until he was already flat on his back. Tim listened very hard, but couldn't hear anyone else in the house. He taunted, "Where's the rest of you? Maybe you could use the power of friendship to figure it out," to make sure.
"Thank whatever god guards you there are none others," the woman snarled. "Or you would choke on your blood even as you laugh."
"Dramatic," Tim quipped weakly, voice a bit too high.
"How did we fail him that Lord Ra's would punish us this way," moaned Pottery Man. "Being tormented and mocked by an infant."
"Hey!" Tim cried, indignant. "I'm eleven and five twelfths!"
"Enough of this!" Number One shouted. "Hans, the servant's stair, Edda, the back stair. Jethro, the dumbwaiter." They scattered, and One began stalking up the oiled stairs, clinging to the rail and motioning the blinded man to stay behind. "You think we do not know every hall and stair in this house, boy? Every entrance and exit? What do you think will be your salvation if you stall us?"
Tim swallowed, edging into the hall and carefully pushing open the first door. He may have to adjust his escape plan.
"Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Steven Spielberg, 1981!" Tim hollered. He dove out of the way as his father's massive, prized floor globe, the one twice the size and weight of Tim, rolled down the improvised ramp and onto the stairwell, gathering speed every second.
Tim took off, running down the hall to his bedroom without looking back. He heard screaming from several parts of the house, and would have jeered at them about not expecting him to know how to trap his own house, but he no longer wanted to give away his location. He'd need extra time now. Climbing down from his window was going to be a hell of a lot harder than climbing the rope he'd put in the dumbwaiter for himself.
Tim pulled out his army knife as he passed the dumbwaiter door and started sawing at the rope, grateful the set-up could double as another trap. He didn't even have to cut all the way through, the ninja's weight snapping the fibers in seconds once they frayed. He heard a yell and an awful snap.
The cry of, "I'll kill you, brat!" should not have been comforting, but Tim didn't want to have killed anybody, so it was.
He made it to his room, shut and locked the door, then shoved his dresser against it, grunting and panting. He had to lean against it for a moment to catch his breath, swiping the sweat from his forehead. He gave himself thirty seconds, but dropped it to twenty when the shouting drew nearer.
"I can do this," Tim whispered, stepping onto the windowsill and staring down. "I can totally, one hundred percent do this."
He sat down and shimmied around until he was clutching the window ledge with ungloved hands. His fingers were already freezing. His toes hung and flailed in open air for a few terrifying seconds before they found crevices in the weathered brick.
Tim took a deep breath.
Slowly, inch by inch, he worked his way down the wall until his feet hit the top of the first floor window. His fingers scraped and bled against the bricks, turning white with cold and terror. Sweat ran down his face and back, making him hot and cold both at once. Once he got his hand or foot on a hold, it was hard to make himself move again.
Carefully -- oh, so, so carefully, when Tim's feet hit the top of that window, did he turn his head over his shoulder. The snow rose to the bottom of the window, making the drop only about three feet into a cushion. Tim closed his eyes and jumped.
The snow crunched loudly beneath him, and he broke through it up to his knees. He didn't dare waste time celebrating, but immediately started off, hoping the blizzard would help to cover his tracks.
Half a mile due east. Tim could make it.
Half a mile through ever-deeper snow, in wind and dark, with only a coat and boots, and furious ninjas hunting him down.
Tim had to make it.
At first he tried to run, shoving his hands in his pockets to make them warm, but it was like trying to run through a pool, and Tim soon found himself basically swimming with his arms and legs. Within minutes (though each felt like an hour) he couldn't feel his fingers at all.
The snow was high enough to slip into the tops of his boots, melting into his socks and making his feet grow numb. Tim started crying, only realizing it when the tear tracks burned down his cheeks and froze there. Every breath became a white cloud in front of his face.
The whole world had turned into the snowstorm. Tim didn't know anymore if he was going east or west, north or south, up or down. If he was still going towards Batman and safety, or if he'd got so turned around he was about to run right into the ninjas' arms. He stumbled and staggered, knowing he had to keep moving no matter where he ended up. Fall down in the snow, and he was never getting back up.
Then finally, finally, Tim saw light in the distance.
"Help!" he cried, but his voice was ripped away by the wind.
"Batman! Mr. Wayne! Robin! Help me, please!"
A shadow blocked the light, and Tim sobbed in relief as arms hugged him tight.
"So this was your clever plan, was it, boy? No wonder Lord Ra's took an interest in you."
Tim screamed and started thrashing, but the ninja had his arms pinned, and the snow blocked his kicks. He tried to bite, but there was nothing in front of his face but thick cloth.
"Let go!" he wailed. He was so close, he couldn't fail now. "Let me fucking go! Hel--mmph!"
Tim was spun around and a hand covered his mouth, grip bruisingly tight, enough that Tim couldn't even move his jaw, let alone bite.
"Oh, no, boy," the ninja snarled in his ear. "You will be brought before the Demon's Head, and punished for every injury inflicted, and even the great Detective can't save you!"
"Can't he?"
Tim's heart leapt as a hulking shadow appeared out of the snow, Batman's unmistakable growl now a roar over the wind. He had done it! He'd gotten to Batman! He was saved!
And then he felt ice cold metal against his throat.
"Stay out of this, Detective. Lord Ra's cares not if he must resurrect his prize."
Tim trembled, even though he'd stopped shivering ages ago. He didn't know what that meant, but he never wanted to find out.
"He should care that Gotham and its people are under my protection. Let the boy go, or there will be retaliation."
"We do not fear your posturing, Detective," the ninja sneered. He started dragging Tim back, away from Batman and safety. "And we do not fear your allies. But continue to oppose us now, and we will strike you down--"
"Wanna bet?"
There was a loud thunk and the ninja's hold went slack. The knife dropped to the snow, its wielder crumpling, and Tim stumbled, grabbing for his throat to be sure it wasn't bleeding.
"Kid? Kid, what's wrong, are you hurt?" Robin hollered over the wind.
Tim slowly shook his head, staring at the ninja. He felt something warm and big and surprisingly soft drape over his shoulders, like a blanket, and looked up to see Batman leaning over him with his cape.
"You're freezing," he murmured, sounding much more like Mr. Wayne. "Robin, get him inside!" His voice dipped back to a growl as he said, "I'll deal with the League."
"Here, kid."
Batman was replaced by Robin, but the cloak remained wrapped around Tim. He was bundled tighter into it, then scooped right off the ground and into Robin's arms. He squeaked in surprise, but pressed closer because Robin was so warm.
"Geez, you're tiny!" Robin half-shouted, wading through the snow only a little faster than Tim had. "How old are you, kid?"
"Eleven and a half," Tim mumbled. Jason Todd was a fine one to talk about being small for one's age.
As Robin muttered something like, because the half makes all the difference, a big black shape loomed out of the snow right in front of Tim's face. It took him far too long to realize it was a Bat-Snowmobile; Robin had plopped him on top and climbed on behind him before he registered the headlights had turned on.
"Hang on tight!" Robin ordered, and the engine roared to life.
Tim yelped, grabbing Robin as the vehicle lurched and zoomed into the storm, throwing his arms around the older boy's neck and hiding his face against his shoulder. One arm wrapped around Tim's waist and gently squeezed.
"Just hang in there a few more minutes, squirt. It's not far."
"What's not far?"
Not Tim's house. Please, not Tim's house. He didn't want to go back and run into the rest of the bad guys -- the League -- without Batman. Robin was awesome and warm, but Batman was powerful, and Tim didn't think the League would give up without more of a fight.
Robin hesitated before answering. "Wayne Manor is just under a quarter mile. They can look after you while I go back to help Batman."
Tim sighed in relief. Wayne Manor would be warm and safe, and until Batman and Robin came back to be Bruce Wayne and Jason Todd, Tim would no doubt be looked after by Alfred Pennyworth, and he was as powerful as Batman himself in Tim's book.
I did it, he thought happily, cuddling closer to Robin's warmth. I actually fucking did it.
"Eat shit, Lord Ra's."
Robin laughed.
After only a few more minutes, Wayne Manor appeared, looming out of the dark with a few cheerily lit windows. There was a glowing Christmas tree visible through one, and seeing it warmed something other than Tim's fingers.
Robin parked the Bat-Snowmobile outside the back kitchen door and swung himself off, then scooped up Tim to plop him on the ground. He kept an arm around Tim's shoulders as he went and knocked on the door. Tim could see the kitchen lights on, and it only took a minute before the door opened to reveal Alfred Pennyworth in a robe and nightshirt.
"Good heavens!" he exclaimed, and immediately backed up to usher them inside.
"Mr. Pennyworth, this is Tim Drake, your next-door neighbor," Robin introduced. "His home was attacked tonight by the League of Assassins, and he had to run a long way through the cold. If you would look after him and warm him up, Batman and I will be back before too long."
"I-- yes, of course," Mr. Pennyworth said, surprise changing to concern. "Thank you, Master Robin."
Robin nodded and ruffled Tim's hair. "You'll be safe here for a while, ok, squirt? Batman or I'll be back soon."
Tim nodded, and Robin grinned and left. Tim could hear the roar of the Bat-Snowmobile as it tore off outside.
Mr. Pennyworth turned to put a kettle on the stove, then told Tim, "Come, let's get you out of those wet things, Master Tim."
Tim nodded eagerly, stumbling a bit on frozen feet as he followed Mr. Pennyworth to a bathroom, still clutching Batman's cape around his shoulders.
"I'll set some of Master Jason's things outside the door for you. You're about the same size, I think. If you can find your way back to the kitchen, I'll have hot cocoa ready in moments."
"You don't have to go to any trouble," Tim said shyly.
"Nonsense, dear boy." Mr. Pennyworth smiled. "Tisn't any trouble at all, I assure you."
He left, and Tim stripped out of his sweats and socks. He hated to drop Batman's cape on the ground, but it had gotten soggy with snow just like everything else. He tried to fold it up, but it was like trying to fold his sheets, it was so huge.
A knock came at the door, and Mr. Pennyworth called that there were pajamas and a sweatshirt outside. Tim answered with a thank you and waited a moment before sticking one hand out the door to snatch the bundle.
He was startled into a laugh to see that the pajamas were themed like Batman and the hoodie like Nightwing. He wondered if Dick had gotten it for Jason. There were also a non-themed pair of slippers, and now that the feeling was coming back to Tim's toes, he could tell they were wonderfully soft.
Once dressed, he found his way back to the kitchen, where a kettle was starting to whistle before Mr. Pennyworth plucked it off the stove.
"Warming up, Master Tim?"
"Yes, thank you, Mr. Pennyworth."
The butler tutted. "Alfred is quite alright, dear boy."
"Thank you, Alfred," Tim corrected shyly. He'd never called an adult by their first name before.
A very loud yawn from behind made Tim jump, turning to look at the doorway, where...
Tim blinked.
Where stood Jason Todd.
He was dressed in Wonder Woman pajama pants and a red hoodie, rumpled like he'd been asleep, but his hair was still damp and his nose and cheeks pink from the snow and cold. His eyes looked bleary and sleepy, like he'd just woken up, but he most definitely scanned over Tim like he was looking for injuries.
"'S goin' on, Alf?" he asked, slurring his voice to sound half-awake. "Who's that?"
Tim just kept staring, dumbfounded, as Alfred said, "You recall young Timothy Drake, Master Jason? I'm afraid he ran into quite the spot of trouble tonight. Robin brought him here for us to look after until the situation is resolved."
Jason's eyes widened like he hadn't himself, as Robin, dropped Tim off ten minutes ago. "No way," he muttered. "What the hell were you doing, Timbit, that you got mixed up in superhero stuff?"
Tim hesitated.
"Batman! Mr. Wayne! Robin! Help me, please!"
"So this was your clever plan, was it, boy? No wonder Lord Ra's took an interest in you."
Tim hadn't had any idea just why he was being almost-kidnapped, except maybe for ransom or something, until the ninja had said that, and Batman showed up seeming to know all about that Lord Ra's guy and his ninja-kidnappers. At the time, he'd been too terrified to analyze, but now he wondered...
Did Ra's somehow know that Tim knew who Batman was? Tim didn't think that was possible. He hadn't even told his parents. But maybe Ra's was a mind-reader. Or had some kind of special powers. But then why would he need Tim to tell him who Batman was? Especially when the ninja sounded like Ra's and his League already knew all about Batman.
"Timber?"
Tim blinked and looked back at Jason. He and Alfred were both watching Tim, sharp-eyed. That was when he realized Jason wasn't just asking as a shocked civilian, he was investigating as Robin. In order to protect Tim, he and Batman needed to know why he'd been endangered in the first place.
"I...I don't know," he admitted. Jason's mouth twisted into a thoughtful frown, until Tim hesitantly added, "But I might have a guess?"
"Yeah? What do you think?"
Alfred set a cup of steaming cocoa on the table in front of Tim. It warmed his face, and he almost thought it burned his hands when he cupped them around it, but he didn't care. One sip warmed him all over inside, like he hadn't been cold or frightened at all. He wondered if Alfred was magic.
There was another clink of ceramic, and Tim realized Jason had gotten a mug of cocoa, too, and had sat down across from Tim. He held out a bowl of marshmallows, and Tim took two with a soft thanks.
Jason waited until Tim had taken two more sips before prompting, "Timmers? What's your guess?"
Tim took a deep breath, trying to calculate how mad Batman was going to be when he found out, and blurted, "I know who Batman and Robin are."
"What? No way! Who are they? How did you figure it out?" Jason gasped, face splitting into a grin, looking for all the world like someone expecting to hear the most amazing secret in the world.
But Tim saw the panic behind his eyes.
"I wouldn't tell you, if you didn't know," he promised. "But they're you. You and Mr. Wayne. I... I know because it was Dick Grayson first. He's the only person ever who can do a quadruple flip, and I saw Robin do it with my own eyes."
Jason stared.
Alfred stared.
Tim ducked his head and stared at his cocoa.
Then Jason said slowly, "You... you saw the first Robin in person? Doing a four-flip?"
"Yes?"
"How... how old were you?"
Tim frowned, calculating. "Nine?"
Alfred coughed.
"You were nine," Jason repeated. "And you were out in Gotham and saw Robin. Doing a fancy flip. And figured out one of the most dangerous and well-kept secrets in the city."
"Yes," Tim said, a bit more confidently. "Like I said, only Dick Grayson can do that flip. And if he's Robin, Bruce Wayne has to be Batman. And you have to be the next Robin. It's... it's just logic."
It's just logic, Jason mouthed. His lips stayed parted in astonishment as he turned to look at Alfred.
"That's... quite impressive, Master Tim," he managed. "Although, might I inquire... just what were the circumstances under which you saw Robin's flip?"
Tim hastily took a sip of cocoa. Jason raised his eyebrows and copied him, not setting down his mug until Tim did. Tim immediately took another sip. Jason and Alfred exchanged a glance.
"IusedtofollowBatmanandRobinaroundatnightandtakepictures," Tim blurted.
Jason blinked rapidly several times before suggesting, "A-again... slowly, please?"
"I... I used to, to follow Batman and Robin around at night. And take pictures."
"And your parents let you?" Jason yelped.
"They didn't... exactly know?"
"How...?" Jason's voice kept sounding more and more strangled. If Tim didn't know better, he'd have thought an invisible villain was throttling him.
"Well..." Tim ducked his head, shoulders almost rising to his ears. He stared intently at the melting marshmallows in his cocoa as he said, "They're not really around much."
"What exactly do you mean by 'not much,' Master Tim?" Alfred asked, both firm and kind, but also concerned.
Tim's ears felt hot. "They're usually on digs. They come back for a weekend or so every couple months. So they never knew I went out at night. I never told them I figured out who you are. I promise that I've never told anybody, and I never would tell anybody, even that Ra's guy, no matter what he did!"
He looked back up at Jason and Alfred, hoping they could see the honesty in his face.
Their faces showed a mix of shock and horror. Jason's eyes were wide and round, but Alfred's were pinched, and his mouth was drawn into a hard line. Tim swallowed nervously.
"You're a very impressive young lad, Master Tim," Alfred said in a carefully measured voice. "If you'll excuse me a moment, I think I ought to go inform Master Bruce of... these developments. I assume your parents were not home tonight?"
"Their flight got cancelled," Tim admitted. He wondered for the first time, as Alfred nodded curtly and stepped out of the room, if Batman had a mind-wipe machine or something. He very much hoped not.
Jason made a low whistle, then murmured, "Well, damn." He took a sip of cocoa, looking at the door Alfred had left through.
"What's 'well damn'?" Tim asked, voice too high.
"Alfie's 'bout'a go off," Jason chuckled, then, seeing Tim's expression, clarified, "not on you, Timberly, on your parents. And Ra's. Definitely also on Ra's."
"Why would Alfred be mad at my parents? And what does he need to tell Batman? Are you mad at me? Because I figured it out? Or..." Tim gasped in horror. "Or because I led them here? I led them here! Oh, God, I told a villain who Batman is! I--"
"Tim! Tim, calm down, it's ok!" Jason seemed torn between laughter and concern, but he reached out and put a bracing hand on Tim's shoulder. "You didn't do anything wrong. Ra's already knows who we are. Alfred just has to tell Bruce, um. Not to look for your parents. And why they're not there. And that's why he's pissed off, because nobody should leave a little kid all by himself for all but a few weekends out of the year."
Jason looked pissed himself when he said the last bit. Unfortunately, all of it just left Tim with even more questions. But even as he opened his mouth to ask them, there was a loud rattling and banging from above.
"What was that?" Tim yelped, jumping and spilling cocoa on the table.
"The storm," Jason said, completely expressionless. He grabbed some napkins from the holder on the table and dropped them on the spill, clearing it with one neat swipe. "Don't worry about it."
"You're sure it's not the ninjas?"
Jason snorted. "Don't ever let them hear you call them that. I'm sure, kid. Batman's got it covered."
Alfred came back into the kitchen muttering about reception, and took Tim's and Jason's empty mugs over to the sink to wash. There was a loud pounding from up above, first moving distant, then drawing near again. Tim realized it was running feet.
He raised his eyebrows at Jason.
"The storm, huh?"
Jason shrugged with a smile too mischievous to be innocent.
A moment later, Bruce Wayne appeared in the doorway, hair mussed and face pink, barefoot and wearing a red bathrobe that did not succeed at hiding the Batsuit underneath.
The way he blinked and squinted at the warm kitchen light appeared genuine, but he sounded far too awake as he said, "Alfred, what's going on? Who's this? Jason? I thought you went to bed."
Jason glanced at Tim, mischief peaking.
"Dad!" he exclaimed, jumping up and running over. "Dad, you'll never guess what happened! This is Tim Drake, from next door, and he was attacked by supervillains and Batman and Robin came and saved him and brought him here!"
"Oh! My... God..." Mr. Wayne faltered, glancing from Alfred (who's back was turned to hide his smile) to Tim (who was just as confused as he seemed) to Jason (who was grinning just a bit too wide), before narrowing a bit at the last one.
Jason beamed up at him, and Mr. Wayne apparently decided not to worry about it, because he turned to Tim and asked, "Are you alright, Tim?"
"I... think so," Tim said slowly, staring at Jason, who was mouthing at him. Mr. Wayne glanced down at his son suspiciously, but Jason shut his mouth in an instant.
"Are you hurt at all? Cold?"
"No, I'm ok now. Mr... uh, Alfred's hot chocolate warmed me right up."
Mr. Wayne smiled. "It does that quite well. Are..." He turned hesitant again, glancing at them all before asking, "Do you know if your parents are alright? If they escaped?"
"They weren't even there," Jason said, bright smile turning downright ferocious. "They leave Tim all alone in the house all year and only come in for a weekend every once in a while. And since that's criminal neglect, and Batman and Robin asked us to take care of him, I guess I got a little brother for Christmas like I asked for after all!"
Tim stared. Mr. Wayne stared. Jason beamed. Alfred coughed in a way that sounded much too much like a laugh.
"Um..." Tim started, but had no idea how to continue.
"It... I... don't think it's all quite that simple, Jay," Mr. Wayne cautioned hesitantly. Jason just stared straight up into his face, both grinning and glaring at the same time. It was mildly terrifying, and Mr. Wayne cleared his throat before turning to Tim. "But of course, you're more than welcome to stay with us until it's safe. We'll be glad to have you."
Tim stammered out a thank you, wondering if Mr. Wayne offered because he knew as Batman that it wasn't safe. He hoped not. As awesome as being Jason Todd's little brother sounded, Tim already had parents and a home, even if they were... distant. He also wondered why Jason was pretending he was an ordinary civilian, and that Tim didn't know better. And Alfred was going along with it, even though he'd been about to tell Batman everything just before.
"If you're quite warm and well, Master Tim, I think a good night's rest would do you good," Alfred said, "as it would the rest of us."
"Oh. Um, yes." Tim blinked and looked at the clock, which read 11:30 PM. "Sleep. Yeah."
"Great!" Jason chirped. He did a cartwheel over to Tim, channeling Dick Grayson, probably, and pulled him up, slinging his arm over Tim's shoulders. "C'mon, Timbers, we can have a sleepover in my room."
"Uh, sure."
A sleepover with Robin? Tim was equal parts confused and ecstatic. He followed Jason past a mystified Mr. Wayne, who wished them both goodnight, and up a small back staircase to the second floor.
It wasn't until Jason had showed them into his room and they got settled in bed that Tim finally asked, "Jason? Why didn't we tell Mr. Wayne that I know who you are? Isn't it kind of important?"
"Oh, Timmy Tim Timmers. Think about it. We only get to tell him that once."
"But-- oh. Ohhh."
"Exactly." Jason sounded smug. "Just you wait, Timbit. I have a feeling you and I are gonna be the holiest terrors this city ever saw."

GIW
part 4 of To Find Rest ao3
It had been three months. Three months! Since the kids had left and Babs could still not find anything on them. She couldn’t even find where they lived!
She had planted trackers on them, because… Well, she had done it, but it had proven useless. She had been able to track them to Wellsburg where the tracker stayed for approximately fifteen minutes before it went offline and hse hadn’t been able to get the signal back since.
She had looked into the towns around Wellsburg but the only one that was about an hour from there was Elmerton and the kids weren’t on any of their school’s records.
She’d tried looking into the kids themselves, but that had also proven unsuccessful. Nothing came up when she searched their names, not in any database. It didn’t even look like they had social media!
It had gotten to the point where she had asked Tim for help, but he hadn’t even been able to find anything. And now he was curious about why she was looking into a pair of kids. At least he had agreed not to tell Bruce.
Babs sighed, she didn’t understand why trying to find two random kids was so difficult. She needed to find them. The longer it took the more worried she became. What if something happened to them?
Her comm buzzed in her ear.
“Oracle.”
“What’s up, B?”
“I need you to look into some information on an organization I’ve come across. I discovered some men dressed in white trying to break into Wayne Enterprises. They were able to get away, but one of them left behind their badge. I need you to look up anything you can find on the GIW.”
“You got it, B.”
She’d do this, and then she’d keep looking for the kids. She just hoped they’d be safe for a little while longer.
—-
These stupid GIW were hard to find. She could only catch glimpses of the name in hidden governmental documents. She couldn’t even find what the acronym stood for! All she could find was that it was an organization that was created during Luthor’s term as president. That raised a lot of red flags, but she couldn’t do anything about it until she could locate one of their bases.
Hopefully, one of the agents would be spotted again so that they could be followed back to their headquarters or at least questioned.
The corner of her screen glitched. Babs frowned. What was— Her entire screen went dark.
She cursed. This wasn’t good. And then it got even worse as a messed flashed across her still dark screen.
‘STOP LOOKING’
Well shoot.
Then her computer started smoking and sparking before it started melting. She could only stare open mouthed as her computer and her entire set up melted into lumps of metal, glass, circuitry, and wires.
What. In. The. World. Just happened?
She reached up to her comm, but all she could hear was static. She took a deep breath before wheeling herself over to a side table that held her laptop. She worked quickly pulling up the program to reroute the comms through the laptop instead of her Oracle setup.
She winced as loud voices came through.
“What happened?”
“Can anyone hear me?”
“Hello?”
“Oracle!”
“Quiet!” she said and blessed silence fell over the comms. Unfortunately, it only lasted a moment.
“Oracle wha–”
“What is the mea–”
“Why did the comms–
“What’s happen–”
“Silence!” Batman said and the comms went silent once more.
“Oracle, what happened?”
“It will be easier to explain in person. Everyone who’s able should come to the Clocktower. Actually,” she paused, glancing at her melted setup. “We should probably head to the Batcave. The Clocktower might be compromised.”
“Do you think the Batcave is compromised?” Batman said his voice level.
“I don’t think so, but I haven’t had time to check, and I’ll need the Batcomputer to look into it.”
“Fine. Is everyone able to head to the Batcave? Robin and I are already on our way and I’ll have Agent A get Signal.”
“Spoiler and I are on our way.” Dick said.
“Heading there.” Cass said.
“I’ll be a few minutes, I need to break up this attempted robbery first.”
“Hood?” Babs asked.
“What do you need me for?” Jason grunted, followed by the sound of gunfire.
“I’m pretty sure everyone is going to want to know what happened, and I can’t be sure what’s been compromised until I check the Batcomputer.”
“Fine. I’ll be there in a few.'' Then he turned his comm off.
She sighed. “I’ll be there in a few as well.” She looked one more time at her melted set up and took a few pictures to show the bats, she wasn’t sure if the footage from the cameras in the Clocktower would still be viable, then she left.
It looked like the GIW were a bigger threat then she’d initially assumed.

Bruce’s grunts were like music to your ears as he thrust into you, the fat head of his cock bashing almost painfully into your cervix. His massive calloused hand was pressing down on the back of your head, forcing your face into the black silk pillowcase, drool running down your chin and eyes rolling back into your skull.
“Fucking take it. Take my cock.” He growled, his other hand hitching your hips up higher so he could drive himself even deeper within you. He didn’t care that you had already cum twice on his cock and three times on his tongue and fingers. Your husband had already spilled his hot cum all over your generous tits but he was still going.
Between a recent injury during patrol, issues at Wayne Enterprises, an increase in villainous activity and baby Thomas learning to walk, which was quickly followed by running, neither of you have had any time with each other. It had been a month since you had sex and it definitely wore you both down.
So now, with Damian at the Kents for the weekend, and Thomas in Alfred’s care for the day, you had been quickly pinned to the Alaska king and ravished.
The bed was now bare save for the pillow beneath your head and the two under your wide hips, keeping you propped upright as you went boneless. “Bruuuuuuuuuce.” You moaned, a less powerful orgasm washing over you, your pussy clenching down on your husband’s cock.
You shivered as his body slumped over yours, his face tucking into your neck as he shifted his arms to wrap around your thick waist, his hands resting on your plump tummy. “Perfect, my perfect girl.” Your pussy burned with the overstimulation but you still reached behind you and tugged on Bruce’s black hair, urging him to go faster, your voice failing you.
Bruce shifted his hips, angling his thrusts downwards. The knot in your stomach twisted tight and the breath knocked from your lungs as the underside of his dick rubbed deliciously against your g-spot. “God I missed this pussy.” He groaned into your ear, cock twitching wildly within you.
“Gonna make me cum.” His voice was gruff and dark, almost like when he went out on patrol. You attempted to roll your hips beneath him to match his thrusts but his assault on you was too powerful, your mind going completely blank as another orgasm built inside you.
“Hey dad, I- Holy Shit!!! What are you doing to my mother?!?!” Tim was standing frozen in the doorway, Bernard close behind him, face completely red and flushed as he desperately avoided eye contact with you. Bruce quickly caged you below him, trying to prevent the boys from seeing your naked body. “Out!” The door slammed shut and you heard the boys scramble away.
With a grumble, Bruce pulled out of you, making you whine. He sat back on his heels, wincing at your puffy lower lips. “Sorry love, guess I went a bit too hard.” His big hands rubbed your bruised ass cheeks but you just chuckled. “It’s fine my heart, just help me up, we should talk to the boys.”
Bruce pulled you up to his chest, lightly kissing your neck. He helped you off the bed and handed you one of his oversized hoodies for his days off and a pair of loose shorts before pulling the condom off his softening length and throwing it away and putting on his own clothes. Just as he was running a hand through his hair in an attempt to straighten it out, the door opened once more, a very angry Dick and Jason stood in the entryway, glaring daggers at their father.
“How dare you.” Jason hissed. “Defiling our mother like that. Shame on you.” He stroked your hair gently, cradling you to his large body. You stood there absolutely bewildered as Dick quickly followed his little brother, standing in front of his dad, staring him down. “In the middle of the day too?! When anyone could walk in?!”
Bruce threw his hands in the air in frustration. “She’s my wife! We’re going to have sex! How do you think Tommy got here.” Both boys gasped. “Our mother is a saint, how dare you accuse her of such a thing.”
“It’s a fact!” Bruce was clearly getting very annoyed at his two oldest sons and combined with the fact that he was still incredibly pent up, his face was steadily getting redder and redder as the vein in his forehead stood out even more. “No it is not! Everyone knows that Tommy was delivered by storks. I mean, that is what you told Damian.” Your head snapped up to look at the second Robin, eyes widening in shock as your husband suddenly went very quiet.
After you had gotten pregnant, Damian had quite a few questions as to how babies were made. And since you had given the sex talk to your other three boys, you left Bruce to do it himself. “Bruce. Tell me you didn’t.” He was avoiding eye contact. “I can neither confirm nor deny this.” “Jesus Christ.” Suddenly, you had a very bad tension headache, one that you got when any member of your family has done or was about to do something incredibly stupid.
“So big man, what room are you going to be sleeping in for the next month while ma decides if she wants to divorce you?” Dick seemed incredibly satisfied with himself for that. Jason had the smuggest look you had ever seen on his face as Bruce suddenly went very pale. “I’m just gonna, yeah.” And he turned and ran from the room, almost like he wasn’t Batman.
The two older boys high fived each other, obviously having been planning on sharing that secret when the time was right. You sighed and dug your fingertips into your temples, trying to relieve the pounding in your skull. All you wanted was a day full of fun sex with your husband, now you’ve go to deal with said husband, telling your second youngest where babies actually came from, and comforting your middle child and his boyfriend.
Turning your glare on the two Robins, you cleared your throat. “I better be getting the best Mother’s day present ever for this.” “Yeah of course mom.” “Don’t we always get you awesome gifts?” They spoke at the same time. You smiled fondly at them and reached up to cup their faces. “Oh baby birds, when did you get so big?”
Jason’s face went red and he looked away but Dick nuzzled into your palm like the little puppy he was. “Alright, let me go deal with Tim and then your father is getting a very stern talking to.” You grumbled, pulling your hands away in favour of stuffing them into the pocket of the hoodie you were wearing. You strode to the door but paused right before you left the room, looking back at the brothers.
“And boys.” “Yes ma?” “If your father and I ever get divorced, I’m marrying Selina.” Their shouts of protest carried throughout the house.

The Hearts of Gotham 4
Chapter 4 out of 7
Bruce makes the Justice League believe he has two hearts and is a manifestation of Gotham’s night to throw them off his secret identity, not trusting them. When the sound system breaks, he doesn’t come clean, but lies instead that he split into two to make Robin. From there it spirals as all the Robins make the lies grow and twist it in their own ways, until the truth comes out.
This fic is based on this post and inspired by Bouncing Baby Bat, or so the Justice League is led to believe... by EmpressGeek.
On AO3.

Warnings: Tim's self esteem issues

Chapter 4: How Tim Tied It All Together
When Tim becomes Robin, Batman is no longer who he used to be. He is still paranoid of course, but he also grief stricken, angry, yet withdrawn. A shell of the Batman he once was.
He doesn’t want to introduce Tim to the Justice League at first. Wants to just tear the whole thing down and yell that he doesn’t want to do this anymore. That he just lost his son. That he’s had enough. That it’s not funny anymore. That it was never funny to start with.
However, whenever he tries to say something. He can’t. The words get stuck in his throat and all he can picture is Jason’s face as he whispered: ‘Are we- Are we pranking the Justice League?’ And he just can’t.
Bruce knows he has to introduce Tim to them, so that they know who they’re calling should something happen to him out there. But he still drags his feet about how he wants to do this.
A part of him wants to say fuck it and just tell them that there’s a new kid and that he’s been lying, too tired to care. But another part of him knows that then there will be questions, about the other Robins, if they were just kids too. And he’ll have to sit there and explain to Clark and Diana that he let his kid get killed. That he wasn’t on time to save him.
So, he shuts that first part of himself up and briefs Tim on what the story is and why he is meeting the League and when.
When Tim hears, he know this is important. The Robins before him have met the League and it is part of a bigger cover towards them.
Tim’s young mind whirls quickly, finding it logical that Batman has this added layer between him and the League. They operate differently and he knows how dangerous the League can be, the contingencies that Batman has made should it be necessary. Having a small human link, is a weakness to be exploited, so shrouding it in myth, makes it harder to do that.
It’s smart and he won’t let Batman down.
He knows Jason’s death is still a very sore wound, that is not likely to heal soon – it’s the whole reason he’s here – and that there is a wedge now between Batman and Dick. So, he doesn’t ask for advice from either of them and looks to the footage of the meetings with the old Robins and the Justice League in his own time, studying their interactions to prepare himself.
Thus, there is a drag to his feet as he quietly follows Batman into the Watchtower for the first time, the shoes he’s wearing still feeling too big to ever fill.
They enter a big room with a table, around which all the Justice League members are sitting. A few start to greet Batman, but they quickly also start to greet him. Seeing a new Robin is no longer a novelty to them and they are ready to welcome this newcomer.
“Hello, you must be the new Robin,” Superman floats over to shake his hand. “I’m Superman, nice to meet you.”
“I am. It’s nice to meet you too,” Tim says, trying to shake Superman’s hand the way Dick did.
Diana is also there, shaking his hand as they exchange introductions. She comments: “If I may ask, your predecessor was Robin shorter than the one before him. What city called for a hero? I have not heard of a new name popping up recently.”
Batman’s jaw tenses as most look to him for answers now, having notices his change in demeanor when the second Robin was mentioned.
Tim knows from his observations of the tapes that it is Robin, who gives the answers, while Batman stands quietly. So, he softly speaks up: “The second Robin was taken by the wrong parts of Gotham.”
The heroes that stand around them pause, some turning pale. Diana gasps: “No. He- He can’t die, can he?”
“He can be lost,” Tim answers, watching how Batman’s hands clench, hoping he won’t be too mad for all he’s about to say. “Not all his pieces returned home. The city gives us shape and life, but we can also be taken by it.”
As he talks, he calls back on as much as what Jason said, since he is the one that solidified the lore of the Robins. He created the means to be interchanged. And Tim is going to do his favorite hero proud.
“When he became Robin, the moon was waxing. Now the moon is waning,” Tim says. “Gotham is getting dark now. The light is less big. I’m less big.”
He is actually pretty close to Jason’s age when he started, but he knows that he’s smaller than average. If he calculated right, he can pass for at least two years younger. It fits with the story he’s creating for his Robin, a lesser version of those before him. The Robin to a grimmer Batman and a less bright Gotham.
Everyone is now looking worried and that’s good. Tim wants the League to be a little bit worried, so that they’ll keep a closer eye on Batman. He needs everyone to keep him on the rails while he processes and this way Tim is subtly enlisting help.
However, he also memorized what Jason said about Batman changing and how that means something has happened. He doesn’t need them to worry so much that they’ll come into Gotham unannounced.
So, he gives them a smile, hoping it will be close to what the other Robins did. Unintentionally, it’s as creepy as Dick’s smile had been.
“Don’t worry,” he says, maybe a bit on the nose, but, oh well, he doesn’t do improv theater. “The night is still the same, the light is just less, so there is more darkness to make up Batman. He’s working on it. We both are. We’ll get used to our way of being Batman and Robin as we are now.”
That is apparently Batman’s limit.
A hand comes down on Tim’s shoulder, it’s heavy, but Tim doesn’t react. He is used to Batman’s more brisk forms of connection, how he’s grown more distant than how he was with Jason. Tim gets it, he’s not his son, just a placeholder.
“Let’s go to the Cave, Robin,” Batman says and he doesn’t crack on the name. Progress. “They’ve met you now.”
“Oh, don’t go yet, Batman,” Flash tries to go for a little more lighthearted as he attempts to get Batman to stay. They likely all noticed how he’s been around less.
Diana nods, saying gently: “Yes, there is no need to hurry home.”
Batman looks like he might be convinced, but then J’onn adds: “We can help you look out for Robin,” and that is the wrong thing to say, Tim knows it as he hears it.
Had Batman gotten help from the Justice League, Jason could have lived. Had Batman thought to call out, Tim might not be standing here.
“No, Gotham needs us,” he tells them instead and a part of Tim hopes that there is an Arkham outbreak so that Batman can punch out a little more of his grief and their cover will be strengthened more.
It’s the only time, Tim meets the Justice League as Robin. He never trains with them, never convinces Batman to take him with him to the Watchtower again. He meets them, because it is necessary and never again until he’s Red Robin.
As Red Robin, Tim truly grows into the lore that they’re creating, managing to find ways to use it to his advantage.
By then the Robin mantle has ping ponged around and Tim has mourned how he’s been forced to give up being Robin. It wasn’t easy, but it’s what has to be done and he’s always done it. Besides, he quite likes his mantle as Red Robin now.
And he doesn’t mind tricking his teammates either. Out of all of them, he’s the one that has the worst of B’s paranoia, so having this makes him feel more in control about what they do and don’t know about him. It’s a safety measure.
He is also gleeful to discover that he can use it to get his way and Dick can’t get on his case about it, because then he’ll give the whole thing away.
“Don’t worry,” he tells them when they look at him with concern. “My body doesn’t react the same as yours to caffeine, this is totally safe.”
“It’ll be safer for me to go alone,” he lies another time. “As a manifestation, it’s less likely that this demon thing will kill me. It’ll be worse if you’re there.” Like he doesn’t just think they’re all shit negotiators and he’s better off without them in the background to ruin things.
Little things that make leading his team easier for him. Making so he doesn’t have to explain himself or apologize for his bad habits. It’s quite a nice change of pace and he doesn’t mind in the slightest.
As a little bit of pettiness to the demon spawn that has taken his spot after Steph, he tells those that ask that one Robin wasn’t enough anymore for the beast that is Gotham. In a dire hour of need, he had handed over in some Robin parts, but not all, he had evolved and a new one had grown. The two of them having to run around to balance Gotham again.
It can’t be further from the truth, they don’t work together well and while Gotham is still a dark entity, two Robins can nearly be considered overkill. Especially when you know of all the other heroes that run around, still in the shadows.
However, he doesn’t care about the truth much. Let everyone think that he is the evolved Robin, that he grew, that he still matters to Gotham. Let them think that Damian is the Robin, who couldn’t do it by himself, who needed an extra hand.
Tim is used to twisting the narrative until he makes sense, until no one wonders how he is the one who made it here. He has always had big shoes to fill, let someone else carry that burden for a change.
~~
A/N:
Okay, promise only happy vibes again after this one, but Tim is just a bit of a sad character, especially when he just became Robin and when he had to hand over the mantle again (though the latter has been all Robins), so it was a little difficult to make it happy. I tried, didn’t work out.

Mending a Family 31/?
Prev | Next
Dick walked through the cemetery holding a bouquet. He stopped in front of a grave. An angel looked over an empty coffin.
It felt wrong to visit Jason’s grave when he was still alive, but it was the only way he had to talk to his younger brother now. He put the bouquet down and then sat down. Dick didn’t really know what to do now. He didn’t even know why he had come to the grave in the first place.
Was it to ask for forgiveness? To ask why?
“I’m in therapy now.”
Silence. Did he expect anything else? Maybe.
“I know Roy wasn’t telling me to go to therapy out of the goodness of his heart, but…I needed to do it, I guess. Dinah’s a good therapist. She cuts through the bullshit and has no problem calling me out on my crap.”
The wind blew through the grass.
“I’m trying to get Bruce to go, too. It’s going as well as you can imagine.”
The angel stared at Dick, mocking him.
“Me and Tim take turns patrolling Crime Alley. It’s not too bad, but we already see cracks in your absence.”
At first, Red Hood’s lieutenants had taken over after Jason’s disappearance, and things had stayed more or less the same. However, the longer Red Hood was away from Crime Alley, the more criminals pushed boundaries, and the more the crime rate increased. Thankfully, having at least two Bats visit the place kept it from returning to its pre-Red Hood days.
They knew that the crime rate would keep increasing, but between Nightwing and Red Robin, they hoped it wouldn’t get too bad.
Bruce still refused to enter Crime Alley. Dick didn’t think it was only because of his parents.
“I’m sorry, Little Wing. If we had tried to integrate you into the family, you might still be here. I shouldn’t have kept Mar’i’s existence from you. Me and Bruce should’ve done better in welcoming you into the family.”
Too late now, he thought.
Dick and Bruce had thought that Jason would always be around. They thought they had time to bring Jason back into the fold. Now, he was gone in the wind. God only knew where he was. Well, God and Roy. He had a (possible) kid with him, and Dick couldn’t blame Jason for keeping the boy away from the family when Dick had done the same to Jason with Mar’i.
Well, not unless he wanted to be a hypocrite.
What else is new, his brain whispered.
Dick sighed and got up, dusting the dirt from his pants. He walked up to the angel and put his hand on it.
“I hope you’re happy and safe. Wherever you are, Little Wing.”
Thousands of miles away, while he was working on his car, Jason felt a chill go down his spine.
“Someone is walking on my grave,” he whispered. He blinked. How did he know that? Suddenly, the scent of flowers reached his nose. He looked around and saw nothing but oily rags and parts of cars scattered all over the place.
Jason went back to working on his car, a feeling of uneasiness filling him.
Back in Gotham, Dick wore his Nightwing suit and patrolled Crime Alley that night. He stopped a few muggings. He helped a woman return home after being followed and stopped a drug dealer from selling to a few kids.
One of Jason’s major rules was not selling to kids. The cracks were widening in Crime Alley with Red Hood’s absence.
Bruce, Tim, and Dick knew that Jason had been able to enforce these rules because a. he wasn’t affiliated with the Bats, b. he knew Crime Alley inside and out, and c. the people had accepted him.
They still didn’t trust Batman and the birds that flew with them. Not really.
Nightwing sat on top of a building overlooking Crime Alley. Thankfully, it had quieted down.
He tensed when he heard someone beside him before he noticed it was Black Bat. He relaxed a bit, still overlooking Crime Alley.
They sat in silence, letting the stillness of the area overcome them.
“Tell me about him,” she said suddenly.
Dick thought about it for a moment. Where would he even start?
“He loves reading. He loves the classics; his favorite is Pride and Prejudice.”
Black Bat cocked her head to the side, “Really? I never would’ve pegged him as a bookworm.”
 Dick nodded.
“Yeah, he was obsessed with reading. When he was younger, he wouldn’t go on patrol unless he had finished his schoolwork, the nerd. He wanted to go to college before—you know, before that happened.”
That was the crux of the matter: how different would things have been if Jason had never died?
Would he have graduated by now? Jason was brilliant, and Dick had no issues in believing that his bookworm of a brother would’ve graduated sooner than most. Would he be getting his master’s by now? Would he have a girlfriend? A boyfriend? Would the child he was with be surrounded by aunts and uncles? By his cousin? Well, there was no point in thinking ‘what ifs’ now. It was too late for that.
He felt arms around him.
“He’ll come back. I know.”
Dick tried to smile.
They didn’t know that, though, did they?
Jason was mostly out of it the rest of the day. He felt something was missing.
No, he knew what was missing. His family back in Gotham. He could survive, even thrive, with just Danny, Ellie, and Jazz. With Roy and Raven. But, a part of him, the child in him, missed his dad and older brother. He missed the possible relationship he could’ve had with Bruce’s other children, his other siblings if he hadn’t fucked up so badly.
He felt arms around him. Danny was looking at him with worry in his eyes. Even Jazz and Ellie were staring at him.
“What’s wrong, daddy?”
Looking into his son’s blue eyes, Jason knew he could never return to Gotham. They would take Danny away from him. Living away from his family was hard, but he wouldn’t survive if Danny were taken from him.
“Nothing, lad, daddy was just feeling a bit nostalgic.”
He looked into Danny’s eyes, “But I’m okay, now, chum. Daddy is okay now.”
Jason refused to have his son and small family taken from him.

Just A Thought:
Miguel O'Hara - but Bruce Wayne
Miguel O'Hara as Batman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miguel being a billionaire whose left the sole caretaker of his younger brother Gabriel when his parents are gunned down after a late-night play.
Left with the fortune and legacy of Alchemax, Miguel falls into dispair - and comes across a classified operation conducted by his father, a super potent and super addictive drug.
Rapture.
Not knowing, Miguel tries it once, and he finds himself hooked.
Over months the situation worsens. Gabriel gets worried about his older brother.
In search of answers, Gabriel discovers the truth - the source of Raptures creation. Their father having developed a hard-to-replicate super drug as a way to control Nueva Gotham's underground drug trade, funding Alchemax with laundered money.
Gabriel almost became a whistleblower, leaking the news to the press - but instead, he was killed by gunmen funded by Alchemax.
After Gabriel's death, Rapture floods Neuva Gotham's streets.
In less than a week, addiction skyrockets across the city.
Horrified at the discovery and the loss of his brother, Miguel seeks out a way to reverse his addiction - and undo the unspeakable corruption caused by his father.
Instead, his own invention does more harm than good - turning him into the The Spider-Man.
He fights crime in his usual blue and red suit except the blue is black and he has a cape all the time now
Tumblr media
The Spider-man fights crime by being a 'bug on the wall', undermining and brutalizing Nueva Gotham's underworld, trying to find the people who leaked Rapture to the streets - and ordered the murder of his brother.
FOLLOW-UP IDEA:
SpiderKids as Robins!!!!
Pavitr being Dick Grayson/Future Nightwing - the perfect and acrobatic star child. Bright and optimistic despite The Horrors. Loves his girlfriend.
Hobie being Jason Todd - the Robin Miguel first meets while the kids is stealing his tires. The kid who trashes the O'Hara Manor, gets a little too excited about kicking ass and talking back and beating up cops.
Killed by The Goblin aka Joker + Green Goblin together - Revived - HATES Miguel now.
Goes by Spiked Hood
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gwen being Tim Drake - the Robin that stays up until 3am. More into techie stuff. Close with Miguel but no where near the way he is with Pavitr. But she loves her siblings and half the time feels like the only Sane one.
BONUS IDEA!!!!
GABRIELLA AS DAMIAN WAYNE!!!! Xina being Thalia (minus the weird ummm uncomfy origins of Damian)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabbie being Miguel's one blood child who he didn't raise from birth but met later. But he trains and raises her anyway. She's a natural at it. A bit ruthless considering the whole, raised by assassins thing though.
But she ADORES her older siblings though she'd never admit it. She hangs with her older brother Pavitr ALL THE TIME, especially after Pavitr becomes NightWing in Mumblud Haven (or Bludbai if you'd like)
She thinks Hobie is so cool, especially when he comes around with Starfire and Red Arrow (aka DiscoSpider Diane and Captain Anarchy Karl Morningdew). The three of them calling themselves Spiked Hood and the Outlaws - in reference to Hobie's spiked and hooded outfit.
Since Pavitr lives in Bludbai and Hobie dislikes Miguel - Gwen and Gabriella are the only ones who still live in the manor with Miguel and his e-maid Lyla - who is now full sized like Alfred, but still AI.
There's a spider signal in the sky.
J.Jonah is Commissioner Gordon. And every time he sees Miguel he's talking shit about vigilantes despite having to work with him cause Nueva Gotham is such a shit hole.
Miguel is still tired as hell because he's on patrol and gets a call from Lyla talking about how Hobie set fire to the manor curtains again 'but on purpose this time'
Do you see it do you see my vision are you picking up what I'm putting down

MEMES!!!
Tumblr media
WRITTEN IN THE STARS, BEFORE WE WERE EVEN BORN - betrothal au :
Light and Time met at the beginning of existence and made a deal. To make sure the other wouldn't back out and take everything, they invested in a collateral. Two of their kin to be born, will be wed. Betrothal contracts were not what Duke or Danny wanted for breakfast.
MEMES!!!

"YOU TAUNT ME, I CHASE YOU" "YOU CATCH ME, THEN LET ME GO" THEY DO IT AGAIN THE NEXT DAY - bat x cat :
Catwoman has a Kitten following her around, and that Kitten just so happens to like messing around with Batman's Sunshine Birdy. No Duke isn't a furry, Tim shut the fuck up you still haven't confessed to Kon! He and Bruce don't have the same type! Besides, the new kid Danny is much prettier than Selina's nephew. Tucker and Sam say Danny has a "vigilantes who can beat his ass" thing, which is stupid cause it's more of a "people who can beat his ass" thing. Cause like Duke Thomas from Algebra is hot.

MESMERIZED BY A BANSHEE'S SCREAMS - rockstar au :
Ember, Johnny, and Danny decided to fuck off to Gotham and start a punk-rock band. The new band that Dax found is fucking amazing, but Duke's eyes keep drifting to the pretty bassist.
No Memes, but there's a Spotify playlist on the post!

RASBERRY & LEMON DELIGHTS - countryboy!danny x emopunk!duke :
Duke and Damian go to the Kents for the summer, just for fun. The cute boy from the farm on the edge of town is definitely making the summer less lonely and more fun, they get to make sweets together. Danny is taking a gap year and has been staying with his Aunt Alicia since last summer. Things are boring until their closets neighbors the Kents get visitors. Hanging out with the pretty punk boy is making farm life fun.

THE CORPSE GROOM - corpse bride au :
Duke makes the mistake of playfully preforming wedding vows while playing pretend, and just so happens to put one of his rings on a branch that is not a branch. Now he's stuck in the underworld with a clingy new husband who insists that they're made for each other. TW: KIDNAPPING, NON-CON TOUCHING, OBSESSIVE BEHAVIOR, THREATS ON ONES LIFE - when you think about it the Corpse Bride is a fucked up story, this Au doesn't get anywhere near the topic of sex or anything sexual, but Danny is mentioned and stated to be overly touchy with Duke when he doesn't want it

What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas - drunk vegas wedding :
It's completely on accident when they wake up in each other's arms thinking they're married. Danny was just so nice to get that creep away from Duke. Duke was happy to have a new friend to hang out with. Neither where all there during the wedding. The dress and suit are very pretty though. TW: DUBIOUS-CONSENT - both Duke & Danny where kinda drunk when they have sex, even though I didn't right the scene it's literally stated as INSERT SEX SCENE

"LOVE ME, LOVE ME, LOVE ME, LOV~" - love pollen :
The Everlasting Trio is visiting Gotham for a nature convention/meet up thing. A villain just so happens to attack and Poison Ivy takes great offense to them attack the few humans who care. During the scuffle Danny gets hit with a boat load of experimental pollen Ivy was making. Signal just so happens to be the hero who finds him among the rumble. Also being the first person Danny lays eyes on.

DANI DOESN'T HAVE TO WORRY BUT ACCIDENTLY CALLING MR.THOMAS DAD ANYMORE - teacher x single parent :
When Danny & Ellie where traveling around the world, Dani makes the mistake of accidently drinking some Lazarus water. With his daughter rapidly de-aging to a six-year old, Danny runs and finds his sister. Jazz suggests getting Ellie enrolled in a night school, and for Danny to get a job gooning for a bit. It's a plus that Mr.Thomas isn't all that hard on the eyes.

I WANNA BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU, NEVER FEELS LIKE I AM - popular boy!duke x loner new kid!danny :
The portal to the Ghost Zone has finally closed and The Fenton's decided that it's better for them to just start anew and move to Gotham. Danny's never been the new kid, but he can be the weird loner. People have always adored Duke because of the way he shine like no other, and Gothamites had never experienced that before. Duke never got a big head about it, his mother never let that happen. But that doesn't mean he didn't become the most popular boy where ever he went.
